The natural world is colourful with humans， plants and animals
showing different colours. Human skin can be many different colours and it
changes with the sun， our feelings， or our health. This is because of
pigments（色素）， which reflect light and make what the eye sees as
colours. So， when we feel excited or angry， our heart sends more blood to
the face and the pigments in the skin become red.

Plants also have pigments. Colours play an important role in their life.
The bright colours of flowers catch the attention of insects. Then the insects
carry the pollen（花粉） from one flower to another. Bees can see colours
we cannot， and they follow these to the inside of the flower. Without bees
visiting flowers in this way， many plants would die out.

Animals also use colours for their own need. They protect themselves
with different colours in order not to be seen by predators（捕食者）. The
snowshoe hare， for example， a type of wild rabbit， changes colours with
seasons for this reason. During summer it is a brown colour， and in winter it
is white so that it can hide in the snow. However， some animals use the
colour as a warning to frighten predators away. Bright colours such as yellow
and red are often used in this way.

A study has found that colours may be generally related to（有关联

The researchers in Dr Daniel Oberfeld’s team wrote， “Red is related
to both good and bad emotions while black is clearly related to bad emotions.
In the recent study， red was often related to love and anger， while black
was related to sadness， hate and fear among other bad emotions.” Other
colours which had strong relations across countries were pink with love，
grey with sadness and orange with joy or pleasure.
