55-year-old Rob Kenney, who grew up without a father, has been doing his part to make a difference in the lives of kids today.
He created a YouTube channel, called Dad, How Do I, which aims to give youths the valuable lessons a father is meant to give. Launched only two months ago, his channel already has more than two million subscribers (订阅者). Rob teaches children and adults, many of whom are also without a dad, basic skills such as how to tie a tie, how to cook meals, how to repair a lamp and many more.
“I didn’t start this to make money,” Rob told his viewers. “I just thought I was going to help a few people... 30 or 40 subscribers... but it’s turned into a way more than that. And please don’t think I am only aiming this at young men. It is for anybody who feels that they need to learn something.”
Now that his channel has had such huge unexpected success, Rob plans to give his earnings to a number of international charities.
Many viewers have been touched by the warm words Rob shares in his videos. Such simple words, like “I love you”, “You’ve done a good job” and “I’m proud of you”, can have a deep impact on many children, even some adults. He starts each video with an enthusiastic “Hey, kids!” — but Keiha Danaher said that she was a 33-year-old woman, and she answered back crying, saying, “Hi, dad!”
Rob’s childhood story makes him a role for the kids who watch his channel. By the age of 14, his parents had divorced. He had to move in with his elder brother and learn from the tough life experiences without parents in his life. But that didn’t prevent him from being a good father to his children. His experience shows his viewers that there is always opportunity in the face of difficulties.
4. Why did Rob Kenney create the channel Dad, How Do I in the beginning
A. To cheer up those who feel upset.
B. To make some money to support his family.

D. Rob guesses there won’t be more people to subscribe his channel.
6. What does Rob plan to do in the future
A. Make his videos more entertaining and instructive.
B. Help more children improve their intelligence.
C. Let more people have sympathy for him.

Just by typing a few keywords and waiting a few seconds, a picture comparable to that painted by a human artist appears on screen.
AI art generators have seemingly swept the Chinese Internet. In some paintings created by AI, an elderly man can be shown as a young animated image, and pets can be turned into adorable cartoon girls or boys.
Huang Ge, an illustrator from Shanghai, said that it usually takes him several hours or days to complete one illustration. But with AI art generators, the efficiency is greatly improved. “Also, the generators have many modification (修改) modes, and the picture can be modified directly in the painting software,” he added. Ding Jiao, a comic artist, considers the popularity of AI art generators reasonable as many people who are not good at drawing can create great works through them.
So is Al painting gradually replacing human painting In the hot topic “Using a picture to prove that human artists will never be replaced by Al” online, many netizens uploaded their paintings to prove that humans are better than AI. “Though Al technology has developed rapidly, AI cannot fully replace humans. The warmth and inspiration in human creations are irreplaceable,” said Ding Daoshi, an independent analyst.
Another controversial issue is that there is no consensus (共识) of who owns the copyright of AI art. Some users have openly sold their AI paintings and earned money, but it is still a gray area about whether these artworks belong to users, the digital tool developers or even AI.
Ding Daoshi noted that the various sides should get together to debate the issue and come up with some accepted rules as soon as possible because AI is already penetrating deeply into the lives of human beings.
8. Why does the author mention “an elderly man” and “pets” in Paragraph 2
A. To show the popularity of AI art generators.
B. To illustrate the disadvantage of AI art generators.
C. To prove the significance of AI art generators.
D. To present the powerful function of AI art generators.
9. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about
A. The efficiency of AI art generators.
B. The benefits of AI art generators.
C. The popularity of AI art generators.
D. The functions of AI art generators.
10. What is a controversial issue about AI painting besides its copyright
A. Whether human artworks will be replaced by AI artworks.
B. Who AI artworks will really belong to.
C. Whether human artists are better than AI art generators.
D. How AI painting can play a supportive role.
11. What does the underlined part “a gray area” in Paragraph 5 refer to
A. A done deal. B. A give-and-take attitude.
C. An ill-defined situation. D. A hard-to-get game.
D
Many of the foods we regularly eat in our daily lives come from plants, which are essential for our survival on the “blue planet.” But what about the few people who live — although for a short span of time — in space Is it possible for them to grow plants on board the spaceship and be self-sufficient for weeks on end Yes, it is.
In fact, astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) ate the first space-grown salad (red romaine lettuce) on August 10, 2015. Even in a well-controlled environment like on the ISS, growing a plant in space is not an easy task. Traditionally, roots grow and spread downwards due to gravity. Still, in space, where the effect of gravity is negligible (忽略不计的), things change.
Roots grow in all directions in space. Other nutrients and water, which are essential for the growth of a plant, float all over the place! Can you imagine a plant floating in a spaceship, with its roots sticking out in every direction like the tentacles of a slimy sea creature surrounded by water and other nutrients
Therefore, keeping this entire system going is very important. To achieve this, NASA astronauts Rick Mastracchio and Steve Swanson set up a special container named “Veggie” a few years ago, specifically designed for “space gardening” on the ISS.
Veggie contains “plant pillows”, which are essentially bags of fertilizer and dirt released in a controlled manner to facilitate plant growth. In the bags, small wicks (棉芯) are installed that absorb water. Seeds are glued to the wicks and arranged in the correct position so that their roots grow unidirectionally (downward) and ‘push out’ of the bag. For the plants to grow properly (i. e. , upward), LED lights shine above the plants, provide light for the shoots and support photosynthesis (the process by which plants prepare their food) for proper plant growth.
Space agencies worldwide are striving to develop more advanced methods and procedures to enable astronauts to safely grow and eat vegetables from space-grown vegetables.
12. What does paragraph 2 mainly suggest
A. Astronauts want to live a sustainable life.
B. Space-grown plants might take more efforts.
C. Plants have been successfully grown in space.
D. ISS makes it possible for plants to grow at will.
13. Why is Veggie set up
A. To honor someone.
B. To keep a system going.
C. To start up an enterprise.
D. To solve nutrient problem.
14. How does Veggie work
A. By turning to LED lights.
B. By positioning wicks upward.
C. By absorbing nutrition from dirt.
D. By providing necessary facilities.
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. ISS have astronauts work to grow food in space
B. NASA strives to make space gardening possible
C. Space agencies commit themselves to food safety
D. Food growth enables spaceships to be self-reliable

Maria and Peter lived in a coastal city. The greatest pleasure in summer for them was to swim at their local beach after school. But one day they started to lose their enthusiasm for swimming in the waters. More often than not, they would find plastic bags thrown on the beach. Worse still, as they swam in the water, some plastic bags would float around them and even stick to their legs when they walked to the shore.
They were upset and decided something needed to be done to stop the beautiful sea becoming consumed by waste. One weekend, Maria and Peter brought a big bag to the beach and determined to clean it up. Sweat streamed down from their forehead while they bent down and picked up the plastic bags. To their disappointment, after a day’s hard work, there were still many plastic bags lying on the beach or floating in the water. Going home with aching legs and arms, Maria and Peter were almost defeated by a strong sense of failure.
That night over dinner with their parents, the pair ate silently. Noticing their low spirits, Mother asked gently, “You two looked so down. What happened ” Exchanging glances with Peter, Maria replied in a low voice, “It’s those annoying plastic bags. We tried to clean up but it was just impossible.” Understanding the pair’s disappointment, their father patted them on the back and comforted, “Well, it’s really hard for just two of you to fix such a big problem.” “Just two of us.” complained Maria and Peter, looking at each other. Suddenly, an idea lashed through their minds, their eyes shining with excitement.“Yes, that’s the point! We should make more people aware of the problem and encourage them to take action!” the pair said in chorus.

第二节 One possible version
Quickly finishing their dinner, the pair went upstairs and started planning. Maria and Peter decided to take advantage of the Internet. “Maybe we can write an article to arouse people's awareness.” Maria proposed. “Good idea! We can also make a video!" Peter added. The next few hours witnessed their heated discussion and growing confidence in a clean and beautiful coast. The next day, they went to the beach and filmed a short video showing plastic bags lying on the beach and floating in the sea. Peter, who was good at writing, wrote an article talking about the present situation of the beach and asking people to take part in the clean-up.
Excited and nervous, they posted the video and article on WeChat. To their amazement, their post went viral online immediately. Countless comments flooded in saying how heartbroken they were when looking at the polluted beach and ocean. What amazed Maria and Peter more was that numerous people in their community, encouraged by their efforts, offered to join in their clean-up. More and more people came to the beach to collect plastic bags and they also appealed to others to avoid throwing or using plastic bags. A year later, with their joint and continuous effort, the coast regained its beauty and Maria and Peter regained their long-awaited pleasure.

They can get some professional knowledge of special plants.(他们可以获得一些特殊植物的专业知识)指出游客可以从导游那里获得的相关特殊植物的知识,承接上文,引出下文,而且E项中的They指代空前的a group of people,符合上下文语境。故选E项。
【17题详解】
根据空前“Many people appreciate being able to observe different plant species. In some cases, these people are gardeners themselves.(许多人喜欢能够观察到不同的植物种类。在某些情况下,这些人自己就是园丁)”可知,许多植物爱好者在一些情况下自己就是园丁,根据空后“These plant lovers will often try to find chances to visit gardens while traveling or even when they’re closer to home.(这些植物爱好者经常会在旅行时或离家较近的时候找机会参观花园)”可知,这些植物爱好者经常会在旅行时或离家较近的时候找机会参观花园,空处承上启下,所以空处应该讲的是这些植物爱好者在其他情况下的身份是什么,B项In others, they’re simply common people enjoying plants.(在其他情况下,他们只是欣赏植物的普通人)指出在其他情况下这些植物爱好者仅仅是欣赏植物的普通人,承接上文,引出下文,而且B项中的In others与上文的In some cases对应,they指代下文的These plant lovers,符合上下文语境。故选B项。
【18题详解】
根据空前“In some communities, gardening is a popular hobby, with many homeowners spending time cultivating impressive gardens in their yards. One common type of garden tourism is the garden walk. A community group will publish a list of impressive gardens along with a map.(在一些社区,园艺是一种流行的爱好,许多房主花时间在他们的院子里培育令人印象深刻的花园。
根据空后“These include completing research on famous gardens before traveling and then starting garden visits in his journey. Another choice is to book individual tours.(这些措施包括在旅行前完成对著名花园的研究,然后在旅行中开始参观花园。另一种选择是预订个人游)”可知,此处讲的是个人参观花园的一些选择,所以空处应该讲相对于团体旅游来说一个独立的旅行者也有一些花园旅游的选择,G项If a traveler prefers independence, he can still have some garden tourism choices.(如果一个旅行者喜欢独立,他仍然可以有一些花园旅游的选择)指出一个喜欢独立的旅行者仍然有一些花园旅游的选择,概括全段内容,符合上下文语境。故选G项。
