In the South Korean town of Jeonjuloves, their “mixed rice” dish is a hearty serve of rice topped with raw beef, a rainbow of vegetables, a raw egg and so much gochujang sauce. They take four days out of October to celebrate it.

In the past two years, instead of my favourite maple-frosted donut (枫糖霜甜甜圈)cake, I had one birthday request from my family—hiking and a picnic together. Thankfully, it was my special day, so they only rolled their eyes and sighed once and then agreed to come along—exploring new places and discovering hidden waterfalls.
That was the past two years. That’s not today.
Today is my birthday, and I’m on the other side of the world. I wish that I could hang out with my family and friends in the US. Just for today—on my birthday.
We are “lonely internationals”. It’s hard. I won’t pretend it’s not.
My mother, “Nana” to my four boys, tells me regularly how she has missed almost all of her grandsons’ birthday celebrations. She intentionally connects with them through texts and FaceTime on their birthdays so that she can join us for the time of singing “Happy Birthday” and see the kids blow out their candles.
However, that is not the same as “being there” physically—together. She feels like she misses our major life milestones called “birthdays”.
Today, I’m okay. My mother had made an e-card for me, sent to my email box early this morning. She never forgets. My in-laws, my sister and her family, my sweet friend in France, and my dear friends here in Spain and over there in the US have already wished me “Happy Birthday” online. Some even mailed me cards and gifts across the sea.
The only “gifts” I’m missing are maple-frosted donuts for a birthday cake. My mother tried to bring them to me in Europe when she travelled to visit me. However, after a 20-hour trip across the sea, they weren’t so fresh anymore.
Tonight, we will have a special dinner outside on our back porch in the cool, evening air. I will blow out a lot of candles on my birthday cake.
I am happy. I have breath, life, a heartbeat, and deep inner joy from the love of my family and friends around the world.

The fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar calendar, also known as the Lantern Festival, is the last day of the Spring Festival celebration. It’s time to enjoy the important festival food: rice glue balls. The food is called tangyuan in the south, and yuanxiao in the north of China. It’s one of our favorite foods at Chinese festivals, as the round shape represents reunion.
Li Mingcheng, more than 60 years old, has been making rice glue balls for over 40 years. His snack bar brand was founded over 100 years ago. Every kid looked forward to Spring Festival, because long ago, rice glue balls were luxury(奢侈的) food. People only made them during Spring Festival. Besides the rare dishes like meat, the rice glue balls were an important part of Li’s childhood memories.
“The surface is made from rice from northeast China. It is the best,” says Li. After being put into water for 24 hours, the rice is milled(磨成粉) to make dough and it is mixed with sweet juice. For the filling, black sesame(芝麻) is a classic choice. The filling is a mixture of sesame, sugar and lard. Some people prefer it with walnuts, peanuts and brown sugar.
After eating rice glue balls, families make full use of the rest of the holiday to see lantern shows. In the colorful light, people wish a whole year were as happy as that day. Those sweet times are connected with rice glue balls and happiness at the festival.

It goes without saying that many Western wedding customs are completely different from those of Asian cultures. Some are so rooted in history that many Westerners have no idea whether they even exist.
Traditionally, June has been the most popular month for people to get married. One reason is that June 1 was the date of an ancient Roman festival celebrating the marriage of the god Jupiter and his wife Juno. Another reason will likely astonish you. Centuries ago, taking a bath was not as common as it is today. Some people took a bath only once a year, typically in May. Since June was a time most wedding guests would not be too smelly, that month was preferred.
Another wedding custom is for the bride to “wear something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”. Wearing something old is said to protect newlyweds’ future baby, while the new item shows optimism for the future. Meanwhile, something borrowed is meant to bring good luck, and something blue is a promise of being faithful. What is less known is the fact that the bride is also supposed to have a sixpence in her shoe for prosperity(兴旺). Interestingly, in Sweden, the bride is given two coins before getting married—one is gold from her mother and the other silver from her father—also to put in her shoes. These fascinating customs show just how important certain wedding traditions are in Western cultures.
The concept of the “white wedding”, at which the bride wears a white wedding dress, is a familiar one. It is thought, mistakenly though, that this is a tradition that developed in ancient times and originated from the belief that white is a symbol of purity. Actually, the custom of brides wearing this color dates back less than 200 years and is attributed to the wedding of Queen Victoria. The queen’s choice of white for her wedding was unusual for the time as other colors, especially red, were much more common.
After the news of Victoria’s highly publicized wedding to Prince Albert spread, not just around the United Kingdom, but to other nations including the United States, women began following in her footsteps and wearing white dresses at their wedding ceremonies. With white being the choice of a powerful royal figure like Queen Victoria, the color became associated with wealth, nobility, and the fashion.
32.Based on the text, why has June been the most popular month to get married
A.Because Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in June 1840.
B.Because June is the month in which Romans recall the souls of gods.
C.Because some people didn’t take a bath until May in ancient times.
D.Because it is considered to be the luckiest time of the year to get married.
33.Which of the following wedding customs is said to protect an unborn baby
A.Wearing something old.
B.Wearing something blue.
C.Wearing a shoe with a coin in it.
D.Wearing something borrowed.
34.What can we learn from the “white wedding” mentioned in the passage
A.The white wedding dress is a symbol of purity and nobility.
B.Red rather than white was once popular in English weddings.
C.Queen Victoria wore the white wedding dress in the hope of breaking old customs.
D.The custom of the white wedding started thousands of years ago.
35.What can be the best title for the text
A.Routines of marriage ceremonies
B.Exploring Western wedding customs
C.Reflecting on old traditions
D.Highlights of traditional weddings

John Blanchard stood up, straightened his army uniform(制服), and studied the crowd making their way through the station. He looked for the girl whose heart he knew, but whose face he didn’t, the girl with a rose.
His interest in her began thirteen months ago in a library. Taking a book off the shelf, he found himself fascinated, not by the words of the book, but by the notes penciled in the margin(页边的空白). The soft handwriting showed a thoughtful soul and brilliant mind. In the front of the book, he discovered the owner’s name, Miss Hollis Meynell. With time and effort, he found her address. She lived in New York. He wrote her a letter, introducing himself and inviting her to correspond(通信). The next day he was shipped overseas for military service.
During the next year and one month, the two began to know each other by mail. Each letter was a seed falling on both hearts. Romance was budding. Blanchard asked for a photograph, but she refused. She felt that if he really cared, it wouldn’t matter what she looked like.
When the day finally came for him to return from Europe, they scheduled their first meeting—7:00 pm at Grand Central Station in New York. “You’ll recognize me,” she wrote. “By the red rose I’ll wear my dress.” So at 7:00 he was in the station, looking for a girl whose heart he loved, but whose face he’d never seen.
A young lady was coming toward him. Her figure was long and slim; her blonde hair lay back from her ears; her eyes were blue as flowers; her lips and chin had gentle firmness, and in her pale green suit she was like springtime coming alive. He went toward her, entirely forgetting to notice that she was not wearing a rose. As he moved, a middle-aged woman whispered, “Going my way, sir ”
Almost uncontrollably he made his way to the woman, and then he noticed that she was wearing a rose.

The woman’s face broadened into a big smile.

根据第三段中的“The surface is made from rice from northeast China.(皮是用中国东北的大米做的。)”和“After being put into water for 24 hours...sweet juice.(在放入水中二十四小时后,大米被磨成粉来做生面团,并混合上甜汁。)”
根据最后一段第一句“After eating rice glue balls, families make full use of the rest of the holiday to see lantern shows.(吃完元宵/汤圆后,家家户户充分利用剩余的假期去看灯展。)”

根据第二段中的“Some people took a bath only once a year, typically in May. Since June was a time most wedding guests would not be too smelly, that month was preferred.”

上文“Are you confused about...prepare for birthdays ”提到了计划和准备生日庆祝活动,下文“Here are some tips on birthday celebrations to get you started.”
37.A 主旨句。 下文“Rather than making a birthday cake in the kitchen, ordering a handmade cake online is undoubtedly a better choice.”
上文“They can play much music as you like.”
上文“Many people like to hold their parties at home.”提到了在家中举行聚会,而下文“You can relieve a large amount of stress by finding a meeting place outside.”
上文“To ensure your loved one s party is special...surprised to see.”
41.A 根据上文“I remember to this day the feeling of the cold wind causing my ears to hurt.” 故选A项。
42.C 根据下文“It is thought that the tradition came from the Vikings who were settlers in the Western Isles.”
43.D 此处的that指代该传统的起源;再根据下文“I was out and about having 44 .”
44.C 根据上文“Honestly, that wasn t 43 to me.”
46.A 根据上文“There were about 25 houses to visit in my town of North Boisdale.” 故选A项。
47.B 根据下文“After that, the mother of the house would bring out the 50 .”
48.A 根据本句中的“Outside each house”及下文中的“Once inside the house”可知,男孩子们要征得主人的许可方可“进入”。故选A项。
用then(然后)来叙述事情的发展。故选D项。
50.B 根据下文“Fruit, biscuits and of course sweets.”
52.D 根据空后的“the family luck in the coming year”可知,男孩们在离开这家之前,祝这一家人好运。
53.B 根据上文“Each person had a pillowcase that would be filled with goodies 47 from householders.”
55.B 根据下文“so all the boys would be home before the bells”可知,所有的男孩在钟声响起之前要回到家,所以这个小聚会要在午夜前结束,好让男孩们回家。
故填have accepted。
64.to make 考查不定式。 固定搭配remember to do sth. 故填to make。
prepare sth. or buy sth. for sb. 故填for。
One possible version:
Good morning, my dear friends. I’m Li Hua.Welcome to our school. Knowing you’re keen on traditional Chinese culture, I’d like to introduce a traditional Chinese festival to you—the Dragon Boat Festival.
The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, so it’s also called the Double Fifth Festival. On that day, we usually eat zongzi—sticky rice dumplings wrapped in reed leaves. As the festival’s name shows, people hold dragon boat races to celebrate it, especially in the southern places in memory of Qu Yuan, a great poet of ancient China. Therefore, it’s regarded as a day of mourning and cherishing the memory of Qu Yuan.
Thanks for your listening.
第二节
One possible version:
Almost uncontrollably he made his way to the woman, and then he noticed that she was wearing a rose. To be sure, she should be the girl he was looking for though John Blanchard was kind of disappointed to see the woman, who was in her forties. Thinking that it doesn’t matter what she looked like, he walked toward the woman, greeted her and held out the book with the owner’s name he had found in the library. “I’m John Blanchard, and you must be Miss Meynell. I am so glad I could meet you and may I take you to dinner ”
The woman’s face broadened into a big smile. “I don t know what this is about on earth,” she answered, “but the young lady in her pale green suit who just went by begged me to wear the red rose on my coat. And she promised if you were going to ask me out to dinner, I should tell you that the young lady is waiting for you in the big restaurant across the street. She said it was just a test!”
