第一节
One possible version:
Dear Jack,
I am planning to visit New Zealand this winter vacation. How excited I am! I would like to ask you for some information.
I wonder if you can recommend some places of interest. Your first-hand experience will be more convincing than the advertisements provided by travel agencies. Besides, I would appreciate it if you could give me some detailed information about my destination, such as local snacks, festivals or traditions. Last but not least, is there anything else I need to pay special attention to when I am there
Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
The next morning, Anna went to Mrs Smith s house again. “I think you overpaid me last night,” she said and handed the twenty-dollar bill to her. Mrs Smith looked surprised. “I didn t know where that money had gone! I knew that I had put it in my purse. Then this morning, I couldn t find it.” She started to cry. “It s the last payment for something my husband needed. I made a mistake of giving you the twenty dollars, but you are such an honest and kind girl that you did not keep it.”
Mrs Smith opened her purse and counted out six dollars. “I hope you ll baby- sit for us again. Our children think you re the best baby-sitter they ve ever had, and so do I. I think they will be proud of having such a great sister baby-sit them!” Anna said yes and went back home happily. When she gave her mother the six dollars, the best gift for her, she felt very proud because she thought she did a great job.

听力部分录音材料
(Text 1)
W:This line is so long. I just need to mail one letter.
M:This line is for people who need passport photos. You should be in that line over there. But if you use the machine over there, you can buy stamps and put your letter in the mailbox without having to wait at all.
(Text 2)
W:What can I do for you, sir
M:Is there a regular train service to Rome, aside from the additional one at 8:15 pm tomorrow
W:Yes, there is a train every morning at 9:30 that arrives in Rome at 10:15.
(Text 3)
W:What’s the score now
M:It’s 3-2 at the moment in England s favor. But Spain seems to be taking the upper hand on the field.
(Text 4)
M:Do you feel nervous if the professor calls on you in class
W:I’ll say I would be in shock.
(Text 5)
W:What were you doing last night I heard some loud noise from your house.
M:I’m terribly sorry, Mrs Johnson. I was just repairing a pipe. And my wife broke a vase by accident.
(Text 6)
M:Are you going to the shopping mall
W:No, I’m going to Sue s house.
M:Oh, right. She’s having a party tomorrow, isn’t she
W:Yes. That’s why I’m going there—to help her get ready. We’re going to make some pizza.
M:Excellent. Isn’t that her house
W:Oh no! I’ve missed my stop. I was talking to you and I forgot to get off.
M:Don’t worry. You can get off at the next stop.
(Text 7)
M:Did the telephone ring
W:I didn’t hear anything. Sometimes when the windows are open, you can hear the neighbors phone.
M:Well, I’m expecting an important phone call, and I don’t want to miss it.
W:Is it anything I should know about
M:Not really. It has something to do with work and isn’t really related to us here at home.
W:Well, why don’t you go ahead and do what you wanted to do outside. I’ll call you if the phone rings for you.
M:Thanks. I think I will. I need to go outside for some fresh air.
(Text 8)
M:Hi. Asha. Is your mother feeling any better
W:No. I’m afraid not. She s very homesick. She misses her family and friends back in India.
M:Do you think she will ever move back to India
W:I’m not sure. It’s very difficult for her, because my father and my sisters all live here in California, so she doesn’t want to leave us.
M:Does she ever go to visit her family in India
W:She goes back once a year to visit her family and friends. But when she’s in India, she misses her family in the United States.
M:It must be very hard for her, to always be torn between two places.
W:Yes, it is. And she’s always telling us not to forget our Indian culture. So, next year, my sisters and I are planning on traveling to India with her for a few months, so that we can all experience the culture together.
M:I think that’s a wonderful idea. She’ll be so happy!
(Text 9)
M:Did you have a good vacation, Katie
W:Yeah! I took a nature adventure tour. For the first part, we went hiking. It was so much fun! We hiked all the way up to these beautiful waterfalls. I took lots of pictures.
M:Sounds great. So, what else did you do during the tour
W:Well, the best part was at the end of the trip. I jumped out of an airplane.
M:Wow!
W:Yeah, it was just a fantastic vacation. But anyway, that’s enough about my vacation. How did you spend your break, Ryan
M:Oh, I drove to visit my relatives. Well, it was pretty boring, actually. It rained every day so we had to stay inside. We watched TV a lot.
W:Oh, that’s too bad.
M:No, that’s OK. I really had a good rest, even though it was a little boring.
(Text 10)
M:One early morning about a couple of years ago, a longtime friend of mine, Tom Lee, was walking through Central Park on his way to work. On a path behind the Great Museum, he noticed a large newspaper sheet lying ahead. When he picked it up, he discovered a brown leather purse underneath, rather flat, which suggested nothing was in it. He opened it up just to check and spotted a flash of green, the color of US dollars. He looked in the purse and discovered a couple of ten-dollar bills and behind the dollars a twenty-dollar bill. Then behind the twenty there were more than ten hundred-dollar bills. That was quite a lot of money. Tom tried to find out who owned it, but there was no indication in the purse. So Tom became a little worried about the owner. Did Tom find the owner finally Yes, but it makes a long story and I’ll include this story in my new book Honest Men Today.
