三、 (2023·海安市海陵中学模拟改编)阅读与回答问题。
I was very nervous as I waited to interview one of the most successful
women of our times:Kathy Howe. I was just a young reporter and she was
not only a popular singer but also a famous actress, starring in many
movies.

As soon as the door opened, however, and her slim figure(身材)
appeared, I immediately relaxed. She looked great, with her kind brown
eyes, her excellent black hair, and her beautiful smile. “How do you
manage to look so good and live life in the fast lane(快节奏) at the same
time?” I asked her.
She laughed, and her whole face shone.“It’s tiring to be famous. You
have to work hard, be on time, and take care of yourself. Also, you have
to go to Hollywood parties, be taken photos for magazines, and give
interviews!”

As we talked, I found out that Kathy is a very warm and kind person
and that her family is more important to her than being a star. At the same
time, she wants to do everything as well as she can, so she sometimes
seems to be hard.
When I asked her if she thought herself lucky, she didn’t answer
immediately. Then she said, “Well, perhaps I’m lucky, but I also work
very hard, and being famous has weak points too. In fact, I’ve missed out
on lots of things I really enjoy doing, like spending time with my
daughter.”
I felt sad when it was time to leave, as Kathy is a wonderful woman. I
have never met anyone else who has such a busy life, and still manages to
look so beautiful.

1. How did the writer feel before the interview began?

2. What did Kathy Howe look like when she entered?

3. Kathy Howe thinks being famous is tiring, doesn’t she?

4. What does Kathy Howe think of her family?

Nervous.
She looked great, with her kind brown eyes, her excellent black
hair, and her beautiful smile.
Yes, she does.
She thinks her family is more important to her than being a star.

5. What do you think of Kathy Howe’s life?(请自拟一句话作答)

I think it’s tiring because she needs to be taken photos for magazines
and give interviews.(言之有理即可)

四、 阅读理解。
Boris, a foreign student at Communication University of China,
often shares his experiences of Chinese culture on his vlog(视频博客).
In one video, for example, Boris shared how he had learned the
Chinese word “dongxi”. He translated each part separately into “east
west”. And he introduced one theory about how “dongxi” came to mean
“things”. He told people that all marketplaces in ancient Chinese cities
were set up along a single road that ran from east to west. So when you say
“qu mai dongxi”, you’d be saying, “I’m going to buy things.”

Some other videos show him reading Chinese poems and performing
kung fu in traditional Chinese costume, which are quite welcome among his
followers.
“Many of my followers are learning Chinese,” Boris said. “But
sadly, they know little about Chinese culture and the country.”

Like many foreigners, Boris once believed that all Chinese could
perform kung fu, flying onto roofs and walking over walls. He thought the
country was not that developed. But after he got a scholarship(奖学金) to
study in China, his view changed. “China has entered a new period, but
many people’s impressions of China are still stuck in the 1970s,” Boris
said. “That’s why I started to shoot vlogs to share Chinese culture.”
Until now, Boris has posted more than 40 Chinese culture vlogs
online. But making these vlogs is not easy. Take reading the poem “Second
Farewell to Cambridge” by Xu Zhimo as an example.

“I can understand and read every word in the poem,” Boris said.
“But to touch readers, I need to use proper feelings while reading.” So he
needed to look up much background information and make his feelings match
each part of the poem.
Though shooting these vlogs takes lots of time, the young man feels
proud that his vlogs have inspired many people. Boris said that he wanted to
continue bridging the differences between two cultures. “This goal may not
be achieved easily, but I will spare no effort to do my part.”

四、 阅读理解。
I guess you could say that acting is in my blood as my mother and my
father are both actors. My grandfather was a theatre musician and my
grandmother was a singer and dancer. I suppose it seemed natural for me to
perform for family and friends and I certainly wasn’t shy while growing up. I
actually used to enjoy the attention and I still have many enjoyable memories
of the whole family singing and dancing together.

That’s why it came as no surprise that I started going to drama school
from the young age of six. I attended classes there every Saturday for almost
10 years. We were taught how to sing, dance, and act, so I was quite
good in my teens.
Once I’d left school, I went to drama school in London full-time to do
a degree. I must say that at that time, and for a period of about six months,
I needed a break. I had spent my whole childhood acting and it felt like I had
missed so much fun.

So I started to party with friends, dance the night away and sleep late
most mornings. It was only when my teacher gave me a final warning that I
realized it was time to stop. Partying was great but I was about to lose
everything I had worked so hard for all these years.

After the shock of that realization, I went back to classes and
workshops and soon after, I ended up graduating with a first. I had always
been confident about my acting skills but it was then that I felt truly ready to
get myself out there professionally. A few months later, Royal Shakespeare
Company gave me my first real role and I acted together with some great
names in the world of the stage. Now, of course, I’m better known for my
Hollywood roles and people will probably be amazed to hear that I started my
acting career as a Shakespearean actor. But it’s true. This is how it all started.
