Kayla was a girl 1 always wanted to be like those slim girls on TV, even though she knew it was just a dream. She worried about her weight and tried every new diet she read about online, such as no-fat, low-fat, 5∶2, only bananas, no bananas, and she almost 2 (go)crazy.
Then one day in an article, she saw the words “Instead of asking ‘Am I fat ’, I should be asking ‘Am I fit ’”, which made much difference to her. Once she started thinking about 3 (fit) rather than weight, the changes began. Instead of saying “I want to lose three kilos”, she would say “I want to run two kilometers in eight minutes” 4 “I want to be able to do 30 push-ups”. Rather than cutting out her favorite foods, she added healthy foods 5 her meals. For example, she could still have a burger sometimes, but she added a salad or an apple. Finally, Kayla stopped 6 (compare) herself with those actresses and models. Instead, she thought 7 (positive) about 8 (she) and her body through making 9 list of the things she liked about herself. She became both happier and 10 (healthy).

Do you want to go to play basketball, soccer or badminton in between hitting the books Doctors are starting to find more and more information that suggests a connection between exercise and brain development.
Judy Cameron, a scientist at Oregon Health & Science University, studies brain development. According to her research, it seems that exercise can make blood vessels (血管), including those in the brain, stronger and more fully develop. Dr. Cameron is sure that this allows people who exercise to think better. As she says, “While we already know that exercise is good for the heart, exercise can actually cause physical changes in the brain.”
The effects of exercise on brain development can even be seen in babies. Babies who often do activities show greater brain development than babies who are less physically active. Even a little movement can show big results. Margaret Barnes, a scientist, also believes in the importance of exercise. She thinks that many learning disabilities that children have in primary school or high school can result from a lack of movement in babyhood.
Older people can develop their brains as well. Cornell University studied a group of seniors who had a short-term memory increase of up to 40 percent after exercising just three hours a week. Also, exercise for older people should not be too simple. Learning some new skills or actions, such as yoga or tai chi in the gym, helps to open up memory paths in the brain that may not have been used for a long time. For most people, any type of physical activity that increases the heart rate is helpful. The main goal is to increase the brain’s flow of blood. And your brain can benefit from as little as two to three hours of exercise a week.

Brain breaks are short, physical activities that, when placed in periods of study, can help improve students’ attention, efficiency, enjoyment and creativity. 1 . You can just do a set of jumping jacks(跳跃运动) or high knees before going back to schoolwork—at home or at school.
In the classroom, teachers might use brain breaks from kids’ fitness programs like GoNoodle or HOPSports. These short physical activities, which are often set in cheerful music, encourage kids to move around and reset their brains so that they can better concentrate on their study. 2 . Periodic bursts of exercise can reduce stress and school-related frustration(沮丧), clearing the way back to learning.
At home, you can use brain breaks in much the same way as teachers do. If your child is struggling with homework, whether this is due to trying to understand challenging material or simply staying on a task, have them do one or two of these activities. They’re a simple way to fight frustration and boredom while improving attention. 3 .
Research shows that shorter breaks are more effective for many kids, with younger kids maxing out(达到最高限度)after about 10 minutes and older kids up to a half hour or more. 4 . So choose the brain break timing according to your child’s specific needs, attention span, and learning style. And create a reliable schedule with timed activities that won’t take up too much time meant for study.
5 . Make it clear to your kid how long the brain breaks and schoolwork will last. This system gives your child structure(周密安排) and can make study and doing activities more fun and exciting.
A.Tell your child in advance
B.These breaks can be very simple
C.But the right balance will differ among kids
D.Plus they can help meet your child’s daily need for physical activities
E.For some kids, it’s easy to become addicted and try to avoid returning to their tasks
F.School-based brain break programs often use videos to set the scene for students
G.Besides the physical advantages, brain breaks are good for kids’ mental health

be positive about...
in honour of... 故填in。
now and then意为“有时,偶尔”。故填and。
故填out。
compete in... 故填in。
第一空位于giving up后面,应用动名词形式,give up doing sth.
10.with/to 考查介词。 compared with/to... 故填with或to。
Ⅳ.1.made a difference to/in 2.even if/even though we lost the game/match/competition 3.rather than pairing/pair 4.No;don’t
Ⅰ.1.who/that 考查定语从句。
由and前面的分句中的“worried about her weight and tried every new diet”可知这里应用一般过去时,故填went。
或……”,故填or。
add sth. to sth.
stop doing sth.
stop to do sth.
forget to do sth.
forget doing sth.
remember to do sth.
remember doing sth.
make a list of...
take responsibility for...
故填is considered。
提示词need与前面的“proper amounts of vitamins, proteins and minerals”为被动关系,故用过去分词作后置定语。
play an important role in... 故填an。
be likely to do sth. 故填to smoke。
argue with... 故填with。
故填is。

Para.1
Para.3
Para.4
Cameron is sure that this allows people who exercise to think better.”
根据最后一段第四句“Learning some new skills or actions, such as yoga or tai chi in the gym, helps to open up memory paths in the brain that may not have been used for a long time.”
根据最后一段倒数第二、三句“For most people, any type of physical activity that increases the heart rate is helpful. The main goal is to increase the brain’s flow of blood.” 故选A。
【高频词汇】 1.in between在……
Learning some new skills or actions, such as yoga or tai chi in the gym, helps to open up memory paths in the brain that may not have been used for a long time.
Learning some new skills or actions作主语,helps为主句谓语;关系代词that引导一个限制性定语从句且在从句中作主语,修饰先行词memory paths。
上文介绍了什么是大脑休息,下文列举了跳跃运动和高膝运动,B项中的These breaks指代首句中的Brain breaks,simple与下文中的“You can just do”呼应。
G项中的mental health与下文中的“reduce stress and school-related frustration”呼应。
D项中的your child’s与本段第二句中的your child呼应。
C项中的“differ among kids”与下文中的“according to your child’s specific needs...”
5.A 主旨句。 A项中的Tell与下文中的“Make it clear”呼应。
有效的 6.up to至多有 7.reliable adj. 时间表 9.take up占用 10.in advance提前
Brain breaks are short, physical activities that, when placed in periods of study, can help improve students’ attention, efficiency, enjoyment and creativity.
主句为“Brain breaks are short, physical activities”;that引导定语从句,修饰先行词activities;when引导省略主语和be动词的时间状语从句。
