What is a news report
A news reports is about something that is happening now or that just recently happened. Current issues, events, crimes, and investigations are good subjects for news reports.
Tips on Writing a News Report
When writing a news report, it's important to concentrate on four elements: facts, context, impact, and emotion.
How you combine these four elements will determine the success of your news story.
The facts answer the 5Ws and H: who, what, where, when, why, and how. It’s important to make sure the facts are accurate and reasonably complete. If you have to write a report before you get all the facts, then say so in the report.
Context provides the circumstances surrounding the facts of the news story.

Context
Impact keeps readers in tune beyond the headline and the lead, or opening sentence. What are the ramifications or potential consequences of this news story How will this series of events affect me and my loved ones
Impact
Evoking emotion is the magic of news reporting. Writers must walk the fine line between cold, hard facts and a tug on emotional heart strings. But we must let the readers decide for themselves. For example, the American Press Institute points out we must not dictate the audience's feelings by writing, “In a shocking, new development…” Rather, we should let them choose to be shocked on their own.

On 21 September, the first Community Street Festival in our city was held on Redwood Street. The festival was highly successful, attracting over 10,000 people from over 20 communities. The weather was good, although it rained heavily in the morning. The performers were rather good and well received by the public.
People attending the event were mainly families. There were people of all ages.Most of them came from seven nearby communities. There were a wide variety of acts, most of which were singing and dancing.The acts appealing to children were particularly popular. The highlight of the festival was the music and dance by a group of children.

It’s important to:
have an attractive title and a brief lead;
include the who, when, where, what, why and how of the event;
use formal and clear language.

Editing. Edit your report in pairs. Then share what you have written in class.
Before your news report would be published, you’d have to edit it to make sure your facts are clear and your sentences are complete.
Exchange your writing with your partner and offer suggestions to improve drafts.
After editing, writers will make changes to drafts and either rewrite or print a clean copy of the work.
Prepare a final draft of your work to submit.

A Cross-Country Running Race
Last Sunday, a 5-kilometre cross-country running
race was held in our school. All the students and teachers in our school participated in the activity.
The race started from the school gate and ended at the foot of the South Hill, covering five kilometres all together. Eventually, all the contestants spared no effort to finish the race.
This race gives us a good opportunity to have a deeper understanding of great patience as well as building up our bodies in terms of long-distance race. More importantly, we come to know it is our responsibility to challenge ourselves to a variety of hardships.
