五、 阅读理解。
Last week, all the teachers and students of our school watched a
special performance by some disabled people. The first programme was a
dance named “The light of life”. To my surprise, all the dancers had lost
one of their legs. As they were performing, I could see how they had to face
so many difficulties. However, they showed us many wonderful
programmes. From these programmes, I could see how lively their minds
were.

The two persons who came out next shocked us all. The first one was a
singer. He was very young but unfortunately he had lost both of his hands in a
big fire. The song he brought us was Late Autumn and he sang it in such a
low and sweet voice. Though it was warm spring, I felt a little cold when I
heard the song as if it were really late autumn. “How much love and feeling
is hidden in my heart? I wish to hold your hands again.” Hearing this, I
couldn’t keep back my tears.

The other one was also a young man. He lost both of his arms when he
was six. From then on, his feet became his “hands”. However, he could
manage a number of things with his feet. What moved us most was his feet
writing. The two words “Flying High” expressed his wishes.

“If your wings are gone, your heart can still fly,” said Zhang
Haidi, a disabled writer. In the world, there are many disabled people,
yet most of them don’t give up. They have strong wishes and beautiful
dreams. Just as Zhang Haidi said they could fly. Disability doesn’t mean
complete failure. Once you try hard, miracles(奇迹) will happen sooner
or later. I believe where there is a will, there is a way.

( D )1. The teachers and students last week.
A. saw a film B. held a party
C. watched a football match D. watched a performance
( D )2. Why did the writer feel a little cold when he heard the song
Late Autumn?
A. Because it was cold at that moment.
B. Because he had a bad cold.
C. Because it was late autumn and the weather was cool.
D. Because the song was moving.

Carl Lewis holds the record as the only man to capture the gold in the
100m, 200m, long jump, and 4×100m relay at the same Olympic
Games. He won four gold medals at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
He continued to create history at the 1988 Games in Seoul, where he won
the 100m and the long jump for a second time. In 1992 in Barcelona, Carl
won the long jump and 4×100m relay again. Carl Lewis finally finished
competing after the 1996 Games in Atlanta where he won the long jump. He
happens to live right down the street from me, so I decided to interview the
greatest Olympian of all time.

1. When you started running, did you realize that you were going to be
great?
No, I was awful when I started! I was shorter than others when I was
very young, but by the time I graduated, I had been tall. I would have quit
if it hadn’t been for my parents telling me not to give up.

2. What thoughts went through your mind before a race? What did you
tell yourself?
Leading up to the race, I’d go over my race technique. But once I
stepped into the block, I would try to relax and clear my mind so the only
thing I could hear was the gun going off. While I was actually running, I
had to be aware of what was happening, but I couldn’t let that affect my
race. I had to run my own race.

3. What advice would you give athletes?
Never give up. I was supposed to give up, but because my mum was
the best liar on the Earth, telling me I would grow and that I was good at
running, I continued to run. And you know how people say, “You can be
whatever you want to be.” You just have to be a leader, not a follower.
Choose to make a difference, and you will be whatever you aspire to be.

( B )1. In which of the following did Carl Lewis win gold medals
twice?
A. The 200m and 4×100m relay.
B. The 4×100m relay and 100m.
C. The long jump and 200m.
D. The 100m and 200m.

sports.

在成长过程中,我们都会遇到各种各样的问题。请以“My growing
pain”为题,用英语写下你成长过程中的问题。文章需包括问题和解决
办法。词数100左右。

My growing pain

My middle school life is coming to an end. During the three
years, not only did I have happy time, but I had all kinds of
problems. My biggest problem was from my parents. They wanted me to
spend all my time on my lessons. They didn’t allow me to play computer
games or have outdoor activities with my friends.

I couldn’t stand the strict rules! So I wrote a letter and told my
parents I knew it was important to do well in schoolwork. I would make
good use of the time and try to do well in schoolwork first. After a long
talk with my parents, they agreed that I could have spare time and do
something I like. Now I have realized that communicating with our
parents is a good way to solve our problems.

五、 阅读表达。
Once there was a time when many people went hungry. A rich baker
(面包店老板) said to twenty of the poorest children in the town, “In
this basket there is a loaf of bread for each of you. Take it, and come back
to me every day at this hour.”
The hungry children gathered about the basket, and quarrelled(争
吵) for the bread, because each wished to have the largest loaf. At last,
they went away without even thanking the good gentleman.

But Gretchen, a poorly-dressed little girl, did not quarrel with the
rest, but remained standing modestly in the distance. When the ill-behaved
children had left, she took the smallest loaf, which alone was left in the
basket, kissed the gentleman’s hand, and went home.
The next day the children were as ill-behaved as before, and poor,
shy Gretchen received a loaf only half the size of the one she got on the first
day. When she came home, her mother cut the bread open. Many new
shining pieces of silver fell out of it.

Her mother was very worried, and said, “Take the money back to
the good gentleman at once, for it must have got into the dough(生面团)
by accident. Be quick, Gretchen! Be quick!”
But when the little girl gave the rich man her mother’s message, he
said, “No, no, my child, it was no mistake. I had the silver pieces put
into the smallest loaf to reward you. Always be as contented(满足的),
peaceable, and thankful as you now are. Go home now, and tell your
mother that the money is your own.”

1. What did Gretchen get besides the small loaf of bread the next day?

2. Why were the silver pieces put into the smallest loaf, not the largest
one?

Many new shining pieces of silver.
Because the rich man wanted to reward Gretchen and he believed the
ill-behaved children would take the larger ones and leave her the smallest
one.

3. What do you think of the hungry children? Give your reason.

They were selfish. Because they quarrelled for the bread, and each
wished to have the largest loaf.(言之有理即可)
