1.阅读下列短文,根据短文中的信息回答问题。(每个回答不超过7个词)
The days passed and the river went down.
"I think I'll go to the town and get some news." I told Jim one morning.
"Be careful, Huck." Jim said, "The people in St. Petersburg know you and they think that you're dead. Why don't you put on the dress and pretend(假装) to be a girl "
So I did as Jim said.
I took the canoe to the town. Very soon, I met a woman and she told me that someone would catch a runaway.
This wasn't good news for Jim. I hurried back to the cave to tell him.
We set off down the river for the town of Cairo. In order to protect Jim, we preferred to travel at night rather than travel in the day. What's more, we covered the raft with leaves and branches during the day.
We never got to Cairo. So we continued drifting down the river because the raft couldn't sail back up the river against the current. We had a few adventures on the way, but nobody caught us. Our life on the raft was very pleasant and I was enjoying myself. During the day we made a camp under the trees and slept. As soon as it got dark, we set off again. After dinner, we swam in the moonlight or lay on our backs, looking at the stars.
Then one morning something happened and our lives changed.
I was paddling up a side river to look for berries for breakfast when two men suddenly ran out of the woods.
"Help! Some men want to kill us!" they shouted.
I felt sorry for them. I told them to get onto the raft and we paddled back to the camp. They were both wearing dirty old clothes, but they called themselves a Duke and the King. I didn't believe them. I knew immediately that they were frauds(骗子), but I didn't say anything.

2.A cup of tea一杯茶
体裁 说明文 难度 ★★★ 词数 228
China's traditional tea making has entered UNESCO cultural heritage list. It includes knowledge and skills of tea planting, picking tea leaves, drinking and sharing of tea, and so on.
Since ancient times, Chinese people have been planting, picking, making and drinking tea. Tea makers have developed six kinds of tea: green, yellow, dark, white, oolong and black tea.
Chinese people have enjoyed tea drinking for more than 4,000 years. It is said that a Chinese man called Shennong discovered tea by accident. For a long time, tea was used as medicine. The earliest record about tea as a drink appeared in the Western Han Dynasty. Chinese tea culture became popular during the Tang Dynasty because of a famous person, Lu Yu. His book Cha Jing is all about tea, from growing tea trees to tasting tea, and the history of Chinese tea. In the following hundreds of years, tea culture spread to other countries from China and it is now loved by people all across the world.
In China, there is an old saying, "Firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce(酱), vinegar(醋) and tea are the seven necessaries to begin a day." Though tea is the last on the list, it is no less important in our lives. Making tea, smelling tea, tasting tea and enjoying tea is not only the tea ceremony but also a Chinese traditional culture.

3.I was careful to behave as well as possible, to persuade the King to give me my freedom. Lilliputians soon began to lose their fear of me. They called me the Man-Mountain. Sometimes I lay down and let them dance on my hand, and from time to time children came to play games in my hair. By now I was able to speak their language well.
One day the King invited me to watch the regular entertainments, which were greatly enjoyed by him, his family, and his lords and ladies. I was most interested in the rope-dancing. A very thin rope is fixed thirty centimetres above the ground. People who want to become the King's most important officials jump and dance on this rope, and whoever jumps highest without falling gets the best job. Sometimes the King orders his lords to dance on the rope, to show that they can still do it. This sport is, of course, rather dangerous, and there are occasional (偶尔的) deaths as a result. It seems a strange way of choosing officials.
There was another interesting entertainment. The King holds a stick in front of him, and sometimes moves it up and down. One by one, people come up to him and jump over the stick or crawl under it. They go on jumping and crawling as the King moves the stick. The winner is the one who jumps and crawls for the longest time, and he receives a blue ribbon (缎带) to wear round his waist. The second best receives a red ribbon, and the third best gets a green one. Many of the Lilliput lords wear their ribbons proudly at all times. I had certainly never seen entertainment like this in any of the countries I had visited before.

4. Life skills are important and should be taught as part of labor education (劳动教育). On June 3, 2020, the Ministry of Education (MOE) (教育部) gave a revised course for high schools across the county. Labor education, also called education on the hardworking spirit, covers housework, school labor and community voluntary services.
"Labor education must be carried out with the purpose to develop the view of the world, life and values and develop an interest in doing housework." said Zheng Fuzhi, a Vice-Minister of Education.
According to China Youth Daily, the labor course will take six credits (学分)—the same as English and physics, Voluntary service, as part of labor education, would take two credits. The MOE also asks schools to make sure 40 hours of voluntary service during the full three school years.
According to Xinhua, the young in our country do too little housework and that they think labor jobs aren't important. Because of a lot of school stress, schools think the educational course is more important, and parents sometimes think that housework wastes their kids' time.
According to a survey, primary and middle school students in China only spend 12 minutes a day on housework, compared with 72 minutes in the US, 42 minutes in South Korea and 30 minutes in France.
However, doing housework does not take young people's attention away. Instead, it is necessary for developing a strong working spirit. "The earlier you start, the better..." the writer of How to Raise an Adult said.

5. Do you ever feel like you are just rushing from one subject to another When things happen so fast, maybe you can t understand clearly what you are doing or learning, so it is important to stop yourself to think about what you have been doing or learning.
Self-reflection(反省) means slowing down and calming yourself, including calming your mind. Some people like to do self-reflection only in their mind. Others keep a diary. What s more, taking notes is also OK. Each method (方法) works. You can follow the steps to do self-reflection.
First, choose the right time to do it. School textbooks are made up of units of study. This makes it easier to begin self-reflection. Look for time when you finish a unit of study. Sometimes you know it s the time because there is some kind of test. Use these natural breaks to stop and do self-reflection.
Then, find a quiet place and take out your reflection diary. Write down some notes on the new things that you learned in the unit.
Finally, think about things that you are not sure of. Maybe you learned a new way to work out a maths problem, but you re not sure when to use it. Writing down your questions will help you remember to look for answers the next time you are working with the same topic.
Successful students always know self-reflection is important. If you have never taken the time to do self-reflection, try it now.

According to some old Chinese stories, there once was an ancient emperor named Shennong. At that time, people could not tell the difference between medicinal and poisonous (有毒的) plants. When they got sick, there was no medicine to treat their illnesses. Many sick people could only wait for death.
To save his people, Shennong decided to find and test out different plants. He and his followers set out on a journey in search of medicinally effective plants. Once, they saw a large forest on a high cliff (悬崖) from a distance. There must be many different kinds of plants, but they couldn't find a way to the cliff. Suddenly, they saw some monkeys climbing along the vines and trees hanging down from the cliff. Shennong was inspired by the scene. He asked his followers to cut down the tree trunks and vines. Together they built scaffold (脚手架), with its help, they climbed to the cliff and collected many valuable plants.
Each time the team found a new type of plant, Shennong would taste it himself. Some plants made him sleepy. Some caused him to suffer pains in his stomach. Some made him tremble (颤抖) all over. After searching and testing over a long period of time, he and his followers discovered hundreds of medicinal plants.
As they continued their search, the team found a plant with small yellow flowers on a mountain. When a young man reached for it, the plant moved like a worm. Shennong picked off one piece from the plant in order to taste it. Other people tried to stop him, but Shennong said calmly, "It looks like a medicinal plant. I have to test it, or some people may misuse it."
Suddenly, Shennong's face turned pale and he fell on the ground. Blood flowed from his mouth and nose. Even after he was given the leaves from other medicinal plants, he was still not able to recover. The emperor soon took his last breath. People covered him with thousands of flowers. From then on, they called him the "Emperor of Medicine".

One day, while our cab was waiting outside a park, a dirty old cab drove up beside us. The horse was an old chestnut. Suddenly she looked at me and said, "Black Beauty, is that you "
It was Ginger! But how different she was! She was thin, and tired from too much hard work. She looked miserable (痛苦的) and she had a bad cough. She told me her sad story.
She had a year's rest and then a gentleman bought her. For a while she got on very well. Then one day after a long gallop (飞奔) her old problem returned, and her back hurt again. They bought and sold her several times after that.
"Then at last," she said, "a man who has a lot of cabs and horses bought me. I work hard, all week, with no rest on Sundays. I wish I was dead."
I was very sad to hear this. I put my nose up to Ginger's, but I didn't know what to say to her. She said, "Black Beauty, you are my only friend."

A short time after this I saw a cart with a dead horse in it. It was a chestnut horse with a long, thin neck. I think it was Ginger. I hope so, for then all her problems were over.
