There’s another universe not far from land. It lacks buildings, trees, cars, cellphones and the Internet. Seemingly limitless water extends uninterruptedly in all directions. Civilization goes away, along with any sign of humanity. And it is why I’m really into sailing. I grew up around boats. My father liked sailing and built them. My older sister and I were stuffed into a car nearly every summer weekend until my late teens to make the trip from northeast Indiana to the south shore of Lake Erie in Ohio, where Talisman built by my father waited patiently through the week.
As a kid, I read the adventures of Robin Lee Graham, a traveller exploring the sea alone, in the pages of National Geographic and, later, in Graham's book, Dove. However, it wasn't until about 20 years ago, well into my adulthood, that I took up sailing in a serious way. I've made voyages in fair stormy and weather, on my own boats and those of my friends, and ranging from nearshore day sails to blue-water passages.
Still, I've made plenty of mistakes. While living in Asia, a sailing friend and I set off across the South China Sea and intended to get to Thailand, only to be pushed by a late-season typhoon that forced us to make landfall in Vietnam, glad to be alive.
Years later, my wife and I lived aboard our 37-foot ship, Symbiosis, while we saved enough to take a two-year leave from our jobs to journey down the U.S. Atlantic coast and through the Bahamas and the Caribbean. We visited many places that never see ships or airplanes and that are nearly impossible to reach anyway other than at the helm(舵柄) of a small boat. But boats are expensive and time-consuming. After returning from the Caribbean a few years ago, we decided to sell Symbiosis, resolving instead to sail only “other people's boats”. It didn't last, though. A few months ago, we found a good deal on a smaller sailboat—easier to maintain but still capable of some short offshore journeys. I think we'll name her Talisman.
24.What would the author do on summer weekends as a kid
A.He would help his father build Talisman.
B.He would sail with his father and his sister.
C.He would explore northeast Indiana in a car.
D.He would bring human civilization to sailing.
25.What can we learn about the book Dove
A.It has something to do with exploring the sea.
B.It was published in National Geographic.
C.It is the most famous work by Graham.
D.It was an inspiration for the author's writing.
26.Why did the author sell his ship Symbiosis
A.It didn’t function well. B.He couldn’t afford to maintain it.
C.He found a better one to replace it. D.It was damaged seriously during a storm.
27.What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text
A.To show his passion for sailing boats.
B.To stress the influence of adventures on him.
C.To discuss the problems of sailing on the sea.
D.To share his success in exploring the world.

Among thousands of emperor penguins in Atka Bay, a yellow robot named ECHO quickly moves over the Antarctic environment and patiently observes the birds. The autonomous, remote-controlled robot is about three feet long and stands at eye level with the adult penguins. It monitors Southern Ocean ecosystems in real-time, year-round with small impact on wildlife.
ECHO was designed by the Marine Animal Remote Sensing Lab at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. Scientists hope to use the robot as part of a 30-year project looking at the impact of climate change on the region. Since emperor penguins are among the top predators (捕食性动物) in the region, studying their populations can show the health of the Antarctic environment.
Scientists must physically catch penguins and put chips on their hacks to track them. But to gather data on the chips, scientists have to get close enough to the devices to scan (扫描) them, and sometimes, penguins are hard to locate, or the weather may be too terrible for humans to go out in the field.
ECHO removes these issues by acting as a mobile observatory that can monitor thousands of penguins each year. The robot can easily approach the penguins and scan the chips without introducing a harmful human footprint or affecting the birds. The robot is equipped with LIDAR, or light detection and ranging, and a 360-degree camera that can monitor penguins on large areas and uses an antenna (天线) to read each penguin’s chip.
While ECHO has only been tested for a year, researchers say the penguins do not seem to be afraid of it and don’t mind it when it comes near. When penguins gather in large groups during the wintertime, ECHO can steal in and scan penguins as they brave the elements. By tracking their behaviors over time, researchers can observe how penguins adapt and follow where they go to search for food. In turn, these data points can also determine the true size of protected areas of the sea.
28.Why do researchers monitor the penguins
A.To further understand the food chain.
B.To protect the birds from being hunted.
C.To find out how the birds survive winters.
D.To learn about the Antarctic environment.
29.How do researchers get the information about the penguins
A.By keeping a few of them. B.By visiting them often in person.
C.By attaching chips to them. D.By referring to previous findings.
30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A.The advantages of the robot. B.The challenges of the project.
C.The population of the penguins. D.The environment of the region.
31.What can we infer about ECHO from the last paragraph
A.It will be joined by more robots. B.Its work is going on smoothly.
C.It will be brought back before long. D.Its equipment requires updating.

Ask the new artificial intelligence (AI) tool ChatGPT to write an essay about the cause of the American Civil War and you can watch it produce a persuasive term paper in a matter of seconds that has even be enable to pass school exams. That’s one reason why New York City school officials this week started blocking the impressive but controversial writing tool that can generate paragraphs of human-like text. The free tool has been around for just five weeks but is already raising tough questions about the future of AI in education, the tech industry and a host of professions.
ChatGPT was launched on Nov. 30 and is part of a new generation of AI systems that can chat, generate readable text on demand and even produce novel images and video based on what they’ve learned from a vast database of digital books, online writings and other media. But unlike previous models of so-called “large language models”, such as Open AI’s GPT-3, launched in 2020, the ChatGPT tool is available to anyone with an Internet connection for free and designed to be more user-friendly. It works like a written dialogue between the AI system and the person asking it questions.
Millions of people have played with it over the past month, using it to write silly poems or songs, trying to trick it into making mistakes, or for more practical purposes such as helping compose an email.
As with similar systems, ChatGPT can generate convincing prose, but that doesn't mean what it says is factual or logical. Its launch came with little guidance on how to use it, other than a promise that ChatGPT will admit when it's wrong.
Many school districts are still struggling to figure out how to set policies on whether and how it can be used. “While the tool may be able to provide quick and easy answers to questions, it does not build critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for academic and lifelong success,” said a school’s spokesperson Jenna Lyle from NYC. But there's no stopping a student from accessing ChatGPT from a personal phone or computer at home.
32.What can we learn about the term paper from paragraph 1
A.It is a result of the improvement of education. B.It can be rated as passing by schoolteachers.
C.It has caught the attention of the public.D.It acts as a model for students to follow.
33.What makes Chat GPT different from GPT-3
A.ChatGPT can create text. B.ChatGPT can edit digital books.
C.ChatGPT is free of charge to all. D.ChatGPT can ask its users questions.
34.What is Jenna's attitude towards students’ use of Chat GPT
A.Favourable. B.Tolerant. C.Uncaring. D.Disapproving.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.How Are Schools Handling Chat GPT
B.You Can Check When ChatGPT’s Telling the Truth
C.What Is ChatGPT and Why Are Schools Blocking It
D.Students Are Using ChatGPT to Do Their Homework

Lately, I was deeply touched with two movies about faithful dogs:A Dog's Purpose and A Dog's Way Home. A dog's life cycled and cycled only to meet his first owner while the other covered 400 miles of toil and hunger all the way back to her home. I had a faithful dog too when I was a little girl, but it was a different story.
When my dad first took him home in a cardboard box, he was so quiet that I even doubted whether there was really a dog in it. When I peeped through two small holes on the side, I just saw a patch of grey fur. My dad assured me that it was just a small dog before I dared to open the box. There he was! What a lovely grey dog! He was slim and looked smart. I was on my knees as I cheerfully observed him. However, he tried to avoid eye contact with me, apparently a little scared with everything strange around. I wanted to pet his head but he only turned his head away.
When he became familiar with me, I called him Billy and he was really delighted, zagging his tail. Every time I left for school, he saw me off. When I came back, he ways waited on my way home and greeted me with his licks and brushed his head against legs. When Billy was in the kitchen with my father, lying on a small heap of firewood side the furnace (灶),he could always know which piece of firewood my dad would pick and raised his paw in time. It always surprised me how intelligent and considerate Billy I imagined him turning into a small boy carrying my schoolbag for me and talking my dad. With Billy brightening every day of my childhood, I was more than happy.
Paragraph 1:
But one day, Billy was seriously ill.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2:
A few years later, I went to a dog's shelter to try my luck.

Good afternoon, I’d like to share with you about working from home. Before COVID-19, my company believed that working in the office was good for productivity. But after over a year of working from home, many of us are starting to question traditional ways of working. Our boss did some research on the issue and discovered that 80% of employees have enjoyed working from home. 42% felt that they’ve been just as productive as they were in an office, and 28% felt they were more productive at home. For me, one of the best things was not having to travel an hour to and from work each day. This meant I got more sleep, and had more time for family and hobbies. I also didn’t have many questions from co-workers, so it was easier to focus, and get more work done in less time. But there were problems, too. I felt lonely at times and having online meetings could be very upset! Worst of all, it could be difficult to stop working because I didn’t have to leave the office. In the future, I’d like a flexible approach to work from home several days a week and in the office for the rest.

C.It has caught the attention of the public. D.It acts as a model for students to follow.
【答案】BCDC

根据第一段中“Ask the new artificial intelligence (AI) tool ChatGPT to write an essay about the cause of the American Civil War and you can watch it produce a persuasive term paper in a matter of seconds that has even be enable to pass school exams.(让新的人工智能工具ChatGPT写一篇关于美国内战起因的文章,你可以看到它在几秒钟内写出一篇有说服力的学期论文,甚至可以通过学校考试)”可知,学期论文可以被学校老师评为及格。故选B。
But unlike previous models of so-called“large language models”, such as Open AI’s GPT-3, launched in 2020, the ChatGPT tool is available to anyone with an Internet connection for free and designed to be more user-friendly.(但与之前所谓的“大型语言模型”不同,比如Open AI在2020年推出的GPT-3, ChatGPT工具对任何有互联网连接的人都是免费的,而且设计得更加用户友好)”可知,ChatGPT与GPT-3的不同之处在于ChatGPT面向任何人都是免费的。故选C。
根据最后一段中“While the tool may be able to provide quick and easy answers to questions, it does not build critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for academic and lifelong success(虽然这个工具可能能够提供快速而简单的问题答案,但它并不能培养批判性思维和解决问题的能力,而这对学术和终身成功至关重要)”可推断,Jenna对学生使用ChatGPT持否定态度。故选D。
根据第一段“Ask the new artificial intelligence (AI) tool ChatGPT to write an essay about the cause of the American Civil War and you can watch it produce a persuasive term paper in a matter of seconds that has even be enable to pass school exams. 【答案】
56.was designed 57.The 58.original 59.which 60.has produced 61.but 62.measures 63.performance 64.to complete 65.randomly
故填was designed。
故填The。
故填which。
故填has produced。
故填but。
It takes/took time to do sth. 故填to complete。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
A few years later, I went to a dog's shelter to try my luck.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
But one day, Billy was seriously ill. I took him to the pet doctor. The doctor said it was nothing serious and prescribed medicine for him. After returning home, I began to take good care of him. He was so smart that every time I held him, he would look at me gratefully. But his cough got worse and worse, and gradually he could not eat. I was worried about him, but in the end he just left me. I had been sad for a long time, but not been able to find a dog that could replace him.
A few years later, I went to a dog's shelter to try my luck. When I went in, I found a gray dog that looked like Billy. As I looked at him, he tried to avoid eye contact with me, which was just like Billy. I was so happy that I decided to take him home. I gave him a bath and he began to grow closer to me. After that, I became more and more fond of him, and I could feel his closeness to me. I named him Coco. He is unique and I believe he will bring me a lot of happiness.
