As the lights dimmed(变暗淡)in the Glidden Hall on March 28, the atmosphere was filled with excitement. Among the sea of eager faces sat Marcis Bravo, a first-year graduate student working for his Masters of Music, ready for the song to begin. What followed was an unforgettable night where some of Ohio University's music students shared the stage with the Grammy Award winners, the Indigo Girls.
For Bravo and his classmates, this was more than just a performance-it was a milestone in their musical journey and education. They lent their talents to breathe new life into the Indigo Girls' timeless hits.
The Indigo Girls have been releasing(发行)records and touring the world for over 20 years, but more recently the two performers have started a new program—collaborating(合作)to create arrangements of their songs to perform with music students in college, stressing the importance of students getting this experience during formal studies.
"We are ecstatic to have our students interact with these wonderful touring artists that we bring to the university," Matthew Talbert, director of the School of Music, said. "We aim to offer an educational experience to students and the community whether that is a masterclass, lecture, networking opportunity or some other forms.”
For Bravo, playing with the Indigo Girls gave him new skills to take into his study he otherwise may not have had. "This experience has helped me as a way to build up my confidence. If I can perform with such a talented group, well, what can't I do " Bravo said.
The impact of such collaborations goes far beyond the stage. It increases students' confidence and makes students well prepared in the music industry. "I'm a great believer that music that happens inside of Glidden Hall is fantastic—music that happens in the community has the power to be life-changing," Talbert said.
24. What do we know about Marcis Bravo
A. He forgot to do his job on the stage. B. He won the Grammy Award. C. He performed with the Indigo Girls. D. He taught music at a university.
25. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 3
A. Add some background information.
B. Summarize the previous paragraphs.
C. Introduce a new topic for discussion.
D. Offer some tips on attending a concert.
26. What does the underlined word "ecstatic" in paragraph 4 mean
A. Curious. B. Excited. C. Regretful. D. Unprepared.
27. Which of the following best describes the impact of the collaboration
A. Limited. B. Uncertain. C. Short-lived. D. Far-reaching.

Scientists have taken pictures of a star that is farther away than any single star ever seen. They were only able to see the star because gravity made it look bigger. The star, which has been called Icarus, is nine billion light years away. A light year is a very long distance—about 6 trillion miles. That's how far light can travel in one year in space.
Icarus was created when the universe was very young. The star was a blue "supergiant"—much bigger and brighter than the sun. It took the light from the star about 9 billion years to reach the earth. It may seem strange, but the star is not even there any more. Actually, the light it made is still traveling through space.
Patrick Kelly worked with other scientists and NASA to spot the star. They used a telescope(望远镜)that NASA had put into space, called the Hubble Space Telescope. Mr. Kelly said, "This star is at least 100 times farther away than the next star we can study." Icarus was so far away that the scientists needed more than just the Hubble Telescope to spot it.
The scientists were able to see the star because of gravity. Gravity doesn't just pull things toward each other, it can also bend(使弯曲)light. When the light gets bent, it can make things look bigger. Scientists call this gravitational lensing.
Something really big was needed to magnify(放大)a star so far away—something even bigger than a galaxy! A galaxy is a huge group of stars. It was a whole group of galaxies that bent the light so that Icarus was big enough to see. The group of galaxies made it look 2,000 times bigger.
Scientists are excited about a new space telescope that NASA is planning. They hope that it may help them see Icarus better.
28. What makes it possible for scientists to see the star Icarus
A. Gravity. B. Open space.
C. A spaceship. D. A short distance.
29. How do scientists benefit from gravitational lensing
A. They can know the speed of light. B. They use it to track objects in space.
C. They can change the direction of light. D. They follow it to get close to the telescope.
30. What do scientists expect of the new telescope
A. It will unlock the hidden secret of gravity. B. It will replace the current space telescope.
C. It will recognize the gravity on the moon. D. It will enable them to further study the star.
31. What is the author's purpose in writing the text
A. To introduce a space station. B. To announce a space mission.
C. To share a scientific discovery. D. To explain a new study on light.
D
Earth Day is a day set aside to remind people to protect our planet. Earth Day was first held on April 22, 1970. This year, the main idea of Earth Day is to get people to use less plastic.
Plastic is so cheap, easy to make, and helpful that people use it all the time. People usually do not think about the plastic they use. Actually, most plastic is not recycled and 91% of plastic is thrown away. So where does all that plastic go
Sadly, much of the plastic ends up in the ocean. There are several large areas in the world's oceans which are filled with floating(漂浮的)rubbish. It is hard to measure the exact size of these areas, but they are huge. Scientists recently studied one of these areas, called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The research shows the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is three times as large as the country of France.
The plastic already in the ocean is a big problem. The plastic can hurt animals that live in the sea. It also breaks down into microplastics which can get into our drinking water and food, taking a big risk to our health.
Many countries have tried to limit plastic bags, either by making them against the law or by making people pay for plastic bags. Making these changes often cuts plastic bag use by 70% or more. France, Rwanda, Kenya, and China are just a few examples of countries which have worked to end plastic. In other places in the world, including the UK, governments are thinking about making plastic straws(吸管)and other single-use plastic against the law.
But no one has to wait for a new law to change what they do. The Earth Day group hopes that people make changes now, not just for Earth Day, but all year long.
32. What is a result of unrecycled plastic according to the text
A. The oceans worldwide are polluted. B. More landfill sites are badly needed.
C. The price of paper straws increases. D. People will drop more plastic products.
33. The plastic that has broken down into microplastics will__________.
A. reduce water pollution B. be good for sea animals
C. be recycled more easily D. badly affect our health
34. What is paragraph 5 mainly about
A. The difficulty of reusing plastic products. B. The efforts to address the issue of plastic.
C. The solution to the problem of fast food. D. The rising cost of living in some countries.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text
A. The Origins of Wildlife B. Opinions on Ocean Plastics
C. Let's Use Less Plastic D. Celebrate Earth Day Together

Maya was an extraordinary student at Oakridge High School. Her days were filled with activities, from early morning swim practices to late-night studies. She was a star swimmer, admired for her talent in the pool. It was her dream that she could swim along with the top swimmers in the region, or even in the country. However, her pursuit(追求)of excellence often came at a cost—her social life. While her classmates attended parties and social events, Maya had to study the textbooks.
Despite her busy schedule, Maya took up another hobby—art. With a sketchbook(素描册)in hand, she would lose herself in a world of creativity, where time stood still. Art offered her a place where she could express herself freely.
But as the pressures of high school intensified(增强), Maya found herself struggling to keep focused. The demands of her schoolwork and her pursuit of perfection in swimming left little room for anything else. She felt as though she was lost in a sea, unable to catch her breath.
One day, Maya received an invitation to attend an important art competition. It was a golden opportunity to showcase her talent on a larger stage. The news made her excited as she imagined the possibilities. Yet, her joy was short-lived.
The competition fell on the same weekend as the regional swimming championship. Maya was faced with an impossible choice: pursue her love for art or go to the swimming competition.
As the deadline for her decision got closer, Maya felt torn between two worlds, each pulling her in opposite directions. Her heart ached at the thought of letting either one go, yet she knew that she couldn't have it all. Giving the matter careful thought, Maya realized that she had to take her pick.

M: See Aren't you glad you married me I have good ideas sometimes.
(Text 10)
M: The most unforgettable experience I've ever had Well, that was three years ago when I was in college, I spent a term studying in London. Even though we speak the same language, English people and Americans are very different. They think that we Americans are friendly and that we have a strong desire to be successful and rich. And I think the British are quiet and gentle. I love the lifestyle there. Going out for afternoon tea was fun, and I always did that with my friends. And I really love the old buildings. We don't have anything that old in the United States, so it is pretty amazing! By the way, I also went to Australia once. The buildings there aren't so attractive, either. The British also have a different sense of humor. Their comedy shows on TV are really funny. I'd like to say my experience was a positive one. In fact, I'm saving up money so I can go back there again.

I'm writing to seek your help as I face a problem at the school. Recently, I have been experiencing some difficulties in getting along with my classmates. We seem to have different opinions on many things and often end up arguing. This makes it hard for me to enjoy my school life.
I wonder if there is anything you can do to help me. Perhaps there could be a workshop on effective communication to benefit international students like me. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
