Some live performance halls on this planet are wonderful. They can make even a single note sound wonderful. Here are four famous concert halls around the world. Enjoy!
Cidade das Artes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
Opened in 2013, this is one of the largest modern concert halls in South America. This building was designed by Christian de Portzamparc. Named “City of Arts”, this is a cultural building group that hosts art exhibitions, dance events, comedy shows and workshops. Carnegie Hall (New York, USA)
Designed by William Burnet Tuthill, it is one of the most famous concert halls in the world for both classical music and popular music. Pop stars have traditionally not come from the upper classes of society. Eminem grew up at a trailer park(拖车式活动房屋停车场). 50 Cent is from the dangerous shelter of New York. The Beatles grew up in the poor city of Liverpool.
However, some musicians have come from the army. Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, served with the United States Army in Germany. Following that tradition comes a British hit, James Blunt. His single, You're Beautiful, was a huge success, and his concerts have sold out all over the country.
James Blunt, born on February 22, 1974, comes from a family with a long tradition of military service. His early life was not filled with music. His army officer father thought all music, even classical music, was unnecessary noise. His life seemed certain to follow that of his father's before him—private schools, a good university and a career as an officer in the British Army. The thought of pursuing a career in music had never occurred to him until he heard an older boy playing an electric guitar at age 14. When he was sent to Kosovo in 1999, he didn't only take his gun, but he also took his guitar, attached to the side of his tank. As he drove through villages damaged by the war, he used to sing John Lennon's song Give Peace a Chance. “Well,” he later said, “we were peacekeepers.”
In 2003 he left the army and went to Los Angeles to make a record. In 2004, his first album Back to Bedlam was released, and the singles High, Wisemen and You're Beautiful have been great successes. For the singing soldier, putting down a gun for a guitar has been a good choice.

Every year on June 21st, World Music Day is celebrated in over 100 countries, including its birthplace of France, to honor both amateur and professional musicians. Citizens of a city or country are permitted and encouraged to perform music outside in their neighborhoods, public areas, and parks on World Music Day. Free concerts are also held, where musicians perform for the joy of it rather than for a fee.
In the 1970s, the American musician Joel Cohen, who was then working for a French radio station, came up with the idea of having musicians perform on the evening of June 21st to celebrate the start of summer. It was finally accepted by France's Ministry of Culture in 1982. The day started in France and has since extended to countries such as Belgium, the United Kingdom and others. It's the ideal time to learn a new instrument or listen to songs that wouldn't be ordinarily included on the playlist. Every type of musician can celebrate World Music Day with friends, family, and even strangers, whether they are young, elderly, new, or seasoned professionals. The purpose is to promote music.
It makes no difference how good you are at making music; everyone can do it. This day can be used by even the most tone-deaf folks to sing their hearts out and appreciate the beauty and power of music. Music is not only a great way to express yourself, but it may also be beneficial to your health. A song might bring back a joyful memory or make you feel energized when you listen to it.

Beethoven is undoubtedly one of the greatest musicians. He completed hundreds of musical works. Unfortunately, the master died while still working on his Symphony(交响曲) No.10. Now, a team of musicians and scientists have used artificial intelligence (AI) to complete the artist's final composition.
Dr. Matthias first came up with the idea of completing the composition in 2019. He thought it was an appropriate way to celebrate Beethoven's 250th birthday in December 2020. He began by enlisting an international team of music experts to help him with the giant task. They included the music composer Walter and Dr. Ahmed, the creator of an innovative AI technology for the art market.
Ahmed and his colleagues started the process by familiarizing the AI software initially with a broad range of classical music, and then, narrowed it down to just Beethoven's work. Meanwhile, Walter and his group tried to interpret the rough drafts and the handful of notes that detailed Beethoven's plans for the symphony.
The team then began the slow and careful task of feeding the AI software musical notes from the unfinished composition. To stay true to Beethoven's original composition, Ahmed's team sent Walter hundreds of AI-generated musical note variations every evening. Walter would listen to them and then select the one that he thought was closest to what the artist would have written. The AI team would add the music and rerun the software to generate the next suggestions. And piece by piece, the team was able to complete Beethoven's Symphony No.10!
The composition was first released on October 9, 2021. Not surprisingly, it caused some controversy(争议). Critics believe technology should not be used to replicate the human creative process. Ahmed and his team agree with their opinions and say their AI software is not out to replace humans—it is just a tool to help artists to express themselves in new ways.
32.What is the purpose of the writer in writing Paragraph 1
A.To voice his greatest respect for Beethoven.
B.To compare traditional music and AI music.
C.To present the team's hard work.
D.To introduce an innovative method of creating music.

B.AI Helps Complete Beethoven's Unfinished Symphony
C.A Team of Experts Completed an Impossible Mission
D.A Controversial Way Successfully Interprets Beethoven's Music
Should you listen to music when you work Some will say they love it, saying that it improves their performance; others will say they cannot work effectively with music playing in the background. 36 It just depends on what type of work you're doing.
In a recent study, we brought participants into our lab with a variety of tasks. They included an easy task—searching through word lists and crossing out(删掉) words containing the letter “a” and a more difficult task—memorizing word pairs and recalling the partner of each word. Some participants completed all of the tasks in silence, whereas others completed the tasks with instrumental music that was either loud or soft, and either simple or complex, the latter meaning music with more instrumental tracks. 37
We found that participants who listened to simple music or no music performed about the same on the easy task. 38 Contrarily, participants performed worse on the more difficult task when they listened to any music, regardless of complexity or volume(音量), compared to those who didn't listen to any music.
39 Not surprisingly, we typically need to use fewer of our mental resources when we perform easy tasks, whereas demanding tasks require more brainpower. However, because we might be less engaged(忙的) during easier tasks, there's a greater risk of drifting off to sleep. Music might give us the extra boost we need to get refreshed. 40 Listening to music can become overkill(过犹不及). So we have to strike a balance between the type of music and the type of task.
A.How should we understand these findings
B.We concluded several key findings from our study.
C.However, difficult tasks already demand a lot of our mental resources.
D.Our research has found that the effects of work may depend on our personalities.
E.Interestingly enough, our research has found that both of these views can be true.
F.However, participants who listened to complex music performed best on the easy task.
G.We want to develop a more comprehensive framework that could be applied more broadly.

I recently went to a jam session(即兴演奏会) with some other musicians in town. When I used to jam with other musicians, I spent more time in my head 41 about my drumming(击鼓) instead of 42 paying attention to what was going on. This time though, I found that I was more 43 and was able to support the other musicians more through my playing.
Because of this, our 44 was better than ever before, and I could feel the audience was 45 the music more too, because the music was 46 about me; it was about all of us connecting through the 47 language of music.
Afterwards, the musicians I played with told me they felt like our hearts were 48 while playing, and that we were able to achieve a new 49 of playing together thanks to our collected approach. When playing, there was no ego(自我) or one-upmanship. There were just us 50 ourselves with our open hearts.
I believe that the best musicians in the world have this in 51 , which is to see past their own egos, and to listen to or connect with their 52 and fellow musicians. I've 53 all of this thanks to my practice of being a more kindhearted and caring person.
“What will we be singing for the contest this year ” a student from my high school choir,a singing team, asked eagerly.
I hesitated this moment. “I was thinking,” I said. “Maybe we'll skip the contest and just work hard on the concerts this year. ”
“NO!” the kids protested.
“We've got to enter the contest!”
“In Class A.”
“It's tradition!”
This was true.Awards lined the front wall of the music room from the past successes of large, talented classes. But a change in educational policies, with an emphasis on academic knowledge, had reduced my choir to a mere thirty-two students. My section leaders had graduated or been forced to drop music classes, leaving me with young, inexperienced kids who couldn't read music, couldn't hold their parts, and could sing only a simple melody or song.
“Maybe we could enter Class B this year,” I suggested, knowing that even that would be a near-impossible mission.
“No!” the kids screamed. “Class A!”
I shook my head. “Class A is extremely difficult.”
“We can do it!” they shouted. “We can do it!”
“I'll have to think about it,” I said, hoping their enthusiasm would die off in a couple of weeks.
But that didn't happen. If anything, the class became more fixed. Every day they begged and begged and they insisted. Because I had to protect their self-pride, I couldn't tell them they weren't good enough. My efforts to prevent their eagerness, by showing them a difficult piece of music from the contest list, simply ended with, “It's okay, Mrs. Pliszka. We'll get it.”
I struggled to make a decision.

When the contest day finally arrived, the kids felt ready to take on the world!

根据第一段中的“Now, a team of musicians...final composition.”
根据下文“AI software is not out to replace humans—it is just a tool to help artists to express themselves in new ways”可知,人工智能软件并不是要取代人类——它只是一个帮助艺术家以新的方式表达自己的工具。 故选A。
通读文章并根据第一段中的“Now, a team of musicians...final composition.”

One possible version:
Good morning, my dearest classmates. It is my great honour to stand here and deliver a speech about the importance of music in our daily life.
First, music can help us relieve tiredness as well as feel less stressed. We can completely relax ourselves in music. What is more, appreciating music is of great benefit to our minds. Last but not least, people with access to music often get improved in creativity.
All in all, music will help us keep healthy. Thank you all for being such an attentive audience.
第二节
One possible version:
I struggled to make a decision. If I destroyed their hope, would I destroy their spirit On the other hand, if we decided to enter Class A, would they be humiliated by the judges' comments Finally one morning, I walked into the classroom. “Kids!” I demanded. “We are entering the contest in Class A...” The rest of my sentence was lost in screams of delight and applause. As the weeks progressed, each morning the kids practiced singing, worked on reading music, learned musical terms, and practiced rhythms.
When the contest day finally arrived, the kids felt ready to take on the world! As my choir went on stage,I mouthed, “Smile!” They looked confident. I took a deep breath, and we began. They performed masterfully. Two very long hours later, the results were posted. I stood frozen, staring at the list in disbelief: a first place award with the highest marks of all.All kids were screaming and embracing. Warm tears wet my cheeks.I was surrounded by kids who had a dream—kids who refused to give up—kids who taught me to never doubt the possibility of success for any students or any classes ever again.
