Dear future Linda (or rather myself),
I hope when you read this letter you don’t find my writing too messy!
At the moment, I’m 15 years old and living at home with my family. I love
school and have lots of good friends. We do lots of fun things together like
parties, ice skating and swimming. My biggest worry is not doing well in
my school exams, but I’m working really hard, so hopefully I have
nothing to worry about.

There’s so much I (You!) want to do. I hope you’ve travelled all
over the world and seen lots of things and met lots of people. I hope you’ve
visited the Great Wall in China and the pyramids in Egypt, shopped in New
York City and in Paris, and seen polar bears in Norway and the Great
Barrier Reef in Australia. I’ve just remembered, you always wanted to see
elephants in India—I hope you’ve managed to do that too.

I promise myself I’ll always try my best and have no regrets. I never
want to forget where every step of my life has taken me.Already it seems as if
so much has happened. I’ve moved from primary to junior middle school
(about to graduate), been taught to swim and dance (I love ballet
dancing), learned to speak Chinese and French, and raised money for
those in need by selling old toys and books.

I really hope you’re happy. I hope you have a successful career that you
enjoy and look forward to each morning when you wake up. I hope you’re
surrounded by good friends and family and maybe also have a family of your
own. More than anything else, I hope you’ve enjoyed every single moment
so far!
Love Linda

A Chinese zodiac dragon version of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games
mascot Bing Dwen Dwen appeared in front of the public at China’s National
Stadium on Wednesday, 29 November, 2023. The special version was
designed to celebrate the second anniversary of the Beijing Games. And at the
same time, it expressed wishes for the upcoming Year of the Dragon in
February 2024.

“The dragon represents the spirit of the Chinese nation and the best
wishes for health and well-being, which echoes the union highlighted by the
Olympic family,” said Lin Cunzhen, a designer of the dragon version of
Bing Dwen Dwen.
The products of the new version, including toys, badges and key
rings, hit the market on December 7, 2023.

During the Beijing Winter Olympics, which went with the Chinese
New Year in 2022,organizers designed a special festival edition of Bing
Dwen Dwen dressed in a costume featuring tiger elements to celebrate the
Year of the Tiger.
Following Hu—meaning “tiger”—Dwen Dwen, Tu Dwen Dwen
was also designed, inspired by a traditional rabbit, for the Year of the
Rabbit.

“People are always curious about the new appearance of Bing Dwen
Dwen, as we all know how popular it has been since the opening of the
Beijing Winter Olympics nearly two years ago,” Lin Cunzhen added,
noting that Chinese people hope to see what the next version of Bing Dwen
Dwen will look like.

“If people from other countries know the idea of our design, they can
better understand Chinese culture. If possible, we hope to carry out all 12
Chinese zodiac versions of Bing Dwen Dwen to meet the expectations of the
public, which is also an important event for myself,” Lin said.

五、 阅读理解。
We all know the sun is important. It makes life on our planet possible.
But how does the sun do that? It’s the sun’s energy.

Energy from the sun is called solar energy. It comes in the form of light
or heat. People have used solar energy for thousands of years. The sun’s
energy can be used to heat water and even food. If you own a magnifying
glass, your parents have probably warned you not to leave it in the sun.
Solar energy can actually make the magnifying glass burn objects underneath
it. This type of energy from the sun is called solar thermal(热的) energy.

We can also turn the sun’s light into electricity. This is done with solar
panels(太阳能电池板). Solar panels are mainly made up of a material
called silicon(硅). The silicon is heated and formed into very thin wafers
(薄片). When the sunlight hits the solar panel, the electrons in the
silicon move and flow through wires(电线). Using this technology, we
can run a calculator and even power cars.

But what happens on cloudy days? The electrons in the silicon will stop
moving, which means the electricity can’t flow. But this doesn’t mean that
solar energy can only be used on sunny days. People can use the batteries
(电池) which are attached to solar panels to store the electricity. So the
stored electricity can be used to power cars at night or on cloudy days.

Do you know that solar energy is not as expensive as it used to be? In
fact, in the last few years, solar panels have become much more
affordable for people to use. Since the sun gives off more energy in one
second than people can use, imagine what we could do if we used the sun’s
energy to power our planet.

( B )1. A magnifying glass can make objects look .
A. smaller B. bigger
C. more beautiful D. further
( D )2. What does the third paragraph mainly tell us?
A. How to use solar thermal energy.
B. How to power our planet.
C. How to store electricity with batteries.
D. How to turn sunlight into electricity with solar panels.
B
D

( C )3. Which of the following is not true?
A. Solar panels are mainly made up of silicon.
B. Solar energy can be used for heating food.
C. It costs more to use solar energy than before.
D. People have used solar energy for thousands of years.
C
