教学重点: 1. Students will be able to master the structure of the passive voice with modal verbs.
教学难点: 1. How to use the passive voice with modal verbs to talk about rules. 2. How to change from the active voice to the passive voice.
教学过程
Step 1: Task 1 Task 1: when to use the passive voice and the active voice. 1. Fill in the blanks according to the poem Mom Knows Best. 2. Check the answers 3. Analyze the verbs in the short passage with the questions: Which sentences are in the passive voice Which sentences are in the active voice Why are they used like that Then conclude: 当主语和谓语构成主动关系时,用主动语态;当主语和谓语构成被动关系的时候,用被动语态。 4. Ask students to finish activity 4b in the textbook. Step 2. Task 2 Task 2: What is the difference between different kinds of the passive voice. 1. Ask students to observe three sentences and answer: why is different “be” used in each sentence 2. Help students to find out different sentence structure for different tenses. 一般现在时:is/am/are +done 一般过去时:was/were + done should +be +done 3. Ask students to read the sentences in the grammar focus and find more parts similar to should +be + done, and conclude the structure : modal verb + be + done. 4. Ask students to list more modal verbs like should, could, can, may, might, must, etc. 4. Ask students to finish the exercise of translation. Step 3. Task 3 Task 3: What are the basic forms of the structure modal verb + be + done Positive form: Teenagers should be allowed to take part-time jobs. Negative form: Teenagers shouldn’t be allowed to take part-time jobs. Yes-no question form: Should teenagers be allowed to take part-time jobs Yes, they should. No, they shouldn’t. modal verb + be + done modal verb +not+ be + done Modal verb + 主语+ be + done +… Step 4. Task 4 Task 4: How can we change from the active voice to the passive voice Review 一般现在时 You clean your bedroom every day. Your bedroom is cleaned every day. 一般过去时 You cleaned your bedroom yesterday. Your bedroom was cleaned yesterday. 2. with modal verbs: You must clean your bedroom every day. Your bedroom must be cleaned every day. 3. Students finish 4a in the textbook. Step 5. Task 5 Task 5: In what situation should the passive voice be used Ask students to observe three sentences with the questions: Do we know exactly who performs the action Do we need to know that Who is the sentence focused on 2. Conclude with the students: 当我们不知道谁是动作的执行者,或者没有必要说明谁是动作的执行者,或者只需要强调动作的承受者时,要用被动语态。For example, when we talk about rules. 3. Show a video A day with no rules and ask students what rules are mentioned in the video. 4. Students find the rules in the video and talk about what they think of them with modal verb + be + done. 5. Students watch the rest part of the video and then conclude: Nothing can be achieved without norms and standards. Respect the rules! Follow the rules! Step 6. Production 4c You and your friend are starting an English club. Make a list of rules about what should and should not be allowed. Show an example and ask students to do groupwork of 4. Then show their conversations. Step 7. Summary. Step 8. Homework 选做:Finish the exercises on the work sheet. 必做:Write a short report about your groupwork talking about club rules.
