Every American family has its own traditions on Thanksgiving Day, and mine is no different. Once the national holiday arrives, my mum rises early to make the meal. She puts a turkey in the oven, chops carrots and bakes pies. I’m sorry to say that the men in the family—my dad, my younger brother and myself—rarely pitch in. Our job is to wash the mountain of dirty dishes after the meal is over.
Around 2 pm every Thanksgiving Day, family members seat themselves around the kitchen table. Plates of turkey, vegetables, salad, rolls and pies cover it. At this point, we can hardly keep ourselves from drooling(流口水) all over our fancy clothes, but it’s not yet time to eat.
First, we must bow our heads, close our eyes and say a prayer of thanks aloud to God for giving us everything we have. Under normal circumstances, I would have no problem making a list of things I am thankful for. I grew up in a loving family. My parents, who aren’t wealthy, took out loans to help me pay for university.
However, the funny thing is, every time I sit down for Thanksgiving dinner and try to say a prayer of thanks, my mind usually goes blank. I think it has something to do with my rumbling(咕咕叫) stomach and all of that food sitting right there under my nose.
Eventually, though, we all finish our short prayers and dig in. To be sure, the day includes other highlights—visiting with family and watching football. But usually around 6 pm we are all ourselves stuffed like turkeys and thankful to have a nice warm bed to sleep in.
28.What is the purpose of the text
A.To tell what the family does for Thanksgiving Day.
B.To tell how the family spends Thanksgiving Day.
C.To introduce foods served on Thanksgiving Day.
D.To introduce Thanksgiving Day in America.
29.What activities doesn’t the author’s family do on Thanksgiving Day
A.Watch a movie. B.Make visits.
C.Have a big meal. D.Watch football.
30.Why does the author’s mind usually go blank when saying a prayer of thanks
A.He is too thankful to say a word.
B.His mind is on the food before him.
C.He feels too excited to speak.
D.He is too shy to speak in public.
31.What does the underlined phrase “dig in” in the last paragraph mean
A.Chat with others. B.Make a hole.
C.Mix things up. D.Start eating.

Do you like traditional Chinese painting and dance They are two important parts of the traditional Chinese art. But what about when they meet each other
This year, a dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting(《只此青绿》) was staged on CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala and became popular.
According to CCTV, this poetic dance program was inspired by the Chinese painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains(《千里江山图》). Created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng at about 18, the painting is amazing in its sweeping size, rich coloration and the expressive details, reported CCTV. It shows a Chinese blue-green landscape—mountains and groupings of the infinite(无限的) rise and fall between a cloudless sky and rippling(起涟漪的) water.
When the dancers moved elegantly(优美地), the audience seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. “It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only a drama but also an exhibition. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!” Internet user Mo Weisha wrote in a review. “Hundreds of years later, green mountains and rivers still impress people as they did long ago.” Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the theaters later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modern shows have featured traditional Chinese culture and received a warm welcome. As for the reason, it is due to people’s great love for traditional Chinese culture.
“The younger generations have grown up with a more open mind. They accept Chinese culture and are proud of it.” Yao Wei, director of Henan TV Station’s Innovation Center, told China Daily.

37 The main part of a traditional wedding is the groom presenting the bride with 13 coins, which represents his promise to support her. However, times have changed and today’s brides and grooms exchange the coins as a symbol of the wealth they will equally share.

During the wedding reception, the bride and groom go from table to table carrying a basket with small wedding presents. The men will be offered a cigar or a mini-bottle of wine. And the women will be offered a little present. This may be the time in which guests also “hand back” the preferred wedding gift: money in envelopes. 40
A.Most Spanish weddings are connected with coins.
B.But today, with Hollywood’s influence weddings change a bit.
C.The couple stand together at the altar(圣坛) with no one else.
D.Therefore, you will find the traditional weddings are crowded.

His grandfather replied, “No, I am fine. I just feel like sitting alone.”
“Grandpa, you know the New Year party is drawing near, so are you preparing for it ” asked Alex excitedly.

“I know something is wrong with you and you are not telling me. Please tell me what the problem is,” Alex said.
“I feel I am a stranger in the world I am living in. It is not the same as I have known. Now everyone is busy with their own work. Your father is busy with business, your brother is busy with the computer, your sisters are busy watching dramas and your mum is busy with housework. 第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
Dear Tom,
How is everything going
I’m more than pleased to learn that you’re interested in Chinese couplets. As you know, pasting couplets is one of the traditional Chinese customs with a long history. Actually, it’s a common practice for most Chinese people to paste couplets on their door frames or walls before the Spring Festival. People want to say goodbye to the past year and express good wishes to their family in the new year by pasting couplets.
Welcome to China during the Spring Festival, and you can have a better experience of couplet culture.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
It was December 31 and everyone was busy with their own work. Alex’s grandfather was sitting in his room, reading a book. When the clock struck eight that evening, everyone started gathering in the living room and Alex went to call his grandfather. When his grandfather entered the living room, he was surprised to see everyone was there. “Today we are not going anywhere and today’s party is especially for you, Grandpa!” Alex said. The whole family apologized to him for being busy with their own lives. Then they had a wonderful dinner, telling stories and jokes.
Alex saw his grandfather looking very happy while talking with the family members. He came to Alex and said, “My dear child, I am really thankful to you. Because of you, I feel excited and alive again today. I thought that with each passing day and year, things would only get worse and worse but I know that this New Year is going to be a good one. Now I wish to live longer and enjoy life with everyone.” Alex was excited to see his grandfather happy and he truly knew that the family do matter.
