期末复习之阅读理解20篇
(22-23七年级下·广东广州·期末)My family and I never talked about school as the ticket to a future. I was in the classrooms, but I wasn’t there to learn to write, read or even speak. When it was my turn to read, I wanted to hide. I was 13 years old, but I already hated being who I was.
I had an English teacher, Mr. Creech, who knew I couldn’t read. In one of my first lessons the teacher said that anyone who had a reading age below six had to stand up. I felt so embarrassed. But at the same time, it made me realize that I needed to change the situation. I was determined it wouldn’t happen again. Later that day, Mr. Creech encouraged me and promised he would try his best to help me learn to read. From then on, I never gave up practicing reading.
Now I was 41 years old. One day, I planned to fly back to Texas to visit my friends and family. On my way from the airport, I saw Mr. Creech buying himself a drink. I rushed over and reached into my pocket to pay for him. “Do I know you ” he asked. “Yes, sir, you do know me,” I answered excitedly. “My name is Anthony Hamilton. You taught me English.” The look on his face told me that he remembered the boy he’d once encouraged.
“I’m so glad I had a chance to see you,” I said. “And Mr. Creech, I have great news to share.” I told him I had learned to read. But that wasn’t all. I had become a published author and an active speaker. “The next time you get another Anthony Hamilton in your classroom, please encourage him to read as well,” I added.
The experts say what once worried me has a name: dyslexia (诵读困难症). But I can tell you it was a lack of desire for education.

(22-23七年级下·广东广州·期末)All around the world, there are small changes taking place. At the side of roads, behind school playgrounds and on all kinds of unloved pieces of land across towns and cities, tiny forests barely the size of tennis courts are appearing, making a great place for both wildlife and local people who may not normally have easy access to nature. This is the Tiny Forest movement, which aims to prove that the best things in life really do come in small packages.
Tiny forests were first mentioned as a concept in the 1970s by Dr Miyawaki, a Japanese botanist. As he went on to share his concept with others, the idea soon took off in India and other countries before eventually reaching Europe, where it became popular in places like France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
So how does it work Louise Hartley, who is leading the Tiny Forest project in the UK, explains that the process begins by identifying areas in which a tiny forest could have the biggest influence. “We focus on urban areas where access to nature is often not that easy”, says Hartley. “We see it as a chance to try to break the growing disconnect between people and nature.”
In a Tiny Forest, there must be a minimum of 600 trees, and the trees are planted much closer together and without chemicals or fertilisers (肥料). There are usually around 30 different kinds of all-native tree species. This variety, coupled with the fact that tiny forests grow up to ten times faster than standard forests, means they attract a rich abundance of wildlife. It’s also thought that these places could help reduce the risk of flooding, remove carbon from the atmosphere and fight climate change, as well as improving the mental health of those living locally.

①Scientists have found that plants can make sounds.
②A scientist Lily Hadany and her team recorded(录制) tomato plants at different times. It showed that the plants made ultrasonic(超声波)sounds. Humans could only hear them with the help of a computer. They were noises like clicking(咔哒声)sounds.
③As the scientists studied the sounds, they began to find some interesting facts. Plants made different sounds at different times. They hardly clicked when they had enough water, but as the earth got drier, they clicked more and more. Scientists also found that plants made sounds when they got hurt. When scientists cut off a leaf from the plants, the plants also clicked more. But the clicking wasn’t the same as when the plants needed water.
④Some scientists trained a computer AI system to identify the different kinds of clicking sounds. It was able to find the difference between plants that needed water and plants with cuts. It means that one day we may be able to use these sounds to figure out when it is in difficult time, and what problem it is having. That could be very
helpful to farmers.

(21-22七年级下·广东广州·期末)It’s natural for people to talk with each other in words. Can other living things too What about animals The answer is surprisingly “Yes”. Some animals can use sounds and body movements to talk, and some animals can even speak words! According to the news on the New York Times, a 22-year-old elephant in South Korea could “talk”, that is, he picked up some words from his human caretakers.
And pet dogs or cats can, too. A quick search on the Internet will give you a lot of short videos of dogs saying “hello”, “I love you”, and even “I want my mommy.”
Can trees talk too Yes—but not in words. It may sound strange, but some trees really try to talk with each other in other ways. Willows(柳树)are the best-known of these trees. When insects begin biting a willow, the tree sends out a special smell a once. This smell tells the other willows that dangerous insects are coming near. All of them quickly make a chemical in their leaves. This chemical is bad for the insects. The insects do not like it and will fly away soon. But fishermen could no longer make a living, and people living nearby faced water shortages.
You are wrong if you think this will not happen again. Two-thirds of China’s cities now face water shortages. And about 300 million people living in the countryside drink unhealthy water.

To deal with the problem, Ban calls on people to use water in a sustainable way. “Farmers should learn to get ‘more crop per drop’ by using good irrigation technologies(灌溉技术). And also, governments should deal with the problem with all other players, including everyone, “Ban said.

On Monday, a company called Rocket Lab used a plane to catch a rocket when it fell from space. Rocket Lab hopes to lower the costs of rocket launches by using the booster(推进器)of the rocket again.
To get enough energy to launch spaceship into space, a rocket may use more than one booster. Peter, who leads Rocket Lab, says that about 80% of the costs of a rocket is for the first booster. That’s why Rocket Lab is working to try to catch and use its first part of the boosters again. Saving money by using rocket parts again will bring down the cost of launching.
In the past, Rocket Lab let some boosters fall into the ocean and took them back, but the salty sea water can
be bad for boosters and make them hard to reuse safely.
As you might imagine, catching a big rocket booster is very difficult because it weighs nearly 1,000 kg, but it worked — at least for a short time. When it began falling, a parachute was opened to slow it down. Then, the plane used a long cable with a hook at the end to catch it. This hook caught onto another cable between the parachute and the booster, catching the falling booster. So, the quality of the cable is very important.
This test wasn’t fully successful because later the plane had to drop off the rocket for safety reasons because the cable was not strong enough. However, Rocket Lab still hopes that next time the plane will be able to take the booster to a nearby boat.
