“Would you like to go see Rhys and take him for ice cream ”my dad asked; I froze. I love my younger brother, but it had been well over a year and a half since I had been in public with Rhys. The thought made me feel anxious.
Rhys is 14 and severely diagnosed with a rare genetic mutation (突变) at birth. When I was young, I accompanied my mom or dad to pick him up from his new long-term care home at the end of our busyweekends to spend some time with him, normally at our home.
After picking Rhys up and taking the short car trip, we arrived at the ice cream store. I held onto Rhys in his chair while Dad placed our order.
Rhys loves to grab things. He grabbed a woman walking by. I apologized immediately, full of embarrassment.
After getting our ice cream, we sat outside. At this point, I was distressed and just wanted to go home. Dad could tell that I was upset. He silently understood and let me be. But then I saw a father and daughter walking along the plaza toward the ice cream store. The girl’s movements seemed strangely familiar. I noticed she was behaving similarly to Rhys.
Watching those two flipped a switch for me. I realized I wasn’t the only one in this situation:out in public with a family member with special needs. I smiled as I watched the father and daughter just enjoying their day and not focusing on what others thought. They acted just like every other“typical”family. It occurred to me that I shouldn’t let what others think about Rhys ruin our time together.
There is so much uncertainty with Rhys’rare genetic mutation. We aren’t certain what challenges he will face in the future. With each visit, I notice how much we have both changed, whether it’s his little mustache coming in or my growing independence as I move to university. Rhys will always be my brother. We are family. There is no shame in that.
24.How did the author feel when asked to go out with Rhys in public
A.Worried. B.Excited. C.Surprised. D.Heartbroken.
25.What behavior of Rhys embarrassed the author in public
A.Shouting loudly. B.Falling off his chair.
C.Grabbing a passerby. D.Holding the author’s arm.
26.What does the underlined phrase “flipped a switch”in the second to last paragraph most probably mean
A.Inspired someone to find joy in life. B.Made someone see things differently.
C.Helped someone make a quick choice. D.Provided someone with useful advice.
27.What might the author do after seeing the father and daughter at the plaza
A.Help Rhys to be more independent. B.Show Rhys how to act around others.
C.Look for more quiet time alone with Rhys. D.Ignore others’judgments when with Rhys.

When Jane Goodall was young, reading and exploring nature were her ideas of fun. Her mother encouraged her to learn and ask questions. Goodall dreamed of seeing the habitats of her favorite animals on her own.
In 1957, Goodall visited a farm in Kenya, Africa. There, she met a famous paleoanthropologist (古人类学家), Louis Leakey. He was looking for someone to study chimpanzees, which could tell us about early human history. Once he got to know Goodall, he knew she was the perfect person for the job.
Goodall arrived in Tanzania, East Africa, in 1960, and journeyed to the Gombe Stream Game Reserve. She learned early on that studying chimpanzees wouldn’t be easy. To observe them up close, she had to take months to gain their trust. To her, the chimpanzees were complex creatures with lives surprisingly similar to humans’. She rejected the practice of identifying chimpanzees by numbers and gave each of them a human name. Goodall was observing chimpanzees she’d named David Greybeard and Goliath. She watched as they made tools out the roots of grass to pick termites (白蚁) out of a nest. Until then, people thought humans were the only species that used tools. Because of Goodall’s discovery, chimpanzees are now accepted as intelligent and social animals.
Goodall established the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977 to provide conservation and environmental education. In the late 1980s, her focus changed to something much larger. Deforestation (滥伐森林) and climate change were affecting the world’s natural habitats. The plants that the chimpanzees depended on for food were in danger. The fight she began against habitat loss continues today, through animal preserves and research sites.
Throughout her life, Goodall’s work has protected the lives of people and animals around the world. And she encourages young people to join this struggle for a better world. Goodall says that the world will be a better place if people do some help.
28.Why did Louis Leakey pick Jane Goodall to study chimpanzees

A.Chimpanzees could use simple tools.
B.Chimpanzees could follow humans’ commands.
C.Chimpanzees had the ability to swim and fish for food.
D.Chimpanzees lived in large societies similar to humans.
30.What made Jane Goodall change her focus according to paragraph 4
A.The reasons for chimpanzees’ using tools. B.The Jane Goodall Institute’s establishment.
C.The change of her main interest. D.Fewer habitats and unfriendly climate change.
31.What is the text mainly about
A.Jane Goodall’s early career.
B.Jane Goodall’s research techniques.
C.Jane Goodall’s focus on chimpanzees’ tool use.

Can a robot provide helpful answers to your health concerns That’s the goal of Reach Digital Health, an organization that uses mobile technologies, like text messages, to provide helpful health-care information and guidance to people across Africa who can’t easily reach a health-care provider. The organization isn’t just in South Africa. It’s working in eight other countries in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, through teamwork with the World Health Organization starting in 2020, they’ve enlarged their services across the globe and set up programs in Bangladesh and Indonesia.

37 And that can be good. A little stress helps the body face a challenge. But too much stress can take the fun out of a sport and make it hard to perform. If you think there might be too much stress around competing, talk to your parents and coach. Making some changes can help. If you have too much going on, think about limiting practice time or only doing one sport or activity per season.

You can try to take a deep breath and hold it in for about 5 seconds, then release (释放) it slowly. Repeat those five times. You can also think positively and develop positive self-talk, like saying “I learn from my mistakes.” “I’m in control of my feelings.” “I can make this goal!” to help keep the negative (消极的) thoughts away.
Keep stress levels down when you aren’t competing. 39 . Besides, doing something fun and relaxing is great, such as taking a break from competing and going for a walk, riding a bike, seeing a movie, or hanging out with friends.
Finally don’t forget that no one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes in sports. It is part of the game. 40
Whether you play on the school team or at a weekend pick-up game, the point is to have fun. By keeping that as the first place, you can learn to deal with the stress that is a natural part of competition.
A.Competing always leads to some stress
B.So it’s important to know how to deal with it
C.Why not be quick to forgive mistakes and move on
D.If you have too much going on, think about doing more exercising

The whole class burst into applause! Ms McCormack presented Karie with her prize. Karie grinned as she read the label on the box: To Karie Carter; for her perfect first-quarter score in spelling.

66.Let’s go green now!
With the development of economy, many human activities have led to a series of environmental issues, such as air pollution and resource reduction. Therefore, it is important for us to adopt a green lifestyle.
There are various ways to achieve this. Firstly, we can make use of reusable items to reduce waste. In addition, we should consider alternative modes of transportation such as cycling or walking, which not only reduce carbon emissions but also promote physical health. Finally, protecting natural resources like water and electricity is crucial in our daily lives.
I strongly urge everyone to actively participate in our upcoming environmental protection activity themed “Let's go green now”.

67.Later Dad came in with excitement. “Where's your spelling test, Jane ” Dad asked eagerly. Jane looked away from her father. Anyhow, she reluctantly went to her room and pulled out the test paper. Dad fixed his eyes on the paper, a pleasant smile lifting the corner of his mouth. “I'm proud of you, sweetie. We need to celebrate it tonight.” Jane pretended to be smiling all the time. Meanwhile a sense of guilt rose inside her. Feeling she didn't deserve the prize, she had a sleepless night for the first time in her life.
The next morning, Jane went to school earlier than usual. Ms. McCormack was unlocking the classroom. “You're an early bird.” Ms. McCormack said. Jane's hands trembled. She handed her teacher the spelling paper and the dictionary. “I can't keep this. I misspelled 'honestly' and you didn't catch it.” For a moment, Ms. McCormack stood quietly reading the label on the dictionary. Then picking up her pen, she crossed out the word “perfect” and wrote “honest” before returning the dictionary to Jane. “Keep this. But for honesty.”
