For most freshmen, August is the month of military training(军训), which becomes a good chance to get familiar with new classmates, adapt to campus life and learn how to be a leader.
Our school’s military training took place from Aug. 23 to 29. One of the challenges was to make a blackboard newspaper in the new classroom. When I found out that I was responsible for the project, I had butterflies in my stomach. Would other top students alienate me Would they feel that I did not belong to their group Even though they were friendly, what if my classmates didn’t follow my advice under my leadership
The project began on Aug. 24. The three other girls and I gave up our lunch break and returned to the dormitory later at night so as to work longer on the project. One girl, named Linda, challenged my design, which discouraged me from time to time. But whenever we had different opinions, I tried to stay calm, making suitable adjustments. Soon, I found her to be a person with strong opinions and organizing abilities. Sometimes, I even felt relieved to leave the project in her care.
Surprisingly, other classmates were very easy-going. On the last day, two hours before our result from the school leaders, we needed paper flowers so the whole class joined us and covered the work table with a blanket of flowers in two minutes! When the work was done, our teacher said that no matter what the result might be, our efforts were the most important.
Our class finally won first prize in the competition, which I had not expected. But our teacher was right: The result doesn’t matter. I have never seen a class with such a strong sense of group honor, and at that moment, I strongly believed that I was working with a group of top students and I could be a qualified leader.

The freshman year of senior high school is a big transition(转变) for any student. Luckily, you’re not the only person going through this and plenty of others have made the transition before you.
One of the ways in which high school is different from middle school or junior high school the most is the higher expectations. You’ll find that you’re expected to keep closer track of your own schedule and responsibilities with fewer people checking up on you. At the same time, your classes are likely to become more challenging, and you might be participating in new school activities as well.
Some students find it hard to keep up with everything at first, which is totally normal. One way to prepare in advance for these higher expectations is to make sure that you have organized schedules in place before you start high school.
Another important skill in meeting these higher expectations is building a strong support network. No matter how strong you are, at some point you will obviously need some help. Keeping healthy relationships with your friends and teachers is a great way to make sure that you have people who are willing to help when you need them.
Try to get to know at least some of your teachers beyond your classroom communication. Be an active learner during class and stay after class to ask questions. Take advantage of email or class messaging systems. The better your teachers know you, the better prepared they’ll be to help when you need them.
It’s important for you to keep in mind as you start high school that no one is perfect. Transitions are hard for everyone, and starting high school is a big transition. Actually, these challenges provide a great and suitable chance to reinvent yourself.
5.In the author’s view, what’s the biggest difference between high school and middle school
A.Different relationships. B.The higher expectations.
C.High academic achievements. D.The higher pressure.
6.Which of the following suggestions is not mentioned in the text
A.Careful schedules. B.Healthy relationships.
C.Using network information. D.Reinventing yourself.
7.Who is the article written for
A.Students in junior high school.
B.Teachers in senior high school.
C.Students in Grade Ten.
D.Parents of senior high school students.
8.What is the best title for the text
A.How to Meet Your Teacher’s High Expectations
B.How to Become an Active Learner in High School
C.What to Prepare to Keep Up with Everything in High School
D.How to Get Through the Transition of the Freshman Year of High School

recommend doing sth.
there be sth. to do 故填to explore。
take responsibility for为固定搭配,表示“对……
be well prepared for为固定搭配,意为“为……
be surprised to do sth.
be friendly to sb.
not only...but (also)...
根据前面的most often可知时态为一般现在时,且we为复数意义,故填are held。
【高频词汇】 1.under pressure 承受压力 2.make sure确保 3.perfect adj.
5.chapter n.篇章 6.limitation n.限制
长难句
原句 You may put yourself under pressure to make sure that everything is perfect for that day, but I want you to know there’s no such thing as a perfect day.
there’s no such thing as...
Ⅲ. A
根据第三段第二句“The three other girls and I gave up...on the project.”
根据第三段中的关键信息“challenged my design”“discouraged me from time to time”和“found her to be a person with strong opinions and organizing abilities”可知,虽然琳达会质疑作者的设计,让作者感到不安,但作者并没有对她印象不佳,反而慢慢发现了她的优点。
故选A。
【高频词汇】 1.get familiar with...
2.leadership n.领导;领导才能 3.from time to time 有时 4.relieved adj. 5.a strong sense of group honor 强烈的集体荣誉感 6.qualified adj.
2.have butterflies in one’s stomach
When the work was done, our teacher said that no matter what the result might be, our efforts were the most important.
When引导时间状语从句;said后的that引导宾语从句;no matter what引导让步状语从句。
根据第三段第二句中的“to make sure that you have organized schedules in place(确保你准备好了有条理的日程安排)”可知,高一新生需要有周密的日程安排,可排除A项;根据第四段第三句中的“Keeping healthy relationships with your friends and teachers(与你的朋友和老师保持健康的关系)”可排除B项;由第五段第三句“Take advantage of email or class messaging systems.(利用电子邮件或课堂信息系统。)”
【高频词汇】 1.go through经历 2.keep track of...了解……的情况/动态 3.check up on...
4.participate in参加 5.keep up with跟上;与……保持同步 6.make sure确保 7.keep in mind that...
1 One way to prepare in advance for these higher expectations is to make sure that you have organized schedules in place before you start high school.
to prepare in advance for these higher expectations作后置定语修饰名词 way,to make sure...
2 Keeping healthy relationships with your friends and teachers is a great way to make sure that you have people who are willing to help when you need them.
Keeping healthy relationships with your friends and teachers作主语,that引导宾语从句,作make sure的宾语,who引导定语从句,修饰先行词people, when引导时间状语从句。
