Urban gardens are valuable assets to communities. They provide green spaces to grow sustainable food, build community cohesion(凝聚力), make new friends, connect with the earth, and much more. So, let s check out our list of four inspiring urban gardens in the US.
Gotham Greens
Where: New York & Chicago
What: Gotham Greens first started in Brooklyn and now has four locations in New York City and Chicago. Their flagship farm in Brooklyn produces over 100,000 pounds of greens per year. ReVision Urban Farm
Where: Boston, Massachusetts
What: ReVision Urban Farm in Boston works in partnership with the ReVision Family Home—a shelter for 22 homeless parents and their kids. Peru is famously known as “Land of the Incas”. A trip to Peru has been on my wish list for quite a while. It was finally time for me to visit the country.
My first day started in Lima, the capital of Peru. I met with the G Adventures representative(代表)here about the tour. G Adventures is an organization that helps you to connect with other like-minded people in small group-based travel adventures. They played a big part in helping to make Peru an unforgettable experience for me! In Lima, my representative discussed the plan of my tour, and I also had the chance to explore Lima in my own time, with many activities, including a city tour, show, biking tour, and more.
Day two had me taking a flight from Lima to Cusco. Many people visit Cusco for shopping but for me, the main reason for spending a day or two in Cusco was to acclimatize(适应) to the altitude(海拔). As I d decided to reach the wonder of Machu Picchu, acclimatizing became important to avoid altitude sickness. I was happy to spend a day exploring Cusco. Cusco was once the capital of the Inca Empire. Today, it s famous for its artists, paintings, clothing and traditional instruments. There s something for everyone in this city.
The day finally came! Day three had me enjoying a lovely guided visit to Machu Picchu at sunrise. I had free time to explore the city on my own as well as with my guide. It was a lot to take in! I had to stop for a moment and felt the energy of such an ancient city. The history here was unbelievable and I will never forget my time here for as long as I live!
24.What is the author s attitude to G Adventures
A.Doubtful. B.Satisfied.
C.Uninterested. D.Hopeful.
25.Why did the author stay in Cusco
A.To go shopping.
B.To find a local guide.
C.To get used to the high altitude.
D.To do research about the Inca Empire.
26.How did the author feel when traveling around Machu Picchu
A.Full of excitement. B.Out of luck.
C.Lost in doubt. D.Deep in regret.
27.What is the best title for the text
A.My love of traveling
B.My wonderful trip to Peru
C.Peru: “Land of the Incas”
D.Traveling: the future of Peru

There are few places on Earth that humans haven t messed up. Now even Antarctica, the only continent with no permanent human inhabitants, is being altered by us. A study found that the increasing human presence in Antarctica is causing more snow melting—bad news for a frozen world already battling the effects of human-caused global warming.
Black carbon, the dark, dusty pollution that comes from burning fossil fuels, has settled in locations where tourists and researchers spend a lot of time, scientists found. Even the smallest amount of the dark pollutant can have a significant impact on melting because of its very low reflectivity: things that are light in color, like snow, reflect the sun s energy and stay cool; things that are dark, like black carbon, absorb the sun s energy and warm up.
“The snow albedo(反射率) effect is one of the largest uncertainties in regional and global climate modeling right now,” Alia Khan, a snow and ice scientist at Western Washington University, told CNN. “That s one of the motivations for the study, to quantify the impact of black carbon on regional snow melting, which is important for quantifying the role of black carbon in the global loss of snow and ice.”
“Antarctica is sitting there pretty much silently all year. But, if it weren t there, in the state that it is meant to be, the balance that we have in the climate system would no longer exist,” Marilyn Raphael, a geography professor said. “Antarctica s sea ice is also important to maintain a balance in atmospheric circulation,” he added. As waters get warmer, some Antarctic creatures are finding their homes more and more unlivable.
“Everything we do has consequences,” Raphael said. “We need to educate ourselves about those consequences, especially in systems that we know relatively little about. We have to be careful that we don t upset the climate balance.”
28.Why can the smallest amount of black carbon have a huge impact on melting
A.It is highly reflective.
B.Its dark colour absorbs heat.
C.It produces vast energy.
D.It causes much pollution.
29.According to Alia, which of the following is one reason for conducting the study
A.To measure the impact of black carbon on melting.
B.To quantify the cost of battling against climate change.
C.To remove the uncertainties of global warming effects.
D.To urge people to pay more attention to the melting problem.
30.What is the fourth paragraph mainly about
A.The change caused by the Antarctic ice melting.
B.The methods to stop the Antarctic ice melting.
C.The significance of the Antarctic being in its normal state.
D.The sufferings Antarctic creatures are experiencing.
31.What did Raphael advise people to do
A.Reduce tourist numbers.
B.Face the consequences.
C.Acquire professional education.
D.Stop disturbing the climate.

Tall, long-necked giraffes are famous for their spots which are believed to help the animals hide from their enemies. Just like no two humans have the same fingerprints, each giraffe has its own special pattern of spots. However, a zoo in Tennessee made the headlines recently after it welcomed one of the world s most uncommon giraffes.
On July 31, a baby giraffe was born at Brights Zoo with light brown fur which is a reticulated(网状的) giraffe, one of the four different kinds of giraffes. Unlike most giraffes, she was born without spots, a unique feature of the reticulated giraffe. About six feet tall, this baby giraffe is growing well under her mother s care. She shows typical baby giraffe behavior, such as eating rocks.
Experts said the young giraffe was the only single-colored reticulated giraffe living anywhere on the planet. The last time this happened was 1972 in Japan. A giraffe s pattern of spots is created when the animal is still growing inside its mother. That means that this giraffe will never have spots.
“The new giraffe might not have survived if she had been born in the wild. Being single-colored, she may not be able to hide quite as well,” said Mr. David Bright, who runs the zoo. “She will easily be a key target for poachers(偷猎者) because she s so unusual.”
Brights Zoo stressed that reticulated giraffes had already become imperiled. In 2018, they were officially listed as “threatened”. Thirty-five years ago, there were 36,000 reticulated giraffes. Now, the number has been cut by more than 50%. Only about 16,000 reticulated giraffes remain.
This brown giraffe s birth is not only a rare and fascinating event, but also an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges faced by giraffes in the wild. By supporting efforts like this, we can contribute to the conservation of these large creatures and ensure their survival for generations to come.
32.What do we know about the spots of giraffes
A.They help protect giraffes.
B.They are the same pattern.
C.They look like giraffes footprints.
D.They appear on giraffes occasionally.
33.What makes the young giraffe born at Brights Zoo special
A.Its extremely large size.
B.Its light brown fur.
C.Its unusual eating habit.
D.Its absence of spots.
34.What does the underlined word “imperiled” mean in Paragraph 5
A.Recognized. B.Endangered.
C.Doubled. D.Balanced.
35.Which word can best describe the birth of the young giraffe

C.Awkward. D.Foreseeable.

My sister Priscilla and I just came back from a week-long vacation in Portugal with lots of photos. I ll remember so many wonderful things about my trip to the cities of Lisbon and Porto, but one experience in particular sticks out, something that happened on our last night in Lisbon.
Before the trip, I put together a very detailed route of places to see. One of the must-visit places on my list was Livraria do Sim o, the smallest bookstore in Lisbon. On our very first day in Lisbon, Priscilla and I searched for it. We found the oldest bookstore in the world. But the smallest one was impossible to find! Back at the hotel, where we had Wi-Fi, I looked the bookstore up again, hoping we d have time to find it on another day. But our schedule was delayed, and we probably wouldn t have time to look for it.
On our last full day in Lisbon, Priscilla and I took a day trip to Cascais, a coastal town outside the city. We decided, at the last minute, to visit a historic flea market(跳蚤市场). We walked for about an hour, up many steep hills. When we finally reached the market, completely out of breath, all the sellers were closing up. We were both tired and hungry. Priscilla and I argued over the directions. I insisted that we turn right, which ended up being another decision. We climbed up more steep hills, farther and farther away from any area we recognized. We made another right turn into a random street and Priscilla stopped to check the map. Meanwhile, I looked up at the street sign, Rua da Madalena. I d heard that name before. We continued a little farther up the street, and I spotted a few people hanging out in a lane. There was something particularly familiar about the scene. I looked closer. There was a small store practically hidden in the lane. It had books in its windows.
Oh my goodness! The bookstore!

Soon, it was time for us to say goodbye.

根据第一段第一句“Tall, long-necked giraffes are famous for their spots which are believed to help the animals hide from their enemies.”
根据第二段第二句“Unlike most giraffes, she was born without spots, a unique feature of the reticulated giraffe.”
故选A。

One possible version:
Dear schoolmates,
International Day for Biological Diversity is on 22nd, May every year. Now I am writing to appeal for your cooperation in conservation of creatures in the world.
It is reported that lots of rare animals and plants are in danger of extinction. The key reason is that we human beings are always polluting the environment and destroying forests. To save the world s creatures, we should do our bit to advertise low-carbon life and avoid giving out greenhouse gases and littering around.
Here, we sincerely advocate that we go to school on foot or by bike as much as possible. Furthermore, we d better make sure more people are informed of the danger of creatures extinction.

第二节
One possible version:
Oh my goodness! The bookstore! The very one I d so badly wanted to find on our very first day in Lisbon. I took lots of photos of it with my phone in amazement. My delight must have been noticeable because one of the guys standing outside the store started telling me that it s the smallest bookstore in the world! He was the owner of the bookstore. He led us inside the bookstore, which was no bigger than a walk-in closet. There was a desk at one end and shelves lined with books all round.
Soon,it was time for us to say goodbye. I couldn t stop smiling. We hadn t just visited the smallest bookstore in Lisbon. We had met the owner and taken a tour inside! If we hadn t decided to visit the flea market at the last minute, if I hadn t insisted that we turn right, if we hadn t got lost...That moment in Lisbon wasn t just a coincidence to me. It was a reminder that when you lose your way, don t lose heart.
