Wind power is a very clean source of energy (能源). This is how wind power works. Wind makes windmills spin. When the windmills spin, they make electricity (电). Then we can use the electricity. A lot of people think that wind power is new, but that’s not true. For thousands of years, people have used wind to sail boats and move water. We still do those things today, but these days we mostly use wind power to make electricity.
Wind power is a very popular source of energy. Most people think that we should use it more and more. First of all, it’s clean. Windmills don’t pollute the environment at all. Second, we can use wind power forever. After all, we will always have wind. Also, wind power is cheap, and it’s getting even cheaper.
A lot of people don’t understand wind power very well. They believe that there are problems with wind power, but many of those problems are not real. For example, some people say that windmills are dangerous for birds. They used to be true, but it isn’t true anymore. Old windmills killed birds because they spun very fast. New windmills spin slowly, and they aren’t dangerous for birds.
However, there are real problems with windmills. One problem is that many people think windmills are very ugly. Also, wind doesn’t blow all the time, so we can’t use wind power all the time. Finally, windmills are noisy. But wind power is becoming more and more common. Right now, more than 80 countries use wind power. About 2.5 percent of the world’s power comes from the wind.
( )1. People started using wind power ________.
A. about 25 years ago B. about 80 years ago
C. about 500 years ago D. over 1,000 years ago
( )2. What does the underlined word “spin” mean in Chinese
A.发电 B.旋转
C.跳动 D.加速
( )3. We can’t use wind power all the time because ________.
A. windmills break all the time
B. wind doesn’t blow all the time
C. we can’t use windmills at night
D. windmills are too expensive to use all the time
( )4. We can learn from the passage that ________.
A. wind power’s getting cheaper
B. most people don’t like wind power
C. new windmills can hurt or kill birds.
D. there are no problems about wind power
( )5. The best title for the passage can be ________.
A. New and Useful Energy B. Expensive Windmills
C. Popular and Clean Wind Power D. Dangerous Birds

Wang Huajun, a taxi driver from Hubei Province, has been on call for a special passenger(乘客) for 18 years, and he drives her anywhere she needs to go.
According to Wang, he got to know the passenger in March 2000. That day he saw a small woman on crutches(拐杖) and a white-haired elderly woman waiting for a taxi. Wang stopped and helped the two into his taxi. He learnt that the small woman's name is Yang Lihua and she has had rickets(佝偻病) since she was 4 years old. That day she was taking her mother to the hospital.
When they arrived at the hospital, Wang refused the money they wanted to pay him for the ride. Instead, he gave Yang his phone number and told her to call him whenever she needed help.
Wang kept his word. For 18 years he has provided Yang and her family with transportation, whenever they have the need. He also helps them with other small things.
“For us, he is a family member now,” Yang said, adding that through his kindness, Wang has won the family's trust.
Few people knew what Wang was doing until 2008 when Yang presented(赠送) him with a silk banner(锦旗)—a traditional way to express thankfulness— at the taxi company where he worked.
This is just one of the driver's many acts of kindness. In his 19 years of driving a taxi, he has returned the money he found to his passengers 12 times, which was a total of 350,000 yuan.
Wang is a role model to us all.

Everyone is born with the ability to learn. But whether you can do this well depends on your learning habits. Research shows that successful learners have some good habits in common.
Creating an interest in what they learn.
Studies show that if you are interested in something, your brain is more active and it is also easier for you to pay attention to it for a long time. 1 For example, if they need to learn English and they like music or sports, they can listen to English songs or watch sports programs in English. This way they will not get bored.
2
“Practice makes perfect.” Good learners will keep practicing what they have learned, and they are not afraid of making mistakes. Alexander Graham Bell did not invent (发明) the telephone overnight. He succeeded by trying many times and learning from his mistakes.
Developing their study skills.
It is not enough to just study hard. 3 For example, they may take notes by writing down key words or by drawing mind maps. They also look for ways to review what they have learned. They may do this by reading their notes every day or by explaining the information to another student.
Asking questions.
4 They even ask each other and try to find out the answers. Knowledge comes from questioning.
Learning is a lifelong journey because every day brings something new. Everything that you learn becomes a part of you and changes you. 5
Don’t be afraid of failure.
Practising and learning from mistakes.
Good learners know the best way they can study.
Good learners often ask questions during or after class.
Good learners can always find interesting ways to learn.
