Whenever I think of Ms. Anita Moore, I always smile and feel fortunate to have her as my teacher. All of her students knew she loved being a teacher. Her classroom was always a safe place where we were encouraged to share, think, and express ourselves.
One of the memories that always stuck with me was a reading class when Ms. Moore read a story aloud and started to cry. The main character in the story reminded her of her grandmother. She paused to share about her relationship with her grandmother and made the connection as to how that relationship helped understand the story.
Ms. Moore tried her best to make a connection with each student in her classroom. She knew what we liked and used that information to bring our interests into the classroom. That is one of the reasons why Ms. Moore will always be my favorite teacher. She brought various types of books to our classroom and allowed us to take them home. It was she that helped my love for reading grow.
Ms. Moore also went beyond classroom instruction. She decided that our school should have a choir and that all of her students should audition (试演). Without her, I would never have taken part in this type of after-school activity. Once it was time for the annual 5th grade weekend camping trip, my parents refused to let me attend. Ms. Moore came to my home to persuade (说服) them. Although I was still not allowed to go, it was amazing to me that a teacher would visit my home to help me be part of a school tradition with my classmates.
Ms. Moore was a wonderful example of a caring teacher. From her, I’ve learned to make connections with students and look for ways to help them learn and feel successful.
24. Why did Ms. Moore cry in the reading class
A. The story was too sad.
B. She was moved by the students.
C. She thought of her own grandmother.
D. She helped her students understand the story.
25. What can we learn about Ms. Moore from Paragraph 3
A. She was good at writing books.
B. She inspired the writer’s love for reading.
C. She donated many books to poor students.
D. She was the favorite teacher of the whole class.
26. Which of the following words best describe Ms. Moore
A. Responsible and caring. B. Positive and independent.
C. Inspiring and strict. D. Knowledgeable and confident.
27. What is the author’s purpose of writing this passage
A. To express opinions on teaching literature.
B. To discuss how to become a caring teacher.
C. To introduce the classes and activities in her school.
D. To share her memory about her teacher, Ms. Anita Moore.

Ecologists Dr. Matt Holden, Dr. Andrew Rogers and Dr. Russell Yong observed their share house and its backyard in 2020, and discovered 1,150 unique species of animals and plants over a 12-month period.
“We asked a large number of ecologists and conservation scientists how many species they’d expect to find in this setting and they said it could be only 200,”Dr. Holden said. “But after 60 days of surveying, we’d already discovered 777 species. It shows suburban (郊区的) houses and apartments could have far more biodiversity (生物多样性) than ever imagined, especially when it comes to insects.”
The idea of the species count was born when Dr. Rogers went to clean spider’s webs (蜘蛛网) in his room and wondered how many spiders were in the house. “The three of us soon worked out a plan to check the house and backyard in search of other insects that lived alongside us,” Dr. Holden said.
The survey showed richly biodiverse creatures, including 436 moth and butterfly species, 56 different spiders, and 56 birds. The researchers were also surprised to discover three species not previously recorded in Australia’s leading biodiversity database. “The house was a rich ecosystem of species interacting—we discovered unexpectedly a kind of moth, which spends its whole time feeding inside the waste of other animals before turning into an adult,” Dr. Holden said.
Homes across all suburban areas could play host to similar biodiversity. “It depends on how people tend to their homes and gardens—keeping low maintenance trees and flowers and preventing chemicals used for killing insects will lead to the rising number of living creatures,” Dr. Holden said. “You don’t have to go travelling to connect with Australia’s different species of creatures. Just look in your own backyard.”
28. How many species did the three housemates discover in 12 months
A. 200. B. 436. C. 700. D. 1, 150.
29. What made Dr. Rogers get the idea of the species count
A. Cleaning his room. B. Observing the spiders.
C. A talk with his friend. D. A mass of dead insects.
30. Which statement will Dr. Holden probably agree with
A. Australia has seen a jump in living creatures. B. Suburban backyards are home to diverse species.
C. Wildlife tourism threatens animals and plants. D. People should keep their gardens free of insects.
31. Where is this text most likely from
A. A children’s story. B. A museum guide.
C. A science magazine. D. A health report.
D
To improve road safety and raise awareness among Russia’s notoriously (臭名昭著地) careless drivers, Russian police have tried to get drivers to slow down at zebra (斑马) crossings by having painted horses as zebras walk across on the busiest streets in some of the big cities.
The light grey horses, painted with black stripes (条纹), carried signs on their backs reading: “Careful, children are on their way to school.” The police sent the “zebras” to several different locations in the Russian capital, where officials in orange vests walked them over zebra crossings and handed out leaflets (传单) to passing drivers.
Some held up rainbow-coloured umbrellas over the painted animals to protect them from the rain. Russian roads are notoriously dangerous and drivers still rarely take steps to avoid pedestrians (行人). Nearly half of all traffic accidents in the country’s big cities are caused by cars hitting pedestrians, and a third of those occur on crossings, according to traffic police figures published last month.
In the first six months of this year, 378 people were killed and more than 6, 600 injured on pedestrian crossings in Russia, according to police. In Moscow alone, 43 people were killed, including two children.
Though police officials said that only safe paint would be used on the animals, animal rights activists still disagreed with the idea, accusing the police of “treating animals like garbage”.
“Children understand that paints are bad for animals,” the Interfax news agency quoted president of Vita animal rights group Irina Novozhilova as saying.
Let’s hope this part of the campaign is over and animals are left out of future attempts to raise pedestrians’ awareness.
32. Why do Moscow police have “zebras” walk across on the busiest streets
A. To make a call on protecting animals.
B. To raise drivers’ awareness of road safety.
C. To tell people it is dangerous to cross streets.
D. To remind people zebras are in danger of extinction.
33. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. The zebras. B. The policemen. C. The horses. D. The drivers.
34. What do animal rights activists think of the new attempt
A. Drivers must slow down at pedestrian crossings.
B. Road safety should be improved.
C. The paints used on the horses are safe.
D. These animals are ill-treated by the police.
35. Which word can best describe the author’s attitude towards the campaign
A. Critical. B. Confident. C. Doubtful. D. Positive.

The good news is that there will be no rain, which is pretty unusual at this time of year in London. The hotel we are staying in will provide shampoo, hair conditioner and soap. Toothbrushes and toothpaste are not provided, though. Meals are served in the dining room on the first floor as follows: breakfast is served from 6: 30 a. m. to 10:00a. m.; lunch is available between 12:00p. m. and 2: 00p. m.; and dinner is from 6: 30p. m. to 8:30p. m. You will enjoy a healthy diet in London, and of course the famous fish and chips. The hotel also provides free shuttle bus to and from the airport Oh, a final word about travel documents: you will not be allowed to enter Britain without your passport. Okay, I think that’s all. Any questions
