There have been many great inventions in the world. Most of
them have changed the way we live. For example, one great invention is
the wheel. It is very important today. The invention of the wheel makes it
easier to carry heavy things and to travel long distances. Then many
great inventions were made. These all have become important parts of
our life today. New inventions continue to be made.
I think new inventions will allow us to do things we have never
dreamed of some day. In a word, more inventions are still needed. As
students, we should work hard to have our own inventions.

You don’t have to be old to be an inventor. Frank Epperson invented the
Popsicle when he was just eleven years old. One winter day in 1905, after a

his drink was frozen like an icicle(冰柱). Frank tasted it and found it was
delicious. And it became a hit among his friends.

flavours(口味). He named the ice on a stick “Epsicle”. His children

There are many inventions that have caused great changes in the world.
Here is a short introduction to the maglev train(磁悬浮列车). The history
of the maglev train started at the beginning of the 1900s. The American
Robert Goddard and the French-born American Emile Bachelet came up with
the idea of frictionless(无摩擦的) trains. But the scientists didn’t succeed

About half a century later, the Japanese started their research on
maglev transpor-tation. After many years of experiments, the Japanese
began to build their first test line, 7 km long, in 1975, and finished it in
1977. Many test runs started in July, 1987 with a speed of about 400 km/h.
In 1990, Japan built the Yamanashi maglev test line. This test line was 42.8
km long and the first running test was held in 1997.
The Germans also started research on the maglev train in the late 1960s.
It took them ten years to make the first track model. In 1993, the longest
non-stop test run was 1,674 km. And the speed reached 450km/h.
China finished a 30-km-long maglev train line in Shanghai. This is the
first commercial(商业的) maglev train line in China. Although this project
cost a lot, we still felt proud of it.
