Qian Hongyan waited on the starting line, supporting herself using her hands and torso(躯干). When the starting signal sounded, Qian pushed herself into the water. She won a silver medal in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke(蛙泳)SB5 final in the 11th National Games for Persons with Disabilities & the 8th National Special Olympic Games held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province in 2021.
Qian, from Luliang County, Yunnan Province, had both of her legs cut off after getting into an accident in 2000 when she was 4 years old. Her family were extremely poor. With few resources available, her grandfather cut an old basketball to replace her lower body. After that she became well-known for moving around on an orange ball, earning her the nickname “basketball girl”.
Qian’s passion for swimming dates back to 2007, when she was invited by the local Disabled Persons’ Federation to watch the 7th National Games for Persons with Disabilities in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan. At 11 years old, she joined the provincial swimming team for people with disabilities. However, without legs, it was difficult for Qian to keep her balance in water. “Swimming without legs is like rowing a boat without a rudder(舵). Every day, she practiced for at least four hours. She made great efforts to sharpen up and enhance her arm strength and balance.
In 2009, she won three gold medals in the provincial contests in Yunnan, as well as one gold medal and two silvers at national events. In 2014, she won another gold medal in the 100m breaststroke final in the Yunnan Provincial Paralympic Games. In the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, she was placed ninth in the 100m breaststroke SB5 competition.

(2024河南洛阳强基联盟联考)
A small study out of Skidmore College examined the advantages of morning exercise vs evening exercise for both women and men. Paul, professor of health at Skidmore College, led the study.
“We had the groups divided into evening and morning groups,” he says. “We found women and men answered differently to different types of exercise, depending on the time of the day, which surprised us.”
The study showed that for women who want to lower blood pressure(血压), the risk of heart disease or reduce fat, morning exercise works best. Those women hoping for upper body muscle gains or mood(心情) improvement should consider evening exercise. For men, the findings were somewhat different: Evening exercise lowers blood pressure, the risk of heart disease, and feelings of tiredness. But similar to women, they burn more fat with morning exercise.
“For many people, the best time to exercise will depend on their chronotype,” says Heisz, author of Move the Body, Heal the Mind.
“Chronotype is your body’s natural habit to sleep at a certain time—it’s what decides whether you’re a night owl or an early bird. For the 25% of the population that consider themselves a night owl, getting both enough sleep and enough exercise can be difficult,” adds Heisz.
He continues, “Sleep—which provides your body with the necessary time to recover(恢复) and make gains from exercise—should always be the first choice. When it comes to exercise, regardless of research on the benefits of certain exercises at particular times of the day, your results will not be good if it doesn’t allow enough time for sleep.”
5.What can women get by doing evening exercise according to the study
A.Fat loss. B.A good mood.
C.Lower blood pressure. D.A smaller risk of heart disease.
6.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 5
A.Give an example. B.Tell the difference.
C.Explain a term. D.Do an experiment.
7.What does Heisz think is important to achieve good results of exercise
A.Enough sleep. B.Low-fat food.
C.Plenty of water. D.Lots of exercise.
8.What is the best title for the text
A.A Night Owl or an Early Bird
B.Why Fitness Plan Being Important
C.How to Change Your Exercise Time
D.The Best Time of a Day to Exercise
