Unit 1 My name’s Gina
Section A 1a-1c
Good morning, all of the teachers in the class. My name is....I am very happy and excited to stand here. It is my great honor to share my teaching design with you. Today I am going to talk about the new lesson:My name’s Gina. I divide it into 5 parts.
Now first,I will analyze the teaching materials and students. The topic of this unit is about introducing yourself and greeting people, which is taken from PEP English book, Grade 7, unit 1. The main language function is to practice listening and speaking as well as the communicative skills. The study tasks are:how to introduce yourself and greet people. If the students can grasp the knowledge of this section. It will lay a good foundation for the rest part of this unit.
Our students are in grade 7. They are active, curious and interested in new things. After learning English in primary school, they have some basic English knowledge, so I will attach importance to the communication with them, providing them the chances of using language.
Based on the analysis above, the teaching aims are as follows.
Knowledge aims: Students can master the new words, phrases and sentences, for example: nice, name, meet, your, his, her, she, he, nice to meet you ,what’s your name, and so on.
Ability aims: Students can improve their abilities on listening and speaking. Be able to introduce themselves and greet people.
Emotional aims: Students should know how to greet people and make friends with others.
By the analysis above, I set the key and difficult points as follows.
For the key points, Students can grasp the new words and sentences, while the difficult points is to use the sentences “what’s your/his/her name ” and be able to answer.
The next part is teaching and learning methods. Referring to ss physical and psychological characteristics, I will use task-based teaching method, communicative teaching method. For learning method, ss can learn by pair work and group work.
Now, let’s come to the more important part, teaching procedures, I divide it into 6 steps.
Step 1Warming up and revision
Listen and sing a Hello song.
Review the new words, Students can find English words for the things in the picture. For example:map,clock,basketball...
The purpose of this is to make ss feel relaxing and review the knowledge.
Step 2 Presentation
Show the picture of 1a and ask students how to greet each other.
Show some pictures about introduction and greeting, help ss to introduce and greet.
T: What’s your name
S:I’m Linda./My name’s Linda./Linda.
Students practice with their classmates.
According to students’ practice, let ss talk about how to ask others’ name and finish the sentences.
---What’s his name
---His name is Wang Jun Kai./He is Wang Jun Kai.
Look at the pictures and guess what’s his/her name.
The purpose of this part to practice student’s ability on speaking and learn to introduce yourself and greet people.
Step 3 Practise
Listen and number the conversations.(1b)
Pay attention to:what's=what is;I'm=I am;name's=name is
Do pair work(lc)
T:Now look at the conversation in 1b and practice your own conversation.
Group work
Let’s play a game between group teams. I will divide ss into 8 groups, and they have to make conversations by using “what’s your/his/her name , My/His/Her name’s...”,which group can speak quickly and correctly, they will become winners and get some prizes.
The purpose is to practice their abilities on listening, speaking and communication.
Step 4 Exercise and Summary
Let students do some exercises and check the answers by themselves.
Students make s summary what they have learned about this lesson.
The purpose is to check students’ knowledge and ability about introduction and greeting.
Step 5 Homework
Read and copy new words.
Read the conversations of 1b
Step 6 Blackboard Design
