There is no such thing as a perfect woman, and Nothing But Thirty screenwriter Zhang Yingji wanted to convey this message in telling the stories of three different women, who have round very different ways to climb their own mountains.
Wang Manni is a woman who will climb any mountain as long as she finds it challenging. Zhong Xiaoqin is one who will only climb if she has someone to go along with her. She will not overexert (使……过度劳累) herself, and she will definitely stop once she has reached a comfortable place. Gu lia, on the other hand, has already started to think about reaching the peak before she even starts the climb, regardless of whether she is alone or has company.
In a sense the scriptwriter purposely created Gu Jia as the perfect woman of thirty. She is married, with a successful husband and a young son. She is living the dream, but Gu Jia does not feel complete. She feels lost. She is flawed. She has episodes of succumbing (屈服) to her own greed and disregard to those around her.
“She is someone who chases after perfection.” said Tong Yao (who portrays Gu Jia). “Obviously, this is stressful for those around her. She hides things. She isn’t perfect, but in front of others. She has to stay perfect.”
Her chase for perfection and her stubbornness to maintain this image has effected many of the relationships in her life. She chases after what she believes is right for others. Because of this, she and her husband start to see and value things differently, which puts a strain on their relationship.
Gu Jia’s personal struggles give life to the character. Many viewers are able to relate to her, and, through her character, find a shadow of themselves. There’s still a lot left that we can learn from the women of Nothing but Thirty, but maybe like them, we too can find the courage in ourselves to walk on that mad which is truly meant for us.
4. According to the article, which of the following best describes Zhong Xiaoqin’s personality
A. Ambitious and goal-driven B. Moderate and content
C. Purposeful and impulsive D. Visionary and independent
5. According to Paragraph 3, what is NOT TRUE about Gu Jia’s life
A. She has her own worries and insecurities.
B. She leads a seemingly perfect an a enviable life.
C. She can be greedy and insensitive to others’ feelings.
D. She is discontented with life because of her husband.
6. According to the passage, audiences have a preference for Gu Jia mainly because she ______.
A. is a perfectionist B. stands up to her husband
C. balances her work and life well D. displays some identifiable personalities
7. What is the main purpose of this passage
A. To call attention to the rise of feminism.
B. To introduce the plot of Nothing but Thirty.
C. To contrast the main characters of Nothing but Thirty.
D. To encourage viewers to find inspiration in Nothing but Thirty.
B 5. D 6. D 7. D

根据第二段中“Zhong Xiaoqin is one who will only climb if she has someone to go along with her. She will not overexert (使……过度劳累) herself, and she will definitely stop once she has reached a comfortable place. (钟晓芹是一个只有有人陪着才会往上爬的人。她不会过度劳累,一旦她达到了一个舒适的地方,她肯定会停下来。)”可知,钟晓芹是一个需要有人陪伴才会攀登山峰的人,她不会过度劳累自己,一旦到达一个舒适的地方就会停下来,这表明她的性格是适度和容易满足的。故选B。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“In a sense the scriptwriter purposely created Gu Jia as the perfect woman of thirty. She is married, with a successful husband and a young son. She is living the dream, but Gu Jia does not feel complete. She feels lost. She is flawed. She has episodes of succumbing (屈服) to her own greed and disregard to those around her. D选项“She is discontented with life because of her husband. (因为丈夫的缘故,她对生活感到不满。)”与原文信息不符。故选D。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Gu Jia’s personal struggles give life to the character. Many viewers are able to relate to her, and, through her character, find a shadow of themselves. ( 顾佳的个人挣扎赋予了角色生命。许多观众能够与她产生共鸣,并通过她的角色找到自己的影子。)”可知,文章指出顾佳的个人挣扎让这个角色栩栩如生,许多观众能够通过她找到自己的影子,这说明观众喜欢她主要是因为她展现出了一些可以识别的个性特征。故选D。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“There’s still a lot left that we can learn from the women of Nothing but Thirty, but maybe like them, we too can find the courage in ourselves to walk on that mad which is truly meant for us. (我们仍然可以从《三十而已》中的女性身上学到很多东西,但也许我们也可以像她们一样,找到自己的勇气,走上那条真正属于我们的道路。)”可知,此处强调也许像剧中的女性一样,我们也可以找到属于自己的道路,勇敢前行,这表明文章的主要目的是鼓励观众从《三十而已》中找到灵感。故选D。
C
Electronics woven (编织) into fabrics promise to open up all kinds of interesting possibilities, from clothing that monitors muscle activity and tracks breathing, to garments that can talk to one another. Developing pliable power sources to go with them is an equally important field of research, so scientists at the University of British Columbia have put forward a particularly impressive solution that they say could be the first ever battery that is both stretchable and washable.
To develop a battery with such capabilities, the scientists reimagined the way these devices are put together. Rather than forming a lithium-ion battery packed with hardened materials inside a rigid exterior, the team turned to an alternative chemistry in zinc-manganese (锌锰) dioxide, which is appealing for its low cost and safety. These materials were ground down into tiny pieces and inset in a polymer (聚合物) to form very thin and stretchable layers.
“We went with zinc-manganese because for devices worn next to the skin, it’s a safer chemistry than lithium-ion batteries, which can produce deadly compounds when they break,” says Nguyen.
The resulting battery is flexible and can be stretched to twice its normal length, has a specific capacity of 160 mAh g-1 and keeps 75 percent of its capacity over 500 charge and discharge cycles. Impressively, the team found the battery to withstand 39 wash cycles so far.
The team is now working to improve the power output and lifetime of the battery, and says the creation has already attracted commercial interest, with the cost expected to be similar to a standard rechargeable battery. They imagine it being put to use in watches and patches that measure vital signs, and in smart clothing that does much the same thing.
8. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “pliable” in paragraph 1
A. Strong. B. Multiple.
C. Reliable. D. Flexible.
9. What was a major consideration for introducing zinc-manganese battery
A. Safety. B. Hardness.
C. Comfortableness. D. Convenience.
10. Which aspect of the new battery impressed the researchers in paragraph 4
A. Its stretch length. B. Its washability.
C Its massive capacity. D. Its charge speed.
11. What is the main idea of the text
A. Electronic clothing is well received.
B. Clothing fitted with new battery is on the way.
C. Flexible and washable power sources woven into clothing will be available.
D. Electronics woven into fabrics open up possibilities.
D 9. A 10. B 11. C

D
Is it possible to persuade mankind to live without war War is an ancient institution, which has existed for at least six thousand years. It was always bad and usually foolish, but in the past human race managed to live with it. Modern technology has changed this: Either man will abolish war, or war will abolish man. For the present, it is nuclear weapons that cause the most serious danger, but bacteriological on chemical weapons may, before long, offer an even greater threat. If we succeed in abolishing nuclear weapons, our work will not be done. It will never be done until we have succeeded in abolishing war. To do this, we need to persuade mankind to look upon international questions in a new way, not as contests of force, in which the victory goes to the side which is most skillful in killing people, but by arbitration (通过仲裁) in accordance with agreed principles of law. It is not easy to change very old mental habits, but this is what must be attempted.
There are those who say that the adoption of this or that ideology would prevent war. I believe this to be a big error. All ideologies are based upon dogmatic (武断) statements that are, at best, doubtful, and at worst, totally false. Their followers believe in them so fanatically that they are willing to go to war in support of them.
The movement of world opinion during the past few years has been very largely such as we can welcome. It has become a commonplace that nuclear war must be avoided. Of course very difficult problems remain in the world, but the spirit in which they are being approached is a better one than it was some years ago. It has begun to be thought, even by the powerful men who decide whether we shall live or die, that negotiations should reach agreements even if both sides do not find these agreements wholly satisfactory. It has begun to be understood that the important conflict nowadays is not between different countries, but between man and the atom bomb.
12. A probable interpretation of the sentence in bold (黑体) in the 1st paragraph could be ______.
A. Man, as well as war, will have to make the ultimate choice between them two
B. Modern technology has empowered man to choose war or not
C. People will eventually destroy themselves if they choose to go to war at modern times
D. At least 6, 000 years later, man has finally decided to abandon war once and for all
13. From paragraphs 1 and 2, which of the following conclusion could we arrive at
A. The author believes any ideology is either doubtful or false.
B. Arbitration instead of contests can help change old mental habits.
C. Nuclear weapons have posed the greatest threat to human race.
D. Adoption of one ideology or another does nothing to prevent wars.
14. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word “approached”
A. Addressed. B. Reached. C. Divided. D. Praised.
15. The author’s attitude towards “the world opinion of nuclear war” is ______.
A. pessimistic B. indifferent C. optimistic D. neutral
C 13. D 14. A 15. C
根据黑体字后面的内容“For the present, it is nuclear weapons that cause the most serious danger, but bacteriological on chemical weapons may, before long, offer an even greater threat. If we succeed in abolishing nuclear weapons, our work will not be done. It will never be done until we have succeeded in abolishing war. (目前,造成最严重危险的是核武器,但不久之后,细菌和化学武器可能会带来更大的威胁。如果我们成功地废除了核武器,我们的工作还没有完成。除非我们成功地废除了战争,否则这个任务永远不会完成。)”可知,在当代造成最严重危险的是核武器,但不久之后,细菌和化学武器可能会带来更大的威胁即现代技术使得战争变得更加危险,人们必须做出选择,要么消除战争,要么被战争消灭。故黑体句子与C选项“People will eventually destroy themselves if they choose to go to war at modern times(在现代,如果人们选择战争,最终会毁灭自己)”为同义表达。
根据第二段中“There are those who say that the adoption of this or that ideology would prevent war. I believe this to be a big error. All ideologies are based upon dogmatic (武断的) statements that are, at best, doubtful, and at worst, totally false. (有些人说,采用这种或那种意识形态可以防止战争。我认为这是一个很大的错误。所有的意识形态都是建立在武断的声明基础上的,往好了说,是可疑的,往坏了说,是完全错误的。)”可知,作者认为所有意识形态都基于武断的声明,这些声明可能是可疑的,甚至是完全错误的,因此不能防止战争。故选D。
【14题详解】
词义猜测题。根据划线词前面的句子“The movement of world opinion during the past few years has been very largely such as we can welcome. It has become a commonplace that nuclear war must be avoided. Of course very difficult problems remain in the world,(在过去几年中,世界舆论的动向在很大程度上是我们可以欢迎的。必须避免核战争已成为老生常谈。当然,世界上仍然存在非常困难的问题,)”可知,当前世界舆论朝着良好的方向来发展,即避免核战争,这是很好的走势。当然世界上还有很多困难的问题。同时根据划线词前面的“they”以及划线词后面的句子“It has begun to be thought, even by the powerful men who decide whether we shall live or die, that negotiations should reach agreements…(甚至那些有权决定我们生死的人也开始认为,谈判应该达成协议……)” 故选A。
根据最后一段中“It has begun to be thought, even by the powerful men who decide whether we shall live or die, that negotiations should reach agreements even if both sides do not find these agreements wholly satisfactory. It has begun to be understood that the important conflict nowadays is not between different countries, but between man and the atom bomb.(甚至那些有权决定我们生死的人也开始认为,谈判应该达成协议,即使双方对这些协议并不完全满意。人们开始认识到,当今最重要的冲突不是国家之间的冲突,而是人与原子弹之间的冲突。)”可知,人们开始认识到必须避免核战争,谈判应该达成协议,即以更加合作的态度来解决国际问题,所以作者对“世界对核战争的看法”持乐观态度。故选C。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
Is a moviegoer different than a movie-lover I’d say so. You can love a movie by watching it at home. ____16____. I’ve spent a lot of time talking to people about movies. By listening to what they say, I can report they only share one thing in common: they go out.
I’ve thought about two views of the moviegoer lately.
The first view comes from Roland Barthes. Most often, his moviegoers don’t go to the movies for a distinct purpose. ____17____. They are bored. Once they get inside, they can’t help but sink into a relaxed state. When they leave the movie theater, these moviegoers don’t want to talk to anyone about the movie. ____18____. Barthes sees them as a lonely being, one who is introspective (自省的). I think some of us use movie theaters to retreat inside ourselves.
The second view comes from the Clark Theater manager, Bruce Trinz. When people go to the movies they go for a certain personal motive. They may want to forget something, or escape from the lives they are leading. Or they may want to see a film they liked years ago. ____19____, they are the hopeless addicts who, quite simply, like movies. The only thing I would challenge in this definition is the word hopeless. ____20____, but they come to the movies filled with hope. They may not be able to define what they hope to experience, but they will know it when they feel it.
A. Whatever motive they have
B. To be a moviegoer, you have to go out
C. The movie also puts them somewhere else
D. They are instead wrapped up in themselves
E. Because moviegoers go in search of beauty
F. Moviegoers may be hopelessly addicted to the movies
G. It’s something to do with a response to leisure, free time
B 17. G 18. D 19. A 20. F

根据上文“When they leave the movie theater, these moviegoers don’t want to talk to anyone about the movie. (当他们离开电影院时,这些电影观众不想和任何人谈论电影。)”可知,设空处应该说明的是电影观众离开电影院时的表现。选项D. They are instead wrapped up in themselves(相反,他们只在意自己的观影感受)承接上文。故选D。
根据上文“They may want to forget something, or escape from the lives they are leading. Or they may want to see a film they liked years ago. (他们可能想要忘记一些事情,或者逃离他们正在过的生活。或者他们可能想看一部他们多年前喜欢的电影。)”以及下文“they are the hopeless addicts who, quite simply, like movies. (他们是无可救药的影迷,很简单,就是喜欢电影。)”可知,设空处应说明的时不管他们有着什么目的,他们只是喜欢电影。选项A. Whatever motive they have 故选A。
根据上文“The only thing I would challenge in this definition is the word hopeless. (在这个定义中,我唯一要质疑的是“无望”这个词。)”以及下文“but they come to the movies filled with hope. (但他们带着希望来看电影。)”可知,空格处与“无望”有关,且与下文为转折关系。选项F. Moviegoers may be hopelessly addicted to the movies

I need to do something in my community (社区) in order to complete the community service hours required to graduate from high school. Some of my friends had signed up to spend time at a soup kitchen, so I did, too. It seemed like a good thing to do.
I thought that we would just be passing our dinners to those in need, but I found out we would be doing everything from preparing to serving the dinner. We began preparing the food, from mixing salad dressing to separating frozen meat. Much still needed to be done before dinner was served, but already outside the building many homeless people were gathering. It wasn’t until a couple of hours later that we opened the doors and began serving dinner.
As the line of people came toward me, I got a little scared. I’d come face to face with the homeless: How should I act How would they treat me Would they hate me for having more than they did While some of the people looked very friendly, some of them looked so dangerous, I didn’t have too much time to worry about it. I was assigned (分配) to serve the salad with the lady next to me. She smiled at me and said if I needed help, she’d be right there, which I found quite comforting.
I had never seen so many people wanting food. They were of all ages and nationalities. Most of them wore clothes that were torn and dirty. Some looked like they had totally given up on life, while others seemed to be making the best of the situation, smiling and joking. Some were better off than others, but they all needed a good meal and a warm place to eat. It saddened me to think of how many people there were who didn’t have a place to call home and the only food they got came from a soup kitchen.

As they came in my direction, I put on my brightest and happiest smile. Nervous as I felt, I did my best to keep myself calm and packed bread, salad and meat to those in need. Upon noticing my hurried and trembling hands, the lady next to me smilingly told me that I should first organize these people to queue up and then hand out salad one by one. I immediately sprang into action and the passing time witnessed the smooth process of this event. Every one of them including those who looked very dangerous murmured in a cheering voice “Thank you” and bowed to me sincerely, which brought warmth straight into my heart. It was not until the night wiped out the last ray of sun that we finished our community service for the homeless.
I was so happy that I had earned my service hours in this way. I was aware that my time spent at the soup kitchen was really a rewarding, enriching and life-changing experience. Not only did I clear my previous prejudice against those who deserved compassion and support, but also I served the people who were less fortunate than me. In the meanwhile, I suddenly came to realize that not everyone was blessed with fortune and born to be wealthy, and therefore, we should always keep grateful for what life blessed us with. I now felt it a duty to do what I could for them. Since that day, I have spared more time in offering my service opportunity in dining halls, in the streets, in front of grocery stores.

5. According to Paragraph 3, what is NOT TRUE about Gu Jia’s life
A She has her own worries and insecurities.
C. Its massive capacity. D. Its charge speed.
11. What is the main idea of the text
A. Electronic clothing is well received.
B. Clothing fitted with new battery is on the way.
C. Flexible and washable power sources woven into clothing will be available.
D. Electronics woven into fabrics open up possibilities.
All ideologies are based upon dogmatic (武断的) statements that are, at best, doubtful, and at worst, totally false.
