You may hear about earthquakes, but do you know what to do

Before an earthquake It’s necessary to prepare yourself and your

During an earthquake It’s important for each of you to stay calm. If
you are indoors, quickly move to a safe place in the room such as under a
strong desk or a strong table. The purpose is to protect yourself from falling
objects. Stay away from windows, large mirrors, heavy furniture and so
on. If you are cooking, turn off the gas.
If you are outdoors, move to an open area like a playground. Move
away from buildings, bridges and trees. If you are driving, stop the car as
soon as possible, staying away from bridges and tall buildings. Stay in your
car.

After an earthquake Once the shaking has stopped, don’t run out of
the building at once. It’s better to wait and leave when it is safe. Check
around you and help the people who are in trouble. If your building is badly
broken, you should leave it. If you smell gas, get everyone outside and
open windows and doors. If you can do these safely, turn off the gas. Report
it to the gas company.

Last summer, we had a terrible disaster in our hometown.

A big
flood happened because it kept raining heavily for days. Our houses
came down and people ran in all directions in a hurry. What was
worse, some people even lost their lives in this flood.
Luckily, many kind people helped us. They provided places for
us to live and helped us build houses again. Many volunteers helped
clean the streets.
I think we’d better not cut down trees because trees can help
prevent floods. We should plant more trees. We should also help others in
need. If everyone can give a helping hand, our world will be better.

四、 阅读理解。
Maybe you know floods, earthquakes, sandstorms and so on. But
have you heard of typhoons(台风)? Typhoons are some of the worst
storms, usually around the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea. Most of
them happen in July, August and September.

How does a typhoon happen? When lots of sea water gets hot in the
summer sun, it evaporates(蒸发) into the air. This makes the air warmer.
When the air gets warm enough, it starts to move higher up into the sky.
Then cooler air around it rushes in. After the air gets warmer, it starts to
move quickly, making the wind. The wind goes in circles(圆圈) and it
keeps moving higher in the sky. The warmer the air gets, the quicker the
wind moves. And when the wind moves faster than 30 metres a second, a
typhoon begins.

A typhoon has two parts. One is called the “eye”. In the eye, the
wind does not move so fast. The other part is the wall of clouds around the
eye. Here are the strongest winds and hardest rain.
Typhoons are very dangerous. Once the typhoon killed 6,100 people in
the Philippines(菲律宾). More people went missing. What can we do
when a typhoon hits?
☆ Stay inside. Close all the windows and stay away from them.
☆ Try to bring all of your things inside. Strong winds can even blow
away your bikes!
☆ Listen to the radio or watch TV for important information.
