四、 阅读理解。
This morning, during the first of my eldest son’s three basketball
games, we happened to be sitting next to a lady with a young son. The little
boy looked a little younger than my youngest son. At one point in the game,
the little guy looked at my son, and said, “Do you want to be my
friend?” My husband got closer to tell me what he heard. I spent the next
20 minutes taking pictures of my eldest son on the court. And my youngest
son, with his new buddy, played games two seats down from where I sat.
It was a heartwarming picture and showed me how easy it could be to make
new friends.

A few hours earlier, we went to a downtown cafe. There were no free
tables for four, so we had to take a table for two and sit closer to each other.
We were glad to take a bite of each other’s food and laughed a lot. Our voices
might make the college students a bit annoyed, who were drinking coffee
and working hard to finish their homework. At that time, a young lady came
over to our table and said, “I have more room at my table. I am happy to
share it with your children, so you can sit more comfortably.” It was a
simple act, but it showed a selfless(无私的) heart. Her kindness stuck
with me for hours after it happened.
These are just two examples of everyday kindnesses. I could name so
many more. These small acts of friendliness and human care make the world
go round.

三、 阅读与回答问题。
Happiness is a feeling that lights up your eyes, makes your steps light
and makes you want to sing for no reason. Everyone wants to be happy. But
sometimes, a guest comes in without an invitation. It’s unhappiness. Don’t
let it get you down. Send it away!

When you are happy, the world feels like a better place. As a saying
goes, “When you smile, the world smiles with you; when you cry,
you cry alone.” Wearing a smile will make you more charming(迷人的)
and help you to win lots of friends. A good mood always gives you hope,
which makes problems easier to work out.

No matter how happy you are, it’s normal to feel angry and sad
sometimes. Life is full of ups and downs. We can’t change the way life is,
but we can do our best to change a bad situation into a good one. To help us
do this, it’s good to know some of the factors(因素) that influence
happiness.

One of the biggest factors is the social relationship. People who are close
to family and friends are happier than those who don’t have those
relationships. Talking and sharing are good ways to relax and build
confidence. Knowing someone is there for you will make you braver and
more outgoing.
Another factor is work or school. If you enjoy school, even if you have
lots of homework or extra classes, you will still feel that your school life is
meaningful and happy. But if you hate school, your negative attitude(消极
的态度) may cause you to feel bored and upset.

A third factor is your attitude towards life. How do you feel if you fail an
exam? Maybe you think it’s unfair because you always study hard and
should have got a good mark. You can’t stop blaming(责怪) yourself.
Or, maybe you accept it. You go through the paper carefully, find out why
you made stupid mistakes, and tell yourself, “Take it easy! I’ll do
better next time!” Your attitude makes a big difference.
Do you smile a lot or wear a long face most of the time?

1. What will make you more charming?

2. What can you do when you can’t change the way life is?

3. How will you feel about your school life if you enjoy school?

4. How many factors can influence happiness according to the passage?

Wearing a smile.
We can do our best to change a bad situation into a good one.
I will feel my school life is meaningful and happy.
Three.

5. How do you make yourself happy in your daily life?(请自拟一
句话作答)

I often play basketball.(言之有理即可)

“Fine, I’ll just do it all myself!” I thought when I stamped(跺
脚).
My friends and I were trying to make the best cardboard(硬纸板)
town to play in. We were turning cardboard boxes into stores and playgrounds
and all kinds of fun things! We weren’t working together well, though. I
could hear them talking when I was walking away.
“Wow, I didn’t think Johnny would get so angry,” Katie said.
“We are just trying another way.”

“This should be fun,” said Max. “Johnny can’t do it all by himself.
Maybe if we give him some space, he’ll want us to help again.”
Yeah, right. Because it was my idea, I would just do it without them.
The only problem was that I wanted to finish it before New Year’s Day. I
wanted to show it to all of my family when they came over.

New Year’s Day was two weeks away. I thought that the job was too big.
I still needed to make the buildings with boxes, put them around the town,
and decorate(装饰) them. I couldn’t finish everything by myself. I guess
that’s why people work together. When we each had a job, this was fun and
went a lot faster. Maybe I should say sorry to Katie and Max. They were just
trying to help and have fun with me.
The next day at school, I said sorry to Katie and Max.
“I don’t know why I got so angry. Building a town should be fun. Will
you come back to my house today to finish our town?” I asked.
“Sure, Johnny,” they said.
We all took on a role and finished the town quickly. It was great!

四、 (2023·东营改编)阅读理解。
When Jae came home from school, he couldn’t find his keys. “What
now? I can’t just sit out here,” he thought. His parents wouldn’t be home
for an hour. Just then, Ron, the man who lived next door, was coming.
He asked Ron if he could stay in his room to wait for his parents. Ron agreed.
Inside, Jae saw a baseball on a shelf(架子).
Ron smiled when he saw Jae looking at it. “That one was signed(签
名) by the Minnesota Twins, right after the World Series in 1987,” he
said.

“Dad takes me to their games sometimes,” Jae said. “Where did
you get this?”
“I was a professional umpire(裁判) for thirty years,” Ron
answered.
Jae’s eyes widened. “An umpire? Did you meet ...” He began to ask
Ron questions one after another. Ron told Jae a lot about past players.
When it was time for Jae to go home, he asked Ron, “Can I come
again?” “Sure,” Ron said. “Wow, losing my keys turned out
okay,” Jae thought.

The next day at school, Jae searched his desk. “Oh, no. Not
again!” he groaned(叹息). “Need help?” asked Martina, a new
classmate.
“Yes. I’ve lost my dinosaur book,” Jae said.
“Wow! That’s the same book that I use!” Martina exclaimed.
“Are you into dinosaurs too?” “What’s your favourite?” “...”
They kept talking. After school, they went to the park to play catch with
Jae’s favourite baseball. “Martina’s pretty cool,” Jae thought.

The next morning was Saturday. Jae wanted to do some throwing
practice, but he couldn’t find his baseball. “Can we go to the park to look
for my baseball?” Jae asked his mum.
At the park, they saw a homeless dog playing with something. It was
Jae’s baseball. “Mum, look!” Jae said. “Doesn’t he look like he needs
a home?”
His mother smiled. “Yes, he does,” she said. “He’ll be your
responsibility, though.” Jae nodded excitedly and picked him up.
“What a week!” Jae thought to himself. “I lost my keys, my
book, and my baseball, but every time I lost something, I got a friend.”
