It’s a scene in many homes around the world: tired-eyed teens wake to the sound of their alarm clock. Another school day begins, and we all wish we could have just one extra hour of sleep.
For lucky high school students in England, they’re now going to reset their alarm and get an extra hour of sleep. Instead of starting school at 9 am, students will begin the academic day at 10 am.
This is part of a huge study by Oxford University. The experiment will see whether later classes can improve exam results.
More than 100 schools across England will join the four-year experiment, which includes tens of thousands of students. It is based on scientific evidence that teenagers are out of step with traditional school hours.
“We know that something funny happens when you’re a teenager,” lead sleep researcher Colin Epsie told The Telegraph. “Your parents think it’s because you’re lazy and everything would be OK if you could get to sleep earlier. But science is telling us that teenagers need to sleep more in the mornings.”
A similar experiment in 2009 saw an improvement of 19 percent in exam scores for major subjects – such as math and science.
Teenagers’ sleep cycles, on average, begin two hours after adults. Neuroscientists say teens have a built-in clock, which makes them more likely to go to sleep around midnight. As well as not feeling fully awake until between 9 am and 10 am. This body clock stays until the age of 19 for females and 21 for males.
Schools are places for learning, as well as education laboratories –- finding out the best ways to learn and increase knowledge. Yet we’ll have to wait until 2018 to find out these exciting results!
38. England high school students usually start school ___________.
A. at 7 am B. at 8 am C. at 9 am D. at 10 am
39. Teenagers struggle to get up early because ___________.
A. they are too lazy to get up early B. their body clock won’t start to work until 9 am

A. find out if later classes can improve exam results
B. test how students’ body clocks work
C. compare teenagers’ and adults’ sleeping patterns
D. help teachers to find the best way to teach
41. The article is focused on the topic that ___________.
A. teenagers need more sleep than adults
B. students might need more hours’ sleep in the morning
C. boys need more sleep in the morning than girls
D. it is important to do more experiments on education

To me, the concept of home changes along with my age all the time.
In my childhood, home was a number of calls. It seems that I had more free time than today’s children. I didn’t have to show up in front of my parents right after school, instead I would go to play with my classmates who lived in the neighborhood. We played like mad until dinner was ready and our parents called “Come back! Come home for supper!” Days passed by as I grew up in the company of those calls which are still echoing in my ears even now.
In a short while, my childhood was gone. When a thin layer of hair began to grow around the corners of my mouth, home became a place I tried to run away from.
As I read more and more, my world opened up, larger than before me. The bed I used to sleep in became too small, and words of care from my parents began to sound meaningless. How I wished I could have a space of my own someday! Later I joined the army and put on the green uniform. During my service days, home was the series of letters I received one after another. My most homesick moments were when I read those letters from my family.
When I got a job, I began to get “hurt”, to rise and fall in a sea of people, and to understand that you can’t share all your pains with other people, even with your best friends. So again, another wave of homesickness came over me. When I was badly hurt, I imagined myself flying home on wings. Pushing open the door, I let tears flow down my face. At that moment I felt that as large as the world was, what I needed was only the familiar smell of home and the unchanged view outside the window of my old house…
…
Although I already have much life experience behind me, I know there is still a long way ahead and my concept of home will go on developing. But already I have come to see that home is where we can find the true meaning of all the busy rush life. What makes the concept different is that sometimes it refers to a person’s home and sometimes to the home of many, many people.
42. What does the underlined word “company” mean in Chinese in Paragraph 2
A. 公司 B. 陪伴 C. 友情 D. 氛围
43. From the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE
A. He misses his life in his childhood. B. He lives happily when studying at school.
C. He enjoys himself during his service days. D. He can share his feelings with his buddies.
44. From the whole passage, what will be talked about in the following passage
A. His marriage B. Being a parent C. His job D. The last years of his life
45. What is the best title for the passage
A. Missing my parents and home B. Escaping from home
C. A changing concept of home D. A developing home

(49)_________.Teaching strengthens the understanding. So teach the concepts to someone else.It can be a real person in a study group,or you can just imagine that someone is listening to you as you teach.
In fact, memory skills will hardly work It you don't understand the information. What's more, only a regular review(复习)can make the memory last long. That is why students are always advised to go over what they have learnt after one day and then after three days, (50)_________.

Being a Volunteer of Going Green
Hello, everyone. I’m Lin Tao. I want to be a volunteer of going green. I’m glad to make a speech here.
I have many strong qualities. I’m so confident that I’m not afraid of making a speech in public. I’m creative, so I often come up with new ideas. I’m also organized. I always keep all my things in good order.
My favourite colour is green, because it’s the colour of nature and represents new life. I have worked as a volunteer for protecting the environment. I have also helped my classmates deal with their problems. For example, some of them felt sleepy in class. I advised them to manage the time better and go to bed earlier.
If I can be a volunteer, I can do many things for our environment. I can throw the rubbish into the rubbish bin. It’s necessary for me to save water by turning off the tap when I brush my teeth. I shouldn’t use plastic bags. Instead, I should take my own bags when shopping. I must try my best to make a big difference to the environment.
