定语从句
在复合句中作定语的句子叫做定语从句。定语从句修饰名词或代词,且限定和说明谈论的是具体哪一个人或者哪一个物体。被定语从句修饰的名词或代词叫先行词,引导定语从句的连接词叫关系词。引导定语从句的关系词有who,that,which等。
一、引导定语从句的关系词的用法
1.关系词的作用:
a.连接作用,引导定语从句;b.代替先行词;c.在定语从句中担当一个成分。
2.关系词which
代替“物”的先行词,在从句中既可作主语又可作宾语。
如:It successfully shows the rich culture which makes Beijing so famous.
which代替先行词culture (物,在从句中作主语)
The photo which we liked best in the Historical China group was taken by Zhao Min.
which代替先行词 photo (物,在从句中作宾语)
3.关系词who
代替“人”的先行词,在从句中既可作主语又可作宾语。
如:He’s the photographer who won the photo competition last time.

4.关系词that
代替“人”和“物”的先行词,在从句中既可作主语又可作宾语。

注意
关系代词在从句中作宾语时可以省略。
二、必须用that引导定语从句的几种情况
1.先行词是不定代词all,few,little,much,everything,nothing,anything,none等。
如:You must watch carefully everything that the teacher does in class.
Is there anything that you want to buy in this shop?
2.先行词被序数词或形容词最高级所修饰,或本身是序数词、基数词、形容词最高级时。
如:This is one of the most exciting football games that I have ever seen.
The first English novel that I read was Robinson Crusoe.
3.先行词被all,any,every,each,few,little,no,some等不定代词修饰时。
如:He decides to read all the books that are written by Mark Twain.
I have eaten some snacks that you gave me.
4.先行词被the only,the very,the same,the last修饰时。
如:He is the only man that I can find for the work.
He is the very person that we are looking for.
5.当并列的两个先行词分别表示人和物时。
如:He talked about the teachers and schools that he had visited.

6.在以which 和who开头的特殊疑问句中,为避免重复。
