There is no such thing as a perfect woman, and Nothing But Thirty screenwriter Zhang Yingji wanted to convey this message in telling the stories of three different women, who have round very different ways to climb their own mountains.
Wang Manni is a woman who will climb any mountain as long as she finds it challenging. Zhong Xiaoqin is one who will only climb if she has someone to go along with her. She will not overexert (使……过度劳累) herself, and she will definitely stop once she has reached a comfortable place Gu lia, on the other hand, has already started to think about reaching the peak before she even starts the climb, regardless of whether she is alone or has company.
In a sense the scriptwriter purposely created Gu Jia as the perfect woman of thirty. She is married, with a successful husband and a young son. She is living the dream, but Gu Jia does not feel complete. She feels lost. She is flawed. She has episodes of succumbing (屈服) to her own greed and disregard to those around her.
“She is someone who chases after perfection.” said Tong Yao (who portrays Gu Jia). “Obviously, this is stressful for those around her. she hides things. She isn’t perfect, but in front of others. she has to stay perfect.”
Her chase for perfection and her stubbornness to maintain this image has effected many of the relationships in her life. She chases after what she believes is right for others. Because of this, she and her husband start to see and value things differently, which puts a strain on their relationship.
Gu Jia’s personal struggles give life to the character. Many viewers are able to relate to her, and, through her character, find a shadow of themselves. There’s still a lot left that we can learn from the women of Nothing but Thirty, but maybe like them, we too can find the courage in ourselves to walk on that mad which is truly meant for us.
24.According to the article, which of the following best describes Zhong Xiaoqin’s personality
A.Ambitious and goal-driven B.Moderate and content
C.Purposeful and impulsive D.Visionary and independent
25.According to Paragraph 3, what is NOT TRUE about Gu Jia’s life
A.She has her own worries and insecurities.
B She leads a seemingly perfect an a enviable life.
C.She can be greedy and insensitive to others’ feelings.
D.She is discontented with life because of her husband.
26.According to the passage, audiences have a preference for Gu Jia mainly because she ______.
A.is a perfectionist B.stands up to her husband
C.balances her work and life well D.displays some identifiable personalities
27.What is the main purpose of this passage
A.To call attention to the rise of feminism.
B.To introduce the plot of Nothing but Thirty.
C.To contrast the main characters of Nothing but Thirty.
D.To encourage viewers to find inspiration in Nothing but Thirty.
C
Electronics woven (编织) into fabrics promise to open up all kinds of interesting possibilities, from clothing that monitors muscle activity and tracks breathing, to garments that can talk to one another. Developing pliable power sources to go with them is an equally important field of research, so scientists at the University of British Columbia have put forward a particularly impressive solution that they say could be the first ever battery that is both stretchable and washable.
To develop a battery with such capabilities, the scientists reimagined the way these devices are put together. Rather than forming a lithium-ion battery packed with hardened -materials inside a rigid exterior, the team turned to an alternative chemistry in zinc-manganese (锌锰) dioxide, which is appealing for its low cost and safety. These materials were ground down into tiny pieces and inset in a polymer (聚合物) to form very thin and stretchable layers.
“We went with zinc-manganese because for devices worn next to the skin, it’s a safer chemistry than lithium-ion batteries. which can produce deadly compounds when they break,” says Nguyen.
The resulting battery is flexible and can be stretched to twice its normal length, has a specific capacity of 160 mAhg-1 and keeps 75 percent of its capacity over 500 charge and discharge cycles. Impressively, the team found the battery to withstand 39 wash cycles so far.
The team is now working to improve the power output and lifetime of the battery, and says the creation has already attracted commercial interest, with the cost expected to be similar to a standard rechargeable battery. They imagine it being put to use in watches and patches that measure vital signs, and in smart clothing that does much the same thing.
28.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “pliable” in paragraph 1
A.Strong. B.Multiple. C.Reliable. D.Flexible.
29.What was a major consideration for introducing zinc—manganese battery
A.Safety. B.Hardness. C.Comfortableness. D.Convenience.
30.Which aspect of the new battery impressed the researchers in paragraph 4
A.Its washability. B.Its stretch length. C.Its massive capacity. D.Its charge speed.
31.What is the main idea of the text
A.Electronic clothing is well received.
B.Clothing fitted with new battery is on the way.
C.Flexible and washable power sources woven into clothing will be available.
D.Electronics woven into fabrics open up possibilities.

Is it possible to persuade mankind to live without war War is an ancient institution, which has existed for at least six thousand years. It was always bad and usually foolish, but in the past human race managed to live with it. Modern technology has changed this: Either man will abolish war, or war will abolish man. For the present, it is nuclear weapons that cause the most serious danger, but bacteriological on chemical weapons may, before long, offer an even greater threat. If we succeed in abolishing nuclear weapons, our work will not be done. It will never be done until we have succeeded in abolishing war. To do this, we need to persuade mankind to look upon international questions in a new way, not as contests of force, in which the victory goes to the side which is most skillful in killing people, but by arbitration (通过仲裁) in accordance with agreed principles of law. It is not easy to change very old mental habits, but this is what must be attempted.
There are those who say that the adoption of this or that ideology would prevent war. I believe this to be a big error. All ideologies are based upon dogmatic (武断的) statements that are, at best, doubtful, and at worst, totally false. Their followers believe in them so fanatically that they are willing to go to war in support of them.
The movement of world opinion during the past few years has been very largely such as we can welcome. It has become a commonplace that nuclear war must be avoided. Of course very difficult problems remain in the world, but the spirit in which they are being approached is a better one than it was some years ago. It has begun to be thought, even by the powerful men who decide whether we shall live or die, that negotiations should reach agreements even if both sides do not find these agreements wholly satisfactory. It has begun to be understood that the important conflict nowadays is not between different countries, but between man and the atom bomb.
32.A probable interpretation of the sentence in bold (黑体) in the 1st paragraph could be ______.
A.Man, as well as war, will have to make the ultimate choice between them two
B.Modern technology has empowered man to choose war or not
C.People will eventually destroy themselves if they choose to go to war at modern times
D.At least 6, 000 years later, man has finally decided to abandon war once and for all
33.From paragraphs 1 and 2, which of the following conclusion could we arrive at
A.The author believes any ideology is either doubtful or false.
B.Arbitration instead of contests can help change old mental habits.
C.Nuclear weapons have posed the greatest threat to human race.
D.Adoption of one ideology or another does nothing to prevent wars.
34.Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word “approached”
A.Addressed. B.Reached. C.Divided. D.Praised.
35.The author’s attitude towards “the world opinion of nuclear war” is ______.
A.pessimistic B.indifferent C.optimistic D.neutral
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
Is a moviegoer different than a movie-lover I’d say so. You can love a movie by watching it at home. 36 . I’ve spent a lot of time talking to people about movies. By listening to what they say, I can report they only share one thing in common: they go out.
I’ve thought about two views of the moviegoer lately.
The first view comes from Roland Barthes. Most often, his moviegoers don’t go to the movies for a distinct purpose. 37 . They are bored. Once they get inside, they can’t help but sink into a relaxed state. When they leave the movie theater, these moviegoers don’t want to talk to anyone about the movie. 38 . Barthes sees them as a lonely being, one who is introspective (自省的). I think some of us use movie theaters to retreat inside ourselves.
The second view comes from the Clark Theater manager, Bruce Trinz. When people go to the movies they go for a certain personal motive. They may want to forget something, or escape from the lives they are leading. Or they may want to see a film they liked years ago. 39 , they are the hopeless addicts who. quite simply, like movies. The only thing I would challenge in this definition is the word hopeless. 40 , but they come to the movies filled with hope. They may not be able to define what they hope to experience, but they will know it when they feel it.
A.Whatever motive they have
B.To be a moviegoer, you have to go out
C.The movie also puts them somewhere else
D.They are instead wrapped up in themselves
E.Because moviegoers go in search of beauty
F.Moviegoers may be hopelessly addicted to the movies
G.It’s something to do with a response to leisure, free time

I needed to do something in my community (社区) in order to complete the community service hours required to graduate from high school. Some of my friends had signed up to spend time at a soup kitchen, so I did, too. It seemed like a good thing to do.
I thought that we would just be passing out dinners to those in need, but I found out we would be doing everything from preparing to serving the dinner. We began preparing the food, from mixing salad dressing to separating frozen meat. Much still needed to be done before dinner was served, but already outside the building many homeless people were gathering. It wasn’t until a couple of hours later that we opened the doors and began serving dinner.
As the line of people came toward me, I got a little scared. I’d come face to face with the homeless: How should I act How would they treat me Would they hate me for having more than they did While some of the people looked very friendly, some of them looked so dangerous. I didn’t have too much time to worry about it. I was assigned (分配) to serve the salad with the lady next to me. She smiled at me and said if I needed help, she’d be right there, which I found quite comforting.
I had never seen so many people wanting food. They were of all ages and nationalities. Most of them wore clothes that were torn and dirty. Some looked like they had totally given up on life, while others seemed to be making the best of the situation, smiling and joking. Some were better off than others, but they all needed a good meal and a warm place to eat. It saddened me to think of how many people there were who didn’t have a place to call home and the only food they got came from a soup kitchen.

As they came in my direction, I put on my brightest and happiest smile. I wanted to make them know that I was really anxious to help them. To my relief, they smiled politely back at me when they saw my smile, and I could see their exhaustion in their eyes. I wanted to know what they were going through and I was desperate to know what I could do for them. They nodded gratefully as I pushed my spoon into the pot and took a large spoonful and poured it into their bowls.
I was so happy that I had earned my service hours in this way. This experience made me realize that there are so many people in this world who need our help. It also made me realize that our small act of kindness can make them feel warm and make a great difference to them. I will never forget the way they looked at me when they were given food. I am anxious to urge the world to do everything possible to help those in need.
