Step 1:Warming up and lead-in
1.Review the grammar they have learnt.
(1)Show some pictures of big numbers to the students.

(2)Look at the pictures and say the numbers.
2.Review the words,
Step 2:Pre-reading
1.Ask them:
T:Where do you live
S:I live in the city/countryside.
2.Work in pairs.First read the words in the box.

3.Then use the words to answer the questions.

(2)What are the problems of big cities
4.Share their answers with the class.
Step 3:Reading
1.Listen to the passage and check their answers to Activity 1.
2.Read the passage and answer the questions.
(1)Where did people live after they moved to cities
(2)When did the small local school in Parkville close down
3.Get the class to read the passage again,but this time read it more slowly,then underline the difficult points.
4.After the students are familiar with the passage,ask them to read the passage after the tape.Then they can read by themselves.
Step 4:Explain
1.The teacher explains some key expressions and grammar points.
2.Let students read and master them.
Step 5:Homework
1.Read the words and the passage frequently.
