A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet, I was determined to go ahead.
I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn’t do either well. He later informed me that I was “not an athletic person”.
The idea that I was “not an athletic person” stuck in my mind for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, and not about competition or whether or not I was an athletic person. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills!
The night before my marathon, I dreamt that I couldn’t even find the finish line. I woke up sweaty and nervous, but was ready to prove something to myself.
Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoelaces(鞋带) became undone. So I stopped to readjust them. Not the start I wanted!
At mile 3, I passed a sign: “GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!”
By mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I tried hard to stay the course, walking a bit and then running again.
By mile 21, I was starving!
As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan.
She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running.
I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the guy who finished in first place.
Determined to be myself, move forward, and be free of shame and worldly labels(世俗标签), I can now call myself a “marathon winner”.

Since the 1980s, Special Olympics Unified Sports has created chances for many middle and high school students that they didn’t have before then. Young athletes with intellectual (智力的) and physical disabilities (缺陷) who played in the Special Olympics could now play on middle and high school teams. More than 1.6 million Unified teammates now compete in more than 30 sports around the world. Unified athletes train and play with Unified student partners.
ConVal Regional High School has two Unified Sports programs: basketball and soccer. Kevin, a ConVal Unified basketball coach, understands the influence that these teams have on the athletes. “Unified Sports has the same influence on the athletes as all the other varsity (大学的) sports,” he says. “It builds their personalities, helps build sports skills, confidence and teamwork, and gives them the honor of playing for their school. Days of playing high school sports will be long remembered by the athletes as years go by.”
Unified Sports can be considered varsity sports, but there are no tryouts, and the spirit around both teams is always positive and encouraging.
Steve Erdody has coached Unified basketball for 10 years. “My goal is always to make it a positive experience every time, whether it is a practice or game, and that goes for opponents (对手) too. We try to get every athlete on our team to score in each game, as well as helping the athletes on the other team score.”
Andres Torugee, a recent ConVal graduate, played on both the Unified soccer and Unified basketball teams. “If you are considering joining a Unified sport, you should go for it because it is so much fun playing soccer and basketball and the coaches are really good and funny too,” Torugee said. “Unified Sports taught me to play as a team and to share the ball with my teammates. It was a great way to make friends.”

Trainers and parents saw children play sports at a young age and then saw them become professional. Many correlated the training with petitive sports are good for young children because they teach children life skills, provide health benefits, and offer special opportunities.
To begin with, sports teach children life skills. A formal athlete stated, “I played soccer in high school and college and found team sports aren’t just about winning, but also about developing a solid ethic(行为准则), and learning why that’s important.” In short, playing highly competitive sports teaches kids many life skills like teamwork. People will have to use teamwork for the rest of their life, and sports can help them improve that skill. Taking part in sports can help develop a positive attitude towards life, which will help in the long run.
Sports are also good for kids because they provide health benefits. It is healthier for a kid to play a sport competitively than to waste time playing video games all day. Furthermore, a research group of the University of California said, “96 percent of the participants(参与者) enjoy their sports. They’re all loving life.” That is to say, kids playing highly competitive sports tend to enjoy life instead of doing something else like watching TV.
On the other hand, some people might argue that competitive sports are bad for young children because they are so time-consuming. However, the time spent is not “robbing” kids of their childhood, but offering unique opportunities. Athletes can get success to live their dream life by playing sports. Even though sports are time-consuming, they offer distinctive opportunities.
In conclusion, competitive sports are good for children because they can provide wholesome benefits, create new experiences, and build skills that will last a lifetime.
32.Why is the formal athlete mentioned in paragraph 2
A.To show a reason. B.To give an example.
C.To create a background. D.To introduce a new point.
33.What is most participants’ attitude to sports

35.What does the text mainly talk about

John was crazy about playing basketball. Every day after school, he would spend much time practicing basketball skills. Sometimes, he didn’t go back home until sunset(日落), which made his mother extremely angry. One day, he was given a chance to watch a basketball game, and then he dreamed about being a member of the college basketball team the next year. On the way, he was delighted. He thought no one in the world was luckier than him. Suddenly, a car hit him. What a terrible experience! It seemed like a bad dream.
John woke up in a hospital room. He was frightened to death. He realized that he couldn’t move both of his legs. At that time, the doctor came in. When the doctor told him that both his legs were broken and that he had to sit in the wheelchair for the time being, he knew his college basketball dream was over. He was really depressed. John followed what the doctors had told him, but it did not work entirely. When he left the hospital, he would be sent to a health recovery center. He had never heard of this center before, but it was not far away from his house. Although he felt unwilling to go there, he had no choice but to accept the fact.
A week later, he arrived there unhappily. The first person he met was Sunny Chen, who was so kind and friendly that he warmly welcomed John. Sunny’s legs were badly hurt in a skating accident. He told John that he would help him recover soon. Though Sunny couldn’t move his legs, he became the coach of a basketball team called the Suns. After a period of recovery training, John felt his legs were all right. So Sunny invited him to join in the coming game where Sunny guided the team in his wheelchair. John played badly, but for the first time since the accident, he stopped feeling sorry for himself.
John was glad that his dream of being a member of a basketball team came true.

故选A。
49.D 根据上文“All I knew about Zumba was that it was basically...”
50.A one’s cup of tea意为“某人钟爱的事物”。故选A。
51.C 根据文章第一句中的“due to my fear of sports”可知,此处指教练的话消除了作者对体育运动的恐惧(fear)。故选C。
52.A 根据上文教练的话和下文“I didn’t even have to be good.” 故选A。
53.B 根据教练的话“Don’t worry about the steps. Have fun. Do your own thing.”
54.D 根据“and it also did so much more”可知,前面讲的是尊巴舞的一个好处,故这里指尊巴舞挽救(save)了作者,使其避免了增重15磅。故选D。
55.C make peace with为固定短语,意为“与…… 此处与第一段中的“Exercise and I had never had a good relationship”呼应,故选C。
57.to take 考查不定式。
故填has。
将先行词代入定语从句为you don’t mind the clothes (get) covered in mud。mind sb./sth. doing sth.
65.that/which 考查定语从句。
One possible version:
Sports and Fitness Week
To raise our awareness of the importance of fitness, a “Sports and Fitness Week” was organized in our school last week, in which all the students took an active part.
Some girls, who normally have no interest in any sports, skipped rope and had great fun. Some students practiced dancing, boosting their confidence at the same time. What was the most exciting was the football match, for which players made full preparations.
All the participants benefited a lot from the activity, both physically and mentally. They all expressed a firm belief that they would continue working out regularly to build up their bodies.
第二节
One possible version:
John was glad that his dream of being a member of a basketball team came true. Basketball was like medicine for him. John was much better and more confident than before. John practiced hard to improve himself. He was always the first to come to the court, and the last to go back home. Although it was not easy for him to play and he did badly at first, he never thought about giving up. He was a boy with a strong mind.
Sunny saw all John did, lost in thought. He could not help praising John for his courage and love for basketball. There are many ups and downs in life. No one knows what will happen. However, as long as there is love and hope in our hearts, nothing can stop us from achieving what we desire. As a matter of fact, what we should do is stick to the dreams and fight to the end.
