Watching the young, 21-year-old Jordan Spieth win the US Masters today, I could not help but think of the great qualities he showed to win the most famous golf event on the calendar against the greatest players in the world.
Jordan Spieth has learned to keep himself in check. There is a great proverb: A fool shares all his or her feelings while a wise man keeps them in check. As I watched Spieth playing, I noticed a constant calm around him. Whether he hit the shot he wanted or not, he was the same and kept his emotions steady and strong. He never blamed the crowd, clubs (球棍) or wind.
He knows which club he is going to drive with on every hole; he knows which side of the fairway (高尔夫球道) to land and exactly where he wants to be standing on every green when he is putting: he has played it through his minds for months. He is the person who makes things happen by planning in advance because he knows winning is a product of months and years of planning.
If there is an event that every golfer dreams of winning, it's the US Masters. Spieth failed in 2014, getting so close to winning but coming second. As good as second was, he only wanted to be first. As a great person once said, "While you're green, you're growing, when you're brown, you're dying." He stays green. He is always reading, learning, and he understands that the greatest teacher of all is failure.
24.What can we know about the US Masters

B.Jordan Spieth won the first in 2014 US Masters.
C.Not all the golf players want to win the US Masters.
D.Jordan Spieth meets many strong competitors in the US Masters.
25.Which of the following is NOT a quality Jordan Spieth has
A.He is constantly calm B.He is good at planning.
C.He is well informed D.He is skillful in learning.
26.How does the author convey his ideas in Paragraph 3
A.By offering examples.
B.By explaining cause and effect.
C.By making contrasts.
D.By making predictions.
27.Where is the text probably from
A.An English textbook. B.A fan's blog.
C.An athlete's autobiography. D.A sports magazine.

The United States gets hit by some of the strongest and most destructive storms on Earth. Examples of extreme weather include hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and droughts. But the storms themselves are not the only problem. Weather experts say human choices about where and what to build are making the situation much worse.
Susan Cutter is a geography professor. She said a country like China has more people and land area than the United States. But, she added, "They don't have the same kind of crash of air masses (气团碰撞) as much as we do in the US that is producing a lot of the extreme weather."
The US experiences by far more tornadoes and other strong storms than other countries, said Victor Gensini, a weather expert. Gensini described a repeating weather pattern (模式) that leads to many strong storms. The pattern involves dry air from the western US moving up over the Rocky Mountains. There, it crashes into warm, wetter air from the Gulf of Mexico. In the West, people face wildfires as well as an extreme weather event known as an atmospheric river. Atmospheric rivers are long and wide areas of water vapour (蒸汽) that form over an ocean. When atmospheric rivers reach land, they often give out the water vapour in the form of rain or snow.
The US Northeast experiences strong storms in the winter and hurricanes in the summer. Sometimes it experiences both.
But weather experts say even though geography puts Americans in the path of many strong storms, human activity can make the storms more harmful. One of the main problems is when communities allow development in areas with a high risk for storms and flooding.
In some cases, the experts say building standards have gone down in recent years, putting more buildings at risk during strong storms. In addition, poverty can make it difficult for people to prepare for and recover from disasters. This is also true for people in many other places of the world.
28.What can we infer from Susan Cutter's words in Paragraph 2
A.China suffers lots of floods.
B.America has amazing climate.
C.Large population leads to strong storms.
D.There is more extreme weather in the US.
29.Where is the dry air from
A.The west of America. B.The Gulf of Mexico.
C.The US Northeast. D.The Rocky Mountains.
30.What may atmospheric rivers bring
A.The spread of wildfires. B.Rivers to dry up.
C.The rise in temperature. D.Heavy rainfall.
31.What is a suitable title for the text
A.Why Does the US Lead the World in Weather Disasters
B.Experts' Study of the Mountains in America
C.Introduction to Natural Disasters in the United States
D.The Influence of the Geographical Location of the US

Since the 1950s, some 9.2 billion tonnes of plastic have been produced globally, of which only about 10% has ever been recycled. Yet environmentally conscious companies and consumers continue to look to recycling as a way to ease the plastic problem. Manufacturing giants claim to be committed to making more of their products and packaging from recycled materials. However, this confidence masks (掩饰) a complex web of issues around plastic recycling. Recycling rates remain extremely low and critics argue that we should look at alternative ways to tackle plastic pollution.
While many plastics have the potential to be recycled, most are not because the process is costly, complicated and the resulting product of a lower quality than the original. Despite rising demand for recycled plastic, few waste companies turn a profit. Part of this is because virgin plastic—linked to oil prices—is often cheaper than recycled plastic, meaning there is little economic motive to use it. Worse yet, much of our plastic waste is difficult to recycle. Lightweight food packaging, like a mozzarella packet, contains different plastics, dyes and toxic additives (添加剂). This dirty mix means plastic recycled through mechanical methods—the most common form—can only be melted down and moulded again a couple of times before it becomes too fragile to be reused. And the nature of the process means plastic recycling has a carbon footprint of its own.
Given all of these difficulties, environmental critics say recycling is not the solution and argue that creating more products from recycled material to attract environmental consciousness merely worsens the problem. "The solution is to use less plastic and to stop misleading the public about the recyclability," says Enck, president of Beyond Plastics, a US campaign group with a mission to end single-use plastic. "They should stop making false claims about the recyclability of plastics since they know most will either be littered or burned or landfilled (填埋). Using less plastics means shifting to reusable products and relying more on paper, cardboard, glass and metal—all of which should be made from recycled content."
32.Which of the following statements would environmentally conscious companies support
A.Recycling can't solve the plastic problem.
B.Creating more products from recycled material can help ease plastic pollution.
C.The solution to plastic pollution is to use less plastic.
D.People should give up recycling because the recycling rates remain extremely low.
33.Which of the following is not the cause of the low recycling rate according to Paragraph 2
A.The process is costly and complex.
B.Waste companies can't make a profit.
C.The process of recycling has a carbon footprint.
D.Policy support is insufficient and people's awareness of plastic recycling is insufficient.
34.What is Enck's attitude towards recycling plastics
A.Disapproving B.Unclear C.Neutral D.Indifferent
35.What can we learn from the text
A.An environmentally conscious customer's attitude towards recycling plastics is not favorable.
B.Contributing factors to low plastic recycling rates.
C.Most plastics have the potential to be recycled.
D.Few waste companies turn a profit because the demand for recycled plastics is low.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

"虽然许多塑料都有回收利用的潜力,但大多数塑料都不能回收利用,因为回收过程成本高、复杂,而且回收后的产品质量也不如原来的塑料。尽管对再生塑料的需求不断增长,但很少有垃圾处理公司盈利。部分原因是,与油价相关的原生塑料通常比再生塑料便宜,这意味着使用它几乎没有经济动机;以及"And the nature of the process means plastic recycling has a carbon footprint of its own."这一过程的本质意味着塑料回收本身就有碳足迹。可知,导致回收率低的因素有——回收过程代价大、回收公司不能盈利、回收过程复杂且回收本身也有碳排放等,D项第二段中没有提及。故选D。
34.考查推理判断。根据最后一段中的"Given all of these difficulties, environmental critics say recycling is not the solution and argue that creating more products from recycled material to attract environmental consciousness merely worsens the problem. ‘The solution is to use less plastic and to stop misleading the public about the recyclability,' says Enck, president of Beyond Plastics, a US campaign group with a mission to end single-use plastic." 故选A。
35.考查细节理解。根据第二段中的"While many plastics have the potential to be recycled, most are not because the process is costly, complicated and the resulting product of a lower quality than the original. Despite rising demand for recycled plastic, few waste companies turn a profit.
