A
With so many festivals taking place in the UK, it’s getting harder every year to decide which ones to go to—and more importantly, which ones you can actually afford.
Parklife—Heaton Park, Manchester
Dates: 10th—11th June
Headliners: The 1975, Skrillex and Aitch
Cost: From 149.50 (weekend ticket), from 84.50 (one-day ticket)
Manchester’s favourite music festival is, unsurprisingly, a favourite with the city’s large student population. The weekend usually features a top-drawer line-up with loads of acts. You can’t camp at Parklife, so you also have to factor in accommodation in Manchester.
Latitude—Henham Park, Southwold
Dates: 20th—23rd July
Headliners: Pulp, Paolo Nutini and George Ezra
Cost: 286.45 (weekend ticket with standard camping), from 90.75 (one-day ticket)
Latitude is one of the pricier festivals out there, but the lineup normally justifies (证明……正确) the dollar. The festival will have big artists alongside its main headliners. It’s a great all-rounder festival, where you can get back to nature by camping and lake swimming before dancing to DJs until the early hours.
Wireless—Finsbury Park, London
Dates: 7th—9th July
Headliners: Playboi Carti, Travis Scott and 50 Cent
Cost: From 248.39 (weekend ticket), from 88 (one-day ticket)
We’re still a bit upset with Wireless for cancelling the festival’s Birmingham stop, making it a London-only event. Wireless hosts the sounds of grime, hip-hop, rap and R&B in North London’s Finsbury Park. Wireless isn’t a camping festival, so you’ll have to factor in the price of London accommodation for this one.
Victorious—Southsea Seafront, Portsmouth
Dates: 25th—27th August
Headliners: Jamiroquai, Kasabian and Ben Howard
Cost: 180 (weekend ticket with camping), 60 (one-day ticket)
Although it has an excellent line-up of big names, this is still a relatively little-known festival. Since there are so many big acts, it’s also a pretty cost-effective option too. Best of all, the Castle Stage is situated in front of the stunning Southsea Castle, making this one of the most picturesque festivals around.
( )21.What do Parklife and Wireless have in common
A.They are for students. B.They are in London.
C.They don’t offer campsites. D.They are in July.
( )22.Where can the visitors swim in a lake
A.Heaton Park. B.Henham Park. C.Finsbury Park. D.Southsea Seafront.
( )23.Which of the following festival s begins the latest
A.Parklife. B.Latitude. C.Wireless. D.Victorious.

According to the Houston Health Department, for nearly one-quarter of children living in Houston, Texas, the choice to eat healthily doesn’t exist. Annie Zhu was shocked to find out so many children in Houston lived in food deserts—areas without access to fresh food. She was also shocked to see how much fresh food supermarkets discard (丢弃) every day. So she and her twin sister Shirley went to work.
First, they partnered with the Houston Health Department to give out food at community centres. With the help of Second Servings, they collected surplus food from grocery stores and began organizing monthly markets. They even connected with human service agencies to provide help beyond food. Lastly, they developed a simple app that tells people when and where the markets are. Since the food is fresh, it needs to be picked up right away, so they developed the text and messaging app Fresh Hub.
Each month, Fresh Hub organizes high schoolers who wear green shirts and go to work setting up stands of fresh produce, baked goods and packaged meats. The Zhu sisters and the green dream team have given out over 1,500 pounds of food. And while families are collecting food, volunteers are entertaining kids with art projects that teach healthy eating.
At the end of the day, Annie says the two are happy to be making a difference. “Frustration (沮丧) over the unfair circumstances built into society led us to meet amazing people,” says Annie. “I know I’m not alone on this journey to help the underserved—and I know our journey has only just begun!”

Self-confidence is an important quality to develop in your kid. It is associated with better grades, more satisfying personal relationships, better decision making, and greater self-control. Self-confidence is obtained from skills and competencies, experiences, treatment by others and the nature and frequency (频率) of successes and failures. But, self-confidence is also affected by something as simple as how your kids carry themselves as they go about their daily lives. If kids behave more self-confidently, they feel more self-confident. Here are some direct instructions parents can give their kids to help them make it.
To start with, have your kids stand tall and straight with their shoulders back. This is particularly important for teenage girls. It is not unusual for girls to draw their shoulders inward as a way of avoiding dealing with the changes of their bodies. They will need help balancing being confident in their bodies.
Self-confident people stand and walk with their hands out and to the side of the body. Some research has provided evidence that placing your hands on your hips (髋部) results in greater decisiveness in business situations. This is sometimes referred to as the super hero stance. Before your kids are about to engage in an activity where self-confidence is required, have them stand like a super hero with their heads held high, their eyes focused on the horizon and their hands on their hips. It can feel kind of silly but will make a difference in their attitude and behaviour.
Finally, your kids need to be aware of how they actually walk. Self-confident people walk with big steps. They take solid steps with their head up, looking where they are going and making direct eye contact with people they encounter.
With a little time and some direct instruction, you can help your teen appear more self-confident which will actually help them feel more self-confident. You are the perfect person for them to practise on. One thing though. It is probably better to address this in private.
( )28.What will kids fail to gain with more self-confidence
A.Better marks on the exam. B.Better relationship with others.
C.Greater self-control. D.The fastest decision making.
( )29.What does the underlined word “It” in paragraph 3 refer to
A.Standing like a super hero. B.Engaging in an activity.
C.Making eyes focused on a certain thing. D.Holding heads high.
( )30.What can we know from paragraphs 2—4
A.Teen girls always stand tall and straight with their shoulders back.
B.Self-confident persons aren’t afraid of straight eye contact.
C.It’s impolite to put your hands on your hips when you talk with others.
D.You should mind your steps when you walk, being careful and slow.
( )31.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.Self-confidence and Body Language
B.Self-confidence and Teen Girls
C.Self-confidence and Different Activities

Mickey Mouse welcomed visitors to his new home in China on June 16, 2016 as Disney opened its first theme park in the mainland.
The park, located in the city of Shanghai, opened with fireworks.
Joe Schott, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort (度假胜地), said, “I can promise you that there is still so much left to be revealed, and I cannot wait to share it all with you in the months and years to come.”
Tens of thousands streamed into Shanghai Disneyland for its debut (问世), an event that was nearly two decades in the making. The $5.5 billion resort covers 963 acres, but Disney has already begun expansion.
Company officials said they tried to reflect Chinese preferences in the new park.
“We didn’t build Disneyland in China, we built China’s Disneyland,” said Bob Iger, Disney’s chairman.
There’s a traditional Chinese tea house featuring local food. The Lion King performed in Mandarin for the first time, features the Monkey King and characters dressed in Chinese opera garb (服装) to appeal to an Asian audience.
In the castle, guests not only walk through, as they do in other Disney parks, they can also eat and shop. When it was discovered that Chinese people didn’t have a favourite Disney princess, the company decided that the castle would feature all the princesses. Parks in California and France are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
“The visitors can learn the princesses over time, and this gives them an opportunity to have an introduction to all of the princess stories,” said executive producer Ali Rubinstein.
However, China’s Disneyland sometimes is not closely related to China. Disney’s only animated film based on a Chinese story, Mulan, which tells the tale of a Chinese warrior woman, got neither its own ride nor stage show. The character appears only as a statue and a float in the parade.
( )32.What’s Joe Schott’s attitude to Shanghai Disney Resort
A.Disappointed. B.Concerned. C.Doubtful. D.Confident.
( )33.What can be learned from what Bob said in paragraph 6
A.They build the theme park in China.
B.The theme park belongs to China.
C.The theme park has Chinese elements.
D.The theme park has a long Chinese history.
( )34.Why does China’s Disneyland have all kinds of princesses
A.Chinese people have no certain favourite Disney princess.
B.Chinese people don’t know any princess characters in Disney movies.
C.Chinese people believe “the more, the better”.
D.Parks in other countries are based on the Sleeping Beauty story.
( )35.What is the purpose of giving the Mulan example
A.To show the Chinese character of Disneyland.
B.To show Mulan is an important part of Chinese culture.
C.To show China’s Disneyland has not reflected enough Chinese culture.
D.To show Disneyland has too few Chinese character films.

How to Turn Your Dreams into a Reality
Do you have dreams, visions or plans about things you’d love to have or achieve Of course you do! We all do. Unfortunately, dreaming is the easy part. 36 The good news is that there are proven techniques that can get you from where you are to where you want to be. Follow this process to bring your dreams to fruition (实现):
Turn your dream into a goal.
When you have a goal, you have a true target. For a greater chance of success, your plan should have a deadline and it must be measurable. 37 Give yourself the gift of setting a deadline and things will start to happen. Make your goal as desirable as possible without being unrealistic. If you feel that your goal is unreasonable, it’s much more difficult to encourage yourself to actually pursue it.
Prioritize (优先化) your goal daily.
38 You give instructions to your brain thousands of times a day. Let your mind know that your goal is something more important than “I feel like eating a ham sandwich” or “I need to stop at the grocery store on the way home”.
39
Difficult goals can rarely be achieved alone; you’re likely to need some help and guidance. Look at the list you have made and see what you already have in your life that could help you on your path.
Track your progress.
Measure your progress each day. Use old fashioned paper and pencil or take advantage of the latest smartphone app. 40 You can only adjust your approach if you know how you’re doing. Consider making a chart if that’s applicable to your goal.
A.Classify (将……分类) your available resources.
B.Make a list of negative associations.
C.Read and write your goal each day.
D.Turning those dreams into a reality is the challenge.
E.Tracking is critical to making continued progress.
F.It has been said that dreams are goals without a deadline.
G.So make a list of all the negative stuff that slip into your mind.

In class, I am sitting next to Mareena. We both have a good laugh. And when we laugh, it’s not small laughs. It’s more like big hair, we twist (扭曲) in laughter on our chairs and we end up under the table so much we are folded (折叠) in two. Sometimes, too, she annoys me a bit, especially when she uses my eraser or my pink pen that writes magic words. But best friends always fight a bit, that’s normal, Mum often tells me.
One morning, I found myself alone at my table. Mareena was ill. I found the day long, but I still laughed a bit. Because when Baptiste meant to say Madagascar (马达加斯加岛), he mistakenly said Madame Gaskal.
The next day, when I saw that Mareena was still away, I asked Mum if I could go to see her at her place. I wanted to bring her homework, but also make her laugh a little, so that she would feel better. Mum made a funny face and told me it was better to wait a few days. I thought maybe Mareena had a contagious (传染性的) disease. But still, it bothered me not to see my best friend. So I asked again. This time mum sat down with me on my bed and held my hands very tight. I realized that something was wrong.
Mum explained to me that Mareena was going to have to stay in the hospital for a while, because of an illness that I didn’t understand. Well, yes, what I understood was that my best friend wasn’t going to be back to school for a long time, and that we wouldn’t be laughing like whales anytime soon because of stupid things.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
I still asked to go to see Mareena once at the hospital.
Mareena eventually recovered.

根据第二个音乐节介绍中的“It’s a great all-rounder festival, where you can get back to nature by camping and lake swimming before dancing to DJs until the early hours.”
根据第一段第二句“Annie Zhu was shocked to find out so many children in Houston lived in food deserts—areas without access to fresh food.”
根据第一段倒数第二句“She was also shocked to see how much fresh food supermarkets discard every day.”
根据第一段中“Self-confidence is an important quality to develop in your kid. It is associated with better grades, more satisfying personal relationships, better decision making, and greater self-control.”
根据第三段可知,当孩子们参加活动需要自信的时候,我们需要让他们“stand like a super hero with their heads held high, their eyes focused on the horizon and their hands on their hips (像超人一样站着,仰起头,平视前方,双手叉腰)”。
根据第四段“Self-confident people walk with big steps.”

根据“I can promise you that there is still so much left to be revealed”可知,Joe Schott的态度是充满信心的。
根据文中“When it was discovered that Chinese people didn’t have a favourite Disney princess, the company decided that the castle would feature all the princesses.”
36.D 根据上文“Unfortunately, dreaming is the easy part. (不幸的是,有梦想是一件轻松的事情)”可知下文应该是表转折含义的句子,D项的challenge“挑战”与easy是相反的意思,故选择D项“把梦想变为现实才是挑战”。
37.F 根据下文“Give yourself the gift of setting a deadline and things will start to happen. (给你自己设定一个梦想实现的截止日期,然后事情就会逐渐开始进行)”可知F项的“dreams are goals without a deadline (梦想是没有截止期限的目标)”与其相呼应,同时和本段的标题“Turn your dream into a goal. (把你的梦想变成一个目标)”相一致。
38.C 根据标题“Prioritize your goal daily (把你每天的目标最优化)”可知和C项的“读出并写下你每天的目标”相一致。
39.A 根据本段最后一句“Look at the list you made and see what you already have in your life that could help you on your path.”
40.E 根据标题“Track your progress.”

A Friendly Basketball Game
In order to enrich students’ campus life, and strengthen the friendship between two schools, a friendly basketball game was held between the visiting U. S. Northfield Team and ours on the playground at 4: 00p. m. last Sunday afternoon.
On the field, the students from two schools were active and committed. The cheerleaders off the field shouted cheers for them! After fierce competition our team won the game at last.
This friendly game was of great significance. It not only showed students’ wonderful basketball skills, but also improved the friendship and understanding of each other.
第二节
One possible version:
I still asked to go to see Mareena once at the hospital. I was a little scared before seeing her again, but finally, I found that she did not look that bad. We laughed like before, even the doctors started to tell us jokes. There was even a time when I completely forgot that I was in the hospital, and that my best friend was sick. And then when leaving, Mareena took out an elephant-shaped blanket and handed it to me, saying, “Here, take my elephant. If you want to talk to me, you just have to talk to him, and he will answer you as if I were answering you.”
Mareena eventually recovered. It took several months, but she came back to school. Mum finally told me the name of the disease that Mareena had had. Just saying it, I swear, it makes you feverish. Since then, we have resumed our laughter games, and when we argue, I immediately think back to this long period when she was not there and immediately, we become friends again.

M/W: My Uncle Meyer has done many great things in his life. He has taught history for the past 45 years. He encouraged many young people to love history. Many of them were thankful for his help, and kept in touch with him by writing letters and sending emails. Another great thing is that he has always been a great person outside the classroom. When we were children, he took us to the library on Saturdays and the museum on Sundays. He also gave money to support museums. A third great thing is that he never stops learning. He is 68 now, but he is learning Chinese. He is going to travel to China next year. I have learned a lot from my uncle, and he is always my role model.
