(2023·河南省实验中学高二下期中考试)A song called “Lonely Warrior” is always ringing in my ears. Six years ago, after hosting an annual ceremony for my school, I found that my left leg was a little swollen, and very soon I could barely walk. In fact, the swollen part became a fist-sized meatball that was so painful that I could barely sleep. Of course, I went to a local hospital, where I was given very bleak(不乐观的) news—the osteosarcoma, which means bone cancer.
I underwent chemotherapy(化疗) for the next two years, and it was the worst time of my life. Physically, I felt that the side effects of chemotherapy were killing me. I lost all of the hair on my body and I became totally bald. I could barely eat anything, even if I felt hungry. I no longer needed an alarm clock to wake me up in the morning. Instead, what woke me up was my body telling me that I needed to vomit(呕吐).

I had no idea when all treatment would leave me, and the dreams I had once nursed about the future were entirely wiped out. I wanted to feel the world and experience more, so I stuck to the course of treatment. As time went by, however, I became weaker and weaker. The side effects were far worse than they had been earlier.

I eventually suggested that the leg be chopped off, and the doctor said that might be the best thing to do, as long as I could cope with the psychological and social pressure afterwards. I made my decision very calmly, because I knew things could not be worse than they were at that moment, and I was determined that this was just one more battle I would win.

Now, I have weathered all these difficulties. I have been so lucky to be able to find the strength to overcome my difficulties, and what I would like to tell anyone who is still struggling with difficulties is: Have faith in yourself. Do not let bad moments drag you down. Just hang on and you will come through.

Each nation has many good people who help to take care of others. For example, some high school and college students in the United States often spend many hours as volunteers in hospitals, orphanages(孤儿院) or homes for the aged. They read books to the people in these places, or they just visit them, play games with them or listen to their problems.

Other young volunteers work in the homes of people who are sick or old. They paint, clean up, or repair their houses, do their shopping or mow their lawns. For boys who no longer have fathers, there is an organization called Big Brothers. College students and other men take these boys to baseball games or on fishing trips and help them get to know things that boys usually learn from their fathers.

Each city has a number of clubs where boys and girls can go to play games or learn crafts. Some of these clubs show movies or organize short trips to mountains, beaches, museums or other places of interest. Most of these clubs choose a lot of high school and college students as volunteers because they are young enough to remember the problems of younger boys and girls.
Volunteers believe that the happiest people in the world are those who help to bring happiness to others.

I believe I will live my life to the fullest in the senior high school.
Thank you.
First, I should form good learning habits to make sure that I can learn well. Clearly, successful study is based on good ways and habits. Second, a class is like a family where we should get along well with others. But how? As we know, only if we are sincere and kind to others can we have good relationships with them. Finally, I will learn to develop good qualities. Of course, I will make all efforts to achieve my dream of being an astronaut. It is our determination that helps us challenge and overcome difficulties. (共24张PPT)
