Good afternoon, my dear teaches. It’s my great honor to share my lesson plan here today. My topic is Grade 6 Unit 4 I have a pen pal. Now I would like to describe it from the following 4 aspects: What to teach, Who to teach, Why to teach and How to teach.
To begin with, I'll analyze What to teach. Based on the New English Curriculum Standard, Core Competence of English and the Unit Integral Teaching, I design this lesson. In Unit 4 I have a pen pal, the students will learn the hobbies of friends, feel the advantages of hobbies, and then make friends and make life colorful with hobbies.
About A let’s talk, it’s the first period of this unit. The main scene is that: Zhang Peng is talking with Oliver about his pen pal Peter’s hobbies.
The above analysis actually tells me what to teach, while the analysis of students will tell me who to teach. Our students are in Grade 6. They are active and curios. They have learned a lot of expressions to describe the appearance, personality and so on. In this lesson, I’ll mobilize their active participation through some songs and games.
According to the New Curriculum Standard, I set up the following teaching aims:

In order to achieve the teaching aims, this teaching strategies and learning methods will be used with these teaching aids.
Now, let’s come to the most important part--How to teach. The teaching procedures will be demonstrated into 4 steps:
Step 1. Excite
To begin the lesson, We’ll sing a song together. I’ll tell the Ss that I have a pen pal and let them guess who is she, stimulating the Ss’ curiosity. Then I’ll ask them What’s the song about.Then we’ll have a free talk about some kinds of hobbies.
Step 2. Explore and Exchange, including 8 tasks.
Let’s try
Based on the main scene, the Ss listen to the tape and get some information about Peter.
After the learning of Let’s try, it’s about the main part--Let’s talk.
To begin with, the Ss look at the wall chart and answer two Qs, getting Peter’s address and learning the difficult sentence: That’s interesting.
Then they’ll watch the video carefully and tick the boys’ hobbies, getting the main content of this dialogue. We’ll also have a chant and play a game to practice the key sentences, studying in a fun atmosphere.
Thereafter, the Ss think about What will Zhang Peng do for Peter and sing the famous Chinese song Jasmine Flower, influenced by the traditional music.
After getting the main information of the dialogue, I’ll ask the Ss to open their books and follow the tape, especially pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation. Then they’ll role play the dialogue and present it in class.
There is also a task for them to retell the dialogue, so they can further understand the dialogue.
Step 3. Expand
In this section, 2 activities are organized.
Activity 1: Pair work
First, I’ll show the Ss a demo. Then the Ss talk in pairs about their best friends’ hobbies and perform it in class.
Activity 2: Little designer
The Ss will design a poster about his dream pen pal, and share it with us.
These 2 activities can let Ss feel the joy of sharing and learning from each other.
Then we’ll have a free talk about Why should we cultivate hobbies, cultivating the Ss' awareness of making friends through hobbies.
Step 4. Examine
There are some exercises for the Ss to review the information of Peter.
About the Homework, There is necessary homework and optional homework for the Ss in different levels.
Finally, I'll talk about my blackboard design, which is about the new words, and the key sentences. It’s colorful so to attract the Ss’ attention.
According to the theory of integration of teaching and evaluation, I design the form of evaluation, including self-assessment, mutual-evaluation and the teacher’s assessment to motivate the Ss.
As for me, I’ll try my best to help the Ss learn English steadily and happily!
