It’s hard to say what is normal and what is weird where food is concerned -it all depends on the taste of the individual and which part of the world you come from. One person’s nightmare is another person’s delicacy. Here are a few of the strangest types of food from around the world.
Haggis (Scotland)
A world-famous dish, haggis is made from the parts of a sheep many people would throw away. The heart, lungs and liver are mixed together with onion, spices and oatmeal, then put inside a sheep’s stomach and boiled for three hours.
Sannakji (Korea)
Now that Japanese sushi is popular around the world, many people are used to eating raw fish. But Sannakji is different. It consists of octopus which is sliced up while alive. The octopus is then cooked in sesame oil and served with a dipping sauce. If you don’t chew the octopus carefully, it’s possible that the tiny suction cups on tentacles (触须) can stick to your throat.
Fugu (Japan)
Fugu is a famous Japanese fish filled with enough of the poison substance to be deadly. Chefs have to be trained before they can prepare the fish. Fugu actually tastes quite mild. The excitement is in surviving the experiences of eating it.
Frogs’ legs (France)
Frogs’ legs are a popular dish in France, usually served with garlic. They’re said to taste like chicken, but some people find them to be too chewy. If you’re feeling brave, you can try frogs’ legs for yourself—just be sure to remove the skin and bones before you eat them.
21. What do you need to pay attention to while eating Sannakji
A. Eating carefully and slowly. B. Boiling it with dipping sauce.
C. Slicing up the dead octopus. D. Preparing a cup of sesame oil.
22. Which dish offers diners a thrill of danger

Standing in his boat, Andrew had just finished lunch when he spotted a boat which was headed directly toward his boat and didn’t change course as it got closer. Andrew couldn’t see anybody behind the wheel. “It’s a ghost (幽灵) boat!” he shouted. Andrew controlled his boat alongside the mystery boat. “Hey! Hey!” he screamed. No reply. A horrifying new thought took shape: the captain had gone below deck (甲板) and suffered a heart attack.
As Andrew eased his boat alongside the ghost boat, Andrew’s son, Jack leapt onto the deck of the mystery boat. Getting to his feet, he stepped into the pilothouse and threw the engine into neutral (空挡) as Andrew tied the two boats together.
On the ghost boat, Jack called the Coast Guard after finding a wallet with the ID of a man named Sascha Scheller. “Can you see his GPS ” the operator asked. They told the GPS coordinates (坐标) by using the build-in display beside the wheel. which had tracked Scheller’s course and marked waypoints of his route.
After the operator signed off, Jack and Andrew resolved to do something to help. According to the GPS, they reached Scheller’s final waypoint. Unexpectedly, Jack spotted something in the water— a boot! He fished it out, and, moments later, he found another one. Jack shouted “A pair of fishing boots!” Meanwhile, something clicked in Andrew’s mind. “If I fell overboard, I’d kick off my boots to swim. So, we are looking for a swimmer, not a body.”
Suddenly, they heard someone was screaming and slamming in the water. Andrew slowed the boats and turned them directly toward that sound. After releasing the ghost boat, Andrew rushed forward. “Glad to see you,” Andrew said, pulling the man onto the deck, who had been in the water for several hours, “Are you Scheller ” “Yes. I couldn’t believe my own boat had come to rescue me,” the man replied.
24. Why did Andrew think of the boat as a “ghost boat”

In recent years, much of my life as a consumer has shifted to what I like to call background spending. As I’ve subscribed to more apps and streaming platforms, significant sums of my money tend to drift away each month without my ever thinking about it.
Think of it as automated capitalism (资本主义). Spending without the hassle of spending. Purchase without action or thought. Indeed, economists estimate that buyers forgetting to cancel subscriptions can increase a business’s income by as much as 200 percent. We’re too lazy or busy to even notice or cancel!
“Hand over your credit card details and let us take care of the rest,” these companies assure us. But by agreeing to this trade, we’ve become passive consumers who are allowing the balance of capitalism to shift away from us. We have given up one of our key powers as individuals: our control. And this laziness generates more laziness because most of us can’t be bothered with conducting regular reviews of our subscription spending.
If we’re going to rebalance the wheels of capitalism just a little, we could do worse than to support a recently proposed rule from the Federal Trade Commission. In March, the organization suggested a “click to cancel” condition that would require companies to make it just as easy to end a subscription as to sign up for one. No more being forced to go into the gym to end your membership if you were able to join online! Additionally, under this extra layer of consumer protection, businesses would need to remind subscribers annually about their membership before these are automatically renewed. This rule would mean any background spending would, if only just for one moment a year, be at the forefront of your mind.
If all that doesn’t work, I have another idea: an app designed to keep track of your various subscriptions and background spending so you can better control your finances. Oh wait, those already exist— for a recurring (再发生) fee, of course.
28. What does the underlined word “hassle” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Consideration. B. Approval. C. Trouble D. Rejection.
29. What do passive consumers tend to do
A. Subscribe to various apps.
B. Ignore subscription review.
C. Lose the balance between earning and spending.
D. Reach an agreement with credit card companies.
30. What are subscription service providers expected to do in Paragraph 4
A. Remind consumers to renew their membership.
B. Allow customers to cancel subscription easily.
C. Reconsider the proposal of federal government.
D. Discontinue releasing new subscription services.
31. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Background spending needs to be controlled.
B. Subscriptions to apps are generally hard to end.
C. Apps for tracking subscriptions should be designed.
D. Proposals to prevent automated capitalism are supported.
D
A troublesome arrhythmia called atrial fibrillation (AF) (心房颤动) represents an “emerging epidemic,” the global prevalence (患病率) of which is expected to double from 2010 to 2030.
Most AF patients are older than 65 and have known risk factors, particularly high blood pressure, obesity, and sleep disorder. Why cyclists, runners, and other athletes in otherwise perfect health are sometimes at risk is poorly understood. La Gerche is now studying this contradiction.
La Gerche’s study, called Pro@Heart, was launched in 2016. with coworkers in Australia and Belgium and so far includes nearly 500 top athletes who were between 16 and 23 years old when they enrolled. The study aims to follow them for at least 25 years and track changes to the heart, including its size and electrical conduction patterns. A separate arm is exploring AF prevalence in 128 former top competitive rowers between the ages of 45 and 80, along with a matched comparator group of people who are not competitive athletes.
The younger Pro@Heart subjects have shown some athletes’ hearts are so large that they get pushed up against the chest wall and the spine, which could cause cardiac inflammation (心脏炎症). Such inflammation has long been eyed as a potential AF driver. Pro@Heart’s older subjects, the retired rowers, has a shocking rate of AF: 20%, compared with 3% in the control group. Top rowers may have a higher AF risk than some other endurance athletes — perhaps because the sport attracts taller people. Height is a documented AF risk factor, though the reasons are still being explored. Another factor may be that rowers routinely train as much as 20 or 30 hours a week. But “How much exercise is too much ” La Gerche wonders. The answer isn’t clear, and it likely depends on other factors, including genetics.
One common prescription (处方) for athletes with AF is to cut down physical activity. These athletes “really don’t want to stop competing or stop training” if they don’t have to, Myrstad says. “It’s the most natural thing to ask the patient in front of you, ‘Do you have to run this marathon Can’t you just reduce the training ’” he says, “but I’m not sure it’s right.”
32. How does the author lead in the topic of the passage
A. By introducing a new experiment. B. By supposing a real-life situation.
C. By clarifying a common definition. D. By presenting an abnormal phenomenon.
33. What does “the separate arm” focus on in paragraph 3
A. The underlying physical drivers of AF. B. The comparison of AF occurrence rate.
C. The ongoing track changes of AF patients. D. The potential effects of diabetes and obesity.
34. Why is it easier for some athletes to have AF according to the study
A. Their heart size gives rise to a possible risk.
B. Their hearts are not conveniently positioned.
C. They can not control the intensity of training.
D. They are taller and heavier than ordinary people.
35. What does the athletes with AF feel about the common prescription
A. Unclear. B. Unconcerned. C. Approving. D. Doubtful.
第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2. 5 分,满分 12. 5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Harvest is truly one of the highlights of the season. This is when all of our efforts and attention get translated into a tangible finished product. As a grower, nothing makes me prouder than harvesting a successful crop. 36 To ensure quality is maintained all the way from field to fork, certain principles must be understood and followed through.
First of all, it is important to harvest each crop at the right stage of growth. Vegetables harvested before they are fully mature will be much less flavorful. 37 For some crops, it is easy to tell when they are at their freshest, and many can be quite forgiving. But for other crops, harvesting at the appropriate moment will make an enormous difference. The timing of cantaloupe (甜瓜) picking, for example, will determine whether the fruit is sweet or disappointing, while it won’t make a difference if you wait a few days to harvest the apples. 38
To further complicate things, the right moment to harvest a given vegetable is not necessarily consistent with market demand. 39 Vegetables such as broccoli (西兰花) and cucumbers, to name just a few, can be harvested at the peak of their quality and stored in the cold room for a few days before being sold.
40 Some vegetables must be cooled to slow their process of ripening. Otherwise, their freshness and nutritional value will suffer. This is why it is so important to harvest as early as possible in the morning, before the heat of the day sets in, and to cool the vegetables immediately with cold water and/or air from the cold room.
A. You just have to follow the habits of different crops.
B. That being said, harvest requires some special know-how.
C. Those harvested overripe will then have a shorter shelf life.
D. This is one reason why a cold room is critical in a market garden.
E. Although it varies from crop to crop, it’s always better later than earlier.
F. Moreover, a well-functioning cool system is in badly need for keeping things fresh.
G. The other important thing to remember is that vegetables go on “living” even after being picked.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之成为一篇完整的短文。
As Papá fell sound asleep, Catalina slid from her bed and felt her way to the front door. The girl waited a moment to see if any of her family would wake, but nobody stirred. She tiptoed upstairs to her “Observatory”, longing for drinking in deep lungfuls of the clear night air under the bright stars.
She polished her dear telescope, which was presented by her grandpa, the only one to support her dream. She assembled (组装) it, disassembled it and reassembled it repeatedly, knowing its parts very well.
Through it she could explore the unknown galaxy, the Milky Way stretching across the deep blue sky. Night was always her favorite time. When everything was quiet, she was lost in her starry night. At this moment, she seemed to forget her cares and sorrows in the daytime.
She told her secret dream to these beloved ones, her friends, teachers and even her father. When she said, “Papá, I want to be an astronomer working in the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory someday,” her father replied, “Maybe if you work hard, you’ll be hired to clean the offices.” No one believed she would be a scientist one day. But why She knew she could be a good scientist. She knew it!
A big day was coming — to visit the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory, where she had visited for dozens of times, familiar with every set of the instruments there. This time with her classmates she was still eager for something stimulating.
She took a cautious step forward, holding her breath, and her eyes getting closer to the lens (镜片) of the telescope. She adjusted the device softly and carefully, hoping to find more. . . . “Bang! . . .” suddenly there came a loud noise. One of her old friends “one-meter” telescope fell down, broken.
“Look out! Stop touching anything! Step backward!” The manager yelled.
“One-meter is broken, but the scientist has the day off. Nobody can fix it.” An operator added. Worries blanketed the hall.
“I CAN FIX IT!” Catalina’s voice was surprisingly calm.
“You what…. . ” The manager uttered, confused, and doubted.
“It has 67 parts in total. An adjustable spanner (扳手) and a star screwdriver (螺丝刀) can help.”
“Then you know how to assemble it.” His eyes wide open, he still half believed.
Confidently, she nodded.

How to Keep a Sense of Relaxation under Academic Pressure
The prevalence of academic pressure, demanding schedules and high expectations makes it difficult for high school students to quiet their minds and truly unwind. Here follow my suggestions which can ensure the efficiency and productivity.
First and foremost, keep a balanced mindset, focusing on the process rather than the outcome. Secondly, don’t overload the boat or it will sink. It’s a wise choice to work and play by turns properly and moderately, which contributes to a light travel. Furthermore, regular exercise can help you feel fresher and fitter.
Only with a sense of relaxation while striving for your goal can you go further and reach higher.
第二节: (满分 25 分)
Hesitating for a second, the manager agreed, “Just do it, and I’ll take all responsibilities.” All students couldn’t contain their excitement, cheering with joy. Catalina carefully collected all the parts scattering on the floor, and labeled them with numbers. So experienced and skillful was she that she pieced them together precisely. Meanwhile, the spanner and screwdriver took turns to play their roles in her hand like magic. Less than twenty minutes, an intact and perfect telescope was rebuilt without much effort.
Thunderous applause erupted and rocked the hall. The manager couldn’t wait to check it up. Doubtfully, he bent, looked into the eye lens and adjusted it. A smile slowly across his face, he turned around to Catalina, expressing his heartfelt gratitude and praising her talent. Every pupil in the hall cast a look of admiration at Catalina, consisting of the most splendid galaxy, which made the dream deeply rooted in her mind ---- to be a great astronomer.

[Text 1]
M: I heard you had a car accident. Did you get hurt
W: I’m all right. But it’s going to cost me a fortune to get my car fixed.
M: Why not buy a new one.
[Text 2]
W: Are you sure you’ve corrected all the errors in your term paper
M: Oh, I’d better read it through again.
[Text 3]
W: You’ve late again.
M: Sorry. I was held up in a traffic jam for half an hour, and then when I got to our company, the car park was full! I think I need to move nearer so I can walk or use my bike.
[Text 4]
W: Excuse me, I received this electric toothbrush as a gift, and I’d like to return it as I already have one.
M: Sorry, but you can only exchange it for something else with equal value.
W: That’s okay.
[Text 5]
M: Good morning, Dr Clarke’s Clinic.
W: Hello. I’m calling about the appointment I have for tomorrow. It’s in the morning and I can’t come till the afternoon. The name is Joanna Saunders.
M: OK. Dr Clark is free then.
[Text 6]
W: DO you know that my dad is a firefighter
M: Really Does he actually go into burning buildings
W: Yes, and he sometimes has to climb into narrow places to rescue people.
M: Has he ever been trapped in a burning building
W: Well, one time he needed to break down a door. He was carrying a little girl out of a burning house.
M: Was everyone all right
W: All five people living there escaped safely, but the house burnt to the ground.
[Text 7]
M: Why don’t you like going to the cinema
W: Well, there’re too many problems.
M: Like what
W: For example, when the film is popular, the cinema is rather crowded. When the traffic is bad, it takes a long time to get there.
M: Are these all the problems
W: No, the worst is the people: children running up and down, people chatting endlessly and so on. So I’d rather stay home and wait to see the films when they are shown on TV.
M: Then you may see the films a bit later than other people.
W: Yes, but I’ll be more comfortable in the quietness in my living room.
M: Well, I can’t stand others talking about a new film before I see it. So I prefer seeing films at the cinema as soon as they come out.
[Text 8]
W: We will both start our new jobs next month, and we have to look for an apartment.
M: Hey, darling. I hadn’t realized it was so close already. What kind of place would you like
W: Well, it’s too late to think about buying a house somewhere. We’ll have to rent an apartment first. It should be near the bus stop or subway.
M: What about the size
W: Well, a two-bedroom place is OK.
M: It won’t be expensive. What kind of price do you think we can afford
W: Oh, about six hundred dollars. It doesn’t have to be equipped with furniture. We have our own furniture. The apartment should not be in the city center or business district. I like quietness.
M: yeah, I agree. I’d like the apartment to be near a park, so we can go running outdoors as usual.
W: Well, we can look for the information on the Internet or call Lily. She works in the house agency.
M: Good idea. Let’s hope we can find something good!

M: So, Anita, have you always been interested in ice skating
W: Since I was a very small child. I was lucky that my mother was also a professional ice skater and she was able to teach me, so I don’t have to pay for a teacher. But sometimes I couldn’t enter competitions as we didn’t have the money for the special clothes. There was a sports stadium near my home. That helped when I was practicing before school.
M: You do shows on ice, don’t you
W: Yes. Our tours last for ten months, so I’m working all year except during the summer.
M: What’s the hardest thing about the job
W: Lots of people miss their family but I don’t have children and I visit my parents on my free days. In fact, I find the long practices before a show really hard.
M: What is the most important skill for a successful ice skater
W: Well, you have to be a very strong skater of course - I mean you have to be able to laugh at yourself - you’re often wearing very silly clothes and occasionally you fall over.

M: Well, in this course, we’ve been rock-climbing together several times. And the special climbing program would be given at the State Park Climbing Centre next month. The coach is Jim Brown, one of the most experienced rock-climbers in the world today. I’m sure that participants will gain a great deal of confidence. And it’ll greatly improve their techniques. There will be room for only 20 participants, and thus everyone will be given close attention. The cost for the weekend is 300 dollars. 30 dollars should be paid in advance for registration, and the rest should be paid by 28 July. There would be an extra small charge for equipment for any participants who don’t have their own. I expect everyone here to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. If you want to register, I’ll give you an application form after I climb this morning. Send the form back to my office as soon as possible.
