(2024江苏连云港高级中学月考)
I study English literature at university and have always been fascinated by Britain’s literary heritage(文学遗产). Some British authors that you may have heard of are Charles Dickens and Jane Austen. These writers are famous all over the world because their books have been translated into many different languages. In the UK, their novels are celebrated as some of the best that have ever been written. We say that these novels are “classic” because they are still read and enjoyed years after their publication.
I read classic novels not only because they are part of my university lessons but also because I enjoy them. They can teach you a lot about how people used to live and what society was like in the past. Novels like Hard Times by Charles Dickens remind us of the poverty in London during the Industrial Revolution while Jane Austen’s fiction shows us what family life was like in the 19th century.
Classic novels usually have memorable stories and interesting characters. One of my favourite books is Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. It is about a boy called Pip who suddenly receives a lot of money from a mysterious supporter. As he grows up, his character changes: he becomes quite selfish and mean. Another important character is Miss Havisham. When she was young, her fiancé ran away on their wedding day. She lives in a dark house and still wears her wedding dress. She is a fascinating character, both sad and scary.
Reading classic novels enriches my knowledge and life experience. And it has become a part of life.
1.Why are some novels called “classic”
A.They stand the test of time.
B.They are taught at universities.

3.What can we know about the character Miss Havisham
A.She is selfish and mean. B.She lives an unhappy life.
C.She loves wedding dresses most. D.She becomes rich with others’ support.

A.Why I like classic novels B.Why some novels are classic
C.How to read classic novels D.How to teach classic novels

(2023浙江阶段练习)
Every year, most people set goals for themselves to read a certain number of books. 1 . They can make you think deeply, teach you more about your field, sharpen your skills, and generally just help you grow to the next level. Whatever your field or interests might be, it’s extremely important to develop a habit of reading beyond your horizons. 2 .
Determine your reading goal
In order to develop a reading habit, it’s important to start off by setting a goal. 3 . When you find concrete reasons and a purpose attached to your goal, you’ll be more motivated to keep pushing and achieve it.
4
Once you’re done with setting your reading goal, you’ll need a list to back it up. Write out a list of the amazing books you want to read. A reading list will help you stay organized. Take it a step further by creating a log attached to that list, including the start and finish dates, key notes or lessons. A list and log with notes about your thoughts will encourage you to look through them months later, just in case you need some inspiration at some point.
Set reading time
5 . Put away distractions such as the TV and other things that may affect your reading time. Reading for at least 30-40 minutes a day is a great start and will help you develop a concrete reading habit as you’ll always look forward to having your “me time” that supports your reading goals.
In order to truly achieve your reading goals, you’ll need to be hungry to grow beyond your comfort zone.
A.Make a list of books
B.Invest in tools that encourage reading
C.Be determined to make it an enjoyable process
D.There are numerous benefits of reading good books
E.This goal should be clear and backed up by a purpose
