Ⅱ.要点精析
状语从句是指在句子中作状语,起副词作用的从句。根据其作用一般分为:时间状语从句、地点状语从句、条件状语从句、让步状语从句、目的状语从句、结果状语从句、比较状语从句等。
1.时间状语从句
(1)when、while与as引导的时间状语从句
when 意为“当……时”,可与延续性动词或非延续性动词连
用;从句的动作和主句的动作可以同时发生,也可以先
后发生
while 意为“当……时”,只可与延续性动词连用
as 意为“一边……一边……;随着”,常与延续性动词连
用,强调主句和从句动作同时发生

(2)before与since引导的时间状语从句

温馨提示 since引导的从句中,假如动词是非延续性动词,那么所表示的动作是自从句谓语动作算起;若用延续性动词或状态动词,所表示的就是自动作或状态的完成或结束时算起。

她离开我们班有三年了。
(3)until与till引导的时间状语从句
①until与till引导时间状语从句的区别
until 可以放在句首 not...until可用于强调句型
till 不可放在句首 一般不用于强调句型
Until you told me, I had no idea of it.
在你告诉我之前,我对此一无所知。
②not until位于句首时,主句要部分倒装。
Not until he told me about it again did I have any idea of it.
直到他又告诉我一遍此事我才明白。
③until/till用于肯定句时,主句的谓语动词是延续性动词;用于否定句时,主句的谓语动词是非延续性动词。
I waited patiently until/till the oil was hot.
我耐心地等待,直到油变热了。
You can't leave until I come back.
直到我回来你才可以离开。
(4)其他引导时间状语从句的词或短语
①as soon as、the moment/minute/instant、immediately/directly/instantly
Immediately the clown appeared on the stage, the audience burst out laughing.
小丑一出现在舞台上,观众就突然大笑起来。
②hardly/scarcely...when...、no sooner...than...中,主句用过去完成时,从句用一般过去时;当no sooner...和hardly/scarcely...位于句首时,主句要用部分倒装。
Hardly/Scarcely had he heard the news when he began to make preparations.
他一听到这个消息就开始准备。
③名词词组each/every time、 the first(或其他序数词)time、(the)next/last time等。
(2021新高考Ⅰ)The first time I read the newspaper Youth, I felt an urge to finish reading it in one breath.
当我第一次读《青年报》时,我感到一种想一口气把它读完的冲动。

④by the time引导的时间状语从句如果用一般现在时,主句则用将来完成时;从句如果用一般过去时,主句则用过去完成时。

马克是个天才。到他毕业时,已经有十几家电脑公司给他提供工作了。
By the time you come back, we will have finished the job.
到你回来的时候,我们将已经完成了这项工作。
2.条件状语从句
(1)引导条件状语从句的常见引导词有if、unless、as/so long as、 in case(假使)、 on condition that、provided/providing(that)、supposing (that)、given that等。
You'll fail the exam unless you study hard.
除非你努力学习,否则你会考试不及格。
As long as you don't lose heart, you will succeed.只要你不灰心,你就会成功。
You can use my car on condition that you return it tomorrow.
我的车子可以借给你,条件是明天必须归还。
(2)在条件状语从句中,用一般现在时代替一般将来时,用一般过去时代替过去将来时。
In case there is a fire, what will we do first
假如发生火灾,我们首先要做什么?
3.原因状语从句
because 用来回答why的提问,语气最强,一般放在主句之后
since/now that 表示已知的理由或稍加分析即可表明的原因,多放
在句首
as as引导的从句多放在句首,说明次要原因,主句说明
结果,常用于口语中
其他连词 seeing that(鉴于;由于);in that(因为);
considering(考虑到);when(既然)等
The book is different from that one in that this one is about chemistry and that one about history.
这本书不同于那本书,因为这本是关于化学的,而那本是关于历史的。
I'm forever on a diet, since I put on weight easily. 我一直在节食,因为我的体重很容易增加。
4.让步状语从句
(1)although、though、as与while引导的让步状语从句
①although引导让步状语从句时,只能用正常语序;though引导让步状语从句时,可用正常语序,也可用倒装语序;as引导让步状语从句时只能用倒装语序,即从句中的表语、状语或谓语中的实义动词置于句首,若表语是单数名词,前置时要省略冠词。
Although/Though/While he may get into trouble, he always presents a calm smile.
尽管他可能会遇到麻烦,但他总是露出平静的微笑。
Although/Though/While I have met many people, I have never seen anyone who's as capable as John.

②although与though都可以与yet、still、nevertheless连用,但不能和but连用。
③while引导让步状语从句时,一般置于句首。
While I admit that there are problems, I don't agree that they cannot be solved.
尽管我承认有问题存在,但我不同意这些问题不能解决(的观点)。
(2)even if与even though引导的让步状语从句
I want to do it, even if/though it takes me all the afternoon.
我想要做这件事,即使它会花去我整个下午的时间。
Even if/though I were in your place, I wouldn't take the job.即使我处于你的位置,我也不会接受这份工作。
(3)“no matter+疑问词”与“疑问词+ever”引导的让步状语从句
I'd like to embrace the future bravely, no matter what/whatever the challenge is.
我想勇敢地拥抱未来,无论有什么样的挑战。
温馨提示 whoever、whatever、whomever、whichever还可以引导名词性从句,但“no matter+疑问词”不可以。
(4)whether...or...引导的让步状语从句
Whether you come first or last, it is important to remember that at any sporting event, you face two opponents: your fellow competitors and yourself.无论你是第一个来还是最后一个来,重要的是要记住,在任何体育赛事中,你要面对两个对手:你的对手和你自己。
5.其他状语从句
类型 引导词
地点状 语从句 where、wherever、everywhere、anywhere等
目的状 语从句 so that、in order that、in case、for fear that等
so that与in order that引导目的状语从句时,常与can、
could、may、might连用;in order that引导的目的状语从句
可以置于主句前或后,但so that引导的从句只能置于主句
后。
类型 引导词
结果状 语从句 so that、so...that...、such...that...。在非正式语体中,由
so...that...、such...that...引导的句子中的that可以省略。
方式状 语从句 as、as if/though等
比较状 语从句 as...as、not as/so...as、the same...as...、比较级+than等

6.状语从句的省略
在状语从句中,如果谓语动词含有be动词,且从句主语和主句的主语一致,或从句的主语是it,那么从句中的主语和谓语的一部分(尤其是be动词)往往可以省略。
Don't look at your cellphone when (you are) crossing the street.
过马路时不要看手机。
When (it is) published, the novel will become one of the best-sellers of the year.一旦出版,这部小说将会成为该年度的畅销书之一。
I could go back home every few months if (it is) necessary.

注意
the reason后接的定语从句的引导词用why/for which还是用that/which,取决于其在定语从句中所承担的句子成分。缺少主语、宾语时用that或which;缺少状语时用why或for which。
