It is in human nature to explore new things. To the at end, many countries have bean exploring space for many decades, particularly the US, Russia, and countries in Europe.
President Xi Jinping praised the success of the Chang'e 5 mission(使命) in bringing back the country's first samples(样本) collected from the moon. The whole country is proud of this breakthrough. At university, when I told people I was studying for a history degree, the response was almost always the same, "You want to be a teacher " No, a journalist. "Oh. But you re not majoring in communications "
In the days when a university education was a privilege, perhaps there wasn t the assumption that a degree had to be a springboard directly into a career. Those days are long gone. Today, a degree is all but a necessity for the job arket, one that more than halves your chances of being unemployed. Still, that alone is no guarantee of a job—and yet we re paying more and more for one.
Given those costs, most of us want to maximize that investment—and that can lead to a plug-and-play type of approach to higher education. Want to be a journalist Study journalism, we re told. A lawyer Pursue pre-law. Not totally sure Go into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineer and Maths)—you can become an engineer or an IT expert. And no matter what you do, forget the humanities, such as history, philosophy and languages.
It s true that the humanities come with a higher risk of unemployment, but the risk is slighter than you would imagine. For young people in the US, the unemployment rate of those with humanities degrees is four percent, just a little more than that of engineering degree holders. Lower salaries may not be caused by the degree itself either. The gender pay gap persists in the humanities, whose graduates are more likely to be female. Is it any wonder then that language teachers tend to make less than engineers
According to LinkedIn s research on the most sought-after job skills by employers for 2019, the ability to communicate and get along with people, to understand what s on other people s minds, and to do full-strength critical analysis were all valued and appreciated. It goes without saying that you can be an excellent communicator and critical thinker without a humanities degree. And any good university education, not just one in English or psychology, should sharpen these abilities further. But few courses of study are quite as heavy on reading, writing, speaking and critical thinking as the humanities—whether that s by debating other students in a seminar, writing a thesis paper or analyzing poetry.
The whole question of whether a student should choose STEM versus the humanities might be misguided to begin with. The headlines most of us see don t help. Whatever a student pursues in university, it must be something that they are not only good at, but interested in. Even if it means pursuing a "useless" degree—like one in humanities.
28.Why are people paying more and more for a degree
A. Because people need a degree to further their career.
B. Because university education is considered a privilege.
C. Because a degree is viewed as a must for landing a job.
D. Because their interest can be developed in university.
29.The author mentioned a plug-and-play type of approach to show ________.
A. a tip for choosing a major
B. the importance of higher education
C. a problem that exists among STEM graduates
D. the reason why people overlook the humanities
30.According to the author, what is the benefit of majoring in humanities
A. A comparatively high salary after graduation.
B. Better chances of getting rid of gender prejudice.
C. A better communicative skill than science students.
D. More exposure to the training of language and thinking.
31.What is the author s attitude toward the pursuit of humanities
A. Doubtful. B. Optimistic. C. Objective. D. Concerned.
D
If you want to tell the history of the whole world, a history that does not privilege one part of humanity, you cannot do it through texts alone, because only some of the world has ever had texts, while most of the world, for most of the time, has not. Writing is one of humanity s later achievements, and until fairly recently even many literate(有文字的)societies recorded their concerns not only in writing but in things.
Ideally a history would bring together texts and objects, and some chapters of this book are able to do just that, but in many cases we simply can t. The clearest example of this between literate and non-literate history is perhaps the first conflict, at Botany Bay, between Captain Cook s voyage and the Australian Aboriginals. From the English side, we have scientific reports and the captain s record of that terrible day. From the Australian side, we have only a wooden shield(盾)dropped by a man in flight after his first experience of gunshot. If we want to reconstruct what was actually going on that day, the shield must be questioned and interpreted as deeply and strictly as the written reports.
In addition to the problem of miscomprehension from both sides, there are victories accidentally or deliberately twisted, especially when only the victors know how to write. Those who are on the losing side often have only their things to tell their stories. The Caribbean Taino, the Australian Aboriginals, the African people of Benin and the Incas, all of whom appear in this book, can speak to us now of their past achievements most powerfully through the objects they made: a history told through things gives them back a voice. When we consider contact(联系)between literate and non-literate societies such as these, all our first-hand accounts are necessarily twisted, only one half of a dialogue. If we are to find the other half of that conversation, we have to read not just the texts, but the objects.
32.What is the first paragraph mainly about
A. How past events should be presented.
B. What humanity is concerned about.
C. Whether facts speak louder than words.
D. Why written language is reliable.
33.What does the author indicate by mentioning Captain Cook in paragraph 2
A. His report was scientific. B. He represented the local people.
C. He ruled over Botany Bay. D. His record was one-sided.
34.What does the underlined word “conversation” in paragraph 3 refer to
A. Problem. B. History. C. Voice. D. Society.
35.Which of the following books is the text most likely selected from
A. How Maps Tell Stories of the World
B. A Short History of Australia
C. A History of the World in 100 Objects
D. How Art Works Tell Stories

Many people think that positive thinking is mostly about keeping one s head in the sand and ignoring daily problems, trying to look optimistic. In reality it has more to do with the way an individual talks to himself. Self-talk is a constant stream of thoughts of a person, who is often unaware and uncertain of some events, phenomena, people, or even the person himself. (36) Meanwhile, positive thinking can help to stop negative self-talks and start to form a positive view on an issue. People who regularly practise positive thinking tend to solve problems more effectively. They are less exposed to stress caused by external factors. They tend to believe in themselves and in what they do.
(37) People who think positively demonstrate increased life spans(寿命), lower rates of depression and anxiety, better physical and psychological health, reduced risks of death from heart problems. Positive thinking also contributes to one s ability to deal with problems and hardships. (38) For example, researchers have found that in the case of a crisis accompanied by strong emotions, such as a natural disaster, positive thinking can provide a sort of buffer(缓冲作用)against depression and anxiety. Resilient(适应性强的)people who think positively tend to treat every problem as a challenge, a chance for improvement of any kind, or as an opportunity for personal growth. Pessimists, on the contrary, tend to perceive problems as a source of additional stress. (39)
In conclusion, positive thinking is a powerful and effective tool for dealing with hard times and improving the quality of one s life. It doesn t have anything to do with ignorant optimism when an individual refuses to notice a problem. (40) Thinking in a positive, self-encouraging way brings about many benefits to one s physical and mental health.
A.It doesn t cause any severe emotional discomfort, either.
B.Negative self-talk damages self-confidence and decreases self-respect.
C.It helps one to remain clear-headed and confident in difficult situations.
D.Positive thinking has several beneficial effects on the body and the mind.
E.As thinking changes, an individual s behaviour and habits change as well.
F.They often offer a real alternative to the common and regular way of thinking.
G.They often feel discouraged long before trying to solve the problem, even if small.

I keep a two-dollar bill in my wallet that was given to me by my mother when I was six years old. I still remember the day when she pulled me into the living room and said, "You are brilliant in my mind, but if you fail once don't give up. Don't fear failure. It is a way of getting us to try harder. You will succeed, I promise."
She looked at me and continued, "I want you to carry this two-dollar bill for extra good luck."
"Thanks mom," I replied. "I will keep it close to me always."
I am not superstitious(迷信的), but from that day on the bill goes with me wherever I go. I firmly believe that luck would follow me everywhere.
Every morning I would get dressed and my two-dollar bill went into my pocket. My mother passed away when I was 17 years old and I remember taking out my two-dollar bill. I held it in my hand for the longest time and knew that she would be watching over me the rest of my life.
Each time I felt I had a crisis on my hands, I would reach for my two-dollar bill and set it on the table. I would stare at it for several hours and could always come up with a solution.
When I applied for my first job, I was thirty years old and very shy. The thought of being interviewed for a job was scary but I had to work. On my first interview, as I sat in the waiting room, I noticed there were five women ahead of me. All of the women were younger and very well dressed. One of them looked perfect in her blue striped suit with matching purse and shoes. I knew I was up against women better qualified by looking at the length of their resumes(简历).

W: Why not study in the library There are big tables we can use, and it's in the same building. Just two floors above.

Good evening, everyone! In a few days, it will finally be time to lie on the beach and enjoy the hot summer. However, when it comes to outdoor activities, whether you're relaxing at the lake or hanging out in the backyard, you need to pay attention to the weather.
