定义：过去进行时表示过去某时正在进行的动作或存在的状态。
(1) 基本结构：was / were + v.-ing: I was doing some shopping.
(2) 否定式：was / were not + v.-ing：I wasn’t reading.
(3) 疑问句：将 was / were调到主语前; 结构为：Was / Were + 主语 + verb-ing
---Were they running ---Yes, they were. / No, they weren’t.
用法拓展：
1 ‘while’ , ‘when’ and ‘as’当……的时候
（1）when 1. +瞬间动词(有先后）2.+延续性,相当于while
He went home when he finished his work.
He was listening to music when he was doing his homework. (=while)
（2）while 1.表同时进行的两个延续性动词；I was cooking while he was reading at seven last night. 2.前后对比；然而。Some students were reading while others were singing。有些学生在读书，而有些在唱歌。
（3）as :at the same time强调同时,一边一边:He sang as he danced.他边唱边跳。
2过去进行时也可以表示从过去某时看来将要发生的动作,此类动词主要有go,come,leave, arrive, visit,etc.例：Lucy arrived in Beijing last Friday, but she was leaving for Hong Kong the next morning. 上周五露西到达北京，但第二天早晨就要动身去香港了。
