One morning, Charlie Latuske woke up feverish in his home in Surrey in the UK, leaving him unable to function. He’d had a sore throat for a few days, believing it would get better, but that morning, he knew that he was in need of a doctor.
“I was quite out of it,” said 27-year-old Latuske, who was also expected to go on vacation with his wife in just three days.
Short on time, he feared the idea of calling his local physician only to wait days or to wait in a long line for an appointment, “I just needed to be seen without messing around with long lines of people,” he said. “When you’re that ill, that’s the last thing you want to do.”
These days, the solution is somewhat easier, thanks to the Internet.
Latuske’s wife showed him a private medical app with which he could see a doctor w thin the hour—virtually. For 30, he could signup, share his symptoms(症状) and video-call a doctor in the UK using the digital health provider Push Doctor. The app is on c of many now available(可用的) worldwide to help people in need of medical attention who are unable to get to a doctor for various reasons.
“I was highly skeptical,” he said, adding that he didn’t trust such a service and questioned the professionalism of doctors available through it. “But I was in great need of a doctor.”
Within 20 minutes, he was speaking with a doctor, who soon diagnosed(诊断) him with tons ii is, a common disease.

Blood maybe thicker than water when it comes to human relationships and it seems that the same is true of jackdaws(寒鸦) after scientists found they readily change friends to gain food but stick with family even at the risk of going hungry.
Alex Thornton, a professor of leaning ability development, said, “We kept track of hundreds of wild jackdaws, each of which was equipped with a small chip. In this experiment we divided jackdaws into two groups—A or B—and programmed a pair of computer-controlled devices(装置) to provide worms. Only if individuals from the same group (AA or BB) visited together, will they get the worms.” If birds from different groups arrived together—A with B―the feeders would remain closed. Single birds would I get seeds(种子), but not the worms that they preferred.
Thornton said, “We wanted to find out if jackdaws could build new relations with new partners. They might have friends in the wrong group. Do jackdaws leave them and start to hang out with individuals who are in the right group The jackdaws turned out to be very smart quickly learning to give up friends from the wrong group to get the best food. However, they acted differently when it came to their close relations even if they got nothing.
Thormton said jackdaws were an excellent subject matter as they were clever and had energetic social networks. “You’ve got individuals coming and going far beyond their strong relationships, and they have lots of other company. They are similar to human society.” Michael Kings, of the University of Exeter, said, “These results help our understanding of the development of intelligence as they show that being able to track and remember information about social partners can bring them good.”
28. Which of the following do jackdaws value most according to the experiment
A. Their family. B. Their friends.
C. Staying away from risks. D. Avoiding going hungry.
29. What can be learned about the jackdaws in the experiment
A. Jackdaws from different groups got seeds
B. Jackdaws on their own got the worms.
C. Jackdaws with their family got nothing.
D. Jackdaws from the same group got worms.
30. How did the scientists carryout the search
A. By making jackdaws behave like humans with chips
B. By tracking the behavior of wild jackdaws when finding food.
C. By surveying how the two groups of jackdaws getting along.
D. By comparing different behaviors between humans and jackdaws.
31. What is the purpose of the last paragraph
A. To explain the significance of the research.
B. To provide possible reasons for the results.
C. To suggest application of the research findings.
D. To point out the possible problem in the research
D
When young, my parents took me to a zoo. I remember looking in admiration at two bears in a cage. Things have changed. My kids would be afraid to see animals in cages. Today, we expect animals to be held in more natural environment, and for zoos to do more to make the world a better place.
Zoos can host great conservation(保护) work. Sometimes they hold and protect endangered animals. About 40 seriously endangered animal species exist mainly in zoos. They are us for study, reproducing(繁殖) programs and even to reintroduce the animals to the wild. But not many zoos do enough of this. I support the recommendation of some researchers that zoos should spend at least 10%of their money on biodiversity(生物多样性) conservation. Sadly, a 1999 study showed an average spending of only 0.1%.
If zoos totally concentrate on protection, we might expect them to mostly house threatened species. But many zoos focus on the big animals that draw audiences to make money. I say that’s inappropriate(不合适的). I don’t mean zoos shouldn’t be a business. Since care of animals can be extremely expensive, it’s reasonable for zoos to open their doors to earn some money, as long as animals are kept in acceptable conditions.
Visiting animals in real life helps develop an appreciation for the natural world. Virtual-reality (VR) glasses and movies about wildlife are worthwhile, but not the same. A friend of mine who works in the Amazon puts it this way: “To love the forest, you need to smell the forest.”
Conservation should come first for all zoos, together with education and research. Without that, a zoo becomes just a business: one that the world would be better off without.
32. How did the author feel when seeing two bears in a cage in his childhood
A. He was scared of the scene B. He felt worried about his safety.
C. He felt sad about the caged bears. D. He was amazed by the wonder of animals.
33. What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 2 refer to
A. Protecting endangered animals properly.
B. Keeping animals in more natural conditions.
C. Holding non-threatened species in much greater numbers.
D. Spending part of their money on biodiversity conservation.
34. What does the author’s friend imply in his words
A. VR helps zoos to make money.
B. Animals should live in the wild.
C. VR enables viewers to know more about wildlife
D. Visiting animals in real life is a necessary experience.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Zoos need to be changed. B. Zoos should be not allowed.
C. Zoos shouldn’t be a business. D. Animals shouldn’t be kept in zoos.

39
Does your child love sports Math helps them keep track of their performance and improve. Figure out a way to take the current math they are working on in school and then apply it to something they like. This may take some homework on your part but it will pay off in no time!
Go along with math games
Let’s not try to force math homework to be fun, rather find a teaching aid that puts math in a new light. With advancement in technology, math games have become designed to teach entire lessons and concepts rather than simple problems like the games of days past. 40

I grew up in a small town where the primary school was a ten-minute walk from my house. When the noon bell rang, I would race breathlessly home. My mother would be standing at the top of the stairs, smiling down at me.
One lunchtime will stay with me always. I had been picked to be the princess in the school play, and for weeks my mother had practised so hard with me. But no matter how easily I acted at home, as soon as I stepped onstage, every word disappeared from my head. Finally, my teacher took me aside, explaining she had added a narrator to the play, and asking me to change roles. Her words, kindly expressed, still hurt especially when I saw my part go to another girl.
I didn’t tell my mother what had happened when I went home for lunch that day. But she sensed my pain. Instead of suggesting we practice my lines, she asked if I wanted to walk in the yard.
It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine(藤) was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see the grass beautifully dotted with many small but bright yellow dandelions(蒲公英). It looked as if a painter had touched the picture with gold. I watched my mother bend(弯腰) down by one dandelion. “I think I’m going to dig up all these wildflowers,” she said, pulling it up by its roots. “From now on, we’ll have only roses in this garden.”
“But I like dandelions,” I strongly disagreed. “All flowers are beautiful—even dandelions.”
My mother looked at me seriously. “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it ” She asked thoughtfully. I nodded, pleased that I had won her over. “And that is true of people too,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no shame in that.” Relieved that she had guessed my pain, I started to cry while telling her what had happened. She listened and smiled reassuringly(令人感到宽慰地).
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
“But you will be a beautiful narrator,” she said.
After the play, I took the flower home.

Dear John,
How is everything going with you I’m so happy to have received your email, in which you showed great concern about my study and my plan for the coming summer holiday. Now I’d like to share them with you.
This term has witnessed great progress in my study. Not only have I learned some great topics, such as Festivals and Celebrations and Diverse Cultures, but also I have a better understanding of English grammar. Therefore, I am more confident than before. As for my holiday plan, I choose to join a health club and decide to take exercise for at least an hour a day. Meanwhile, I plan to read at least 3 good books. Time permitting, a journey to my dream city Hangzhou with my friends will be included. Of course, I will help my mother with some chores too.
Thank you very much for your concern and I sincerely invite you to China for a visit. I’m sure you must have a wonderful trip! Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua

“But you will be a beautiful narrator,” she said. Softly, Mum encouraged and comforted me as she always did. My beloved mom, wearing a shining smile on her scarlet face, added, “The narrator’s part is important, too.” Thanks to her encouragement which calmed me down gradually, I began to accept that the narrator part was of vital significance. The performance day arrived before I realized it. At first I was still nervous, but it was at that very moment that I found a dandelion in my pocket. I knew my mom passed the flower to me, which was meant to keep me company and encourage me to play my part.
After the play, I took the flower home. Mom carefully gazed at the dandelion, gently pressed it into the dictionary and grinned happily as she did. “We were perhaps the only people who would press such a sorry-looking weed.” Though decades have passed, I constantly recall our precious lunchtimes spent together, clinging to each other, bathed in the soft midday light. For this, I am forever grateful, because my mother helps me fully appreciate that every flower can give pleasure in its own way and so can I.
“But you will be a beautiful narrator,” she said. Mum reminded me of how much I loved to read stories aloud to her. “The narrator’s part is every bit as important as the part of a princess.” Her constant encouragement filled me with pride but before the night of the performance, I suddenly felt nervous backstage. My teacher came over to me. “Your mother asked me to give this to you,” she said, handing me a dandelion. Looking at it, I knew my mother was out there.
After the play, I took the flower home. My mother pressed it between two sheets of paper in a dictionary, laughing as she did it, saying that, “We were perhaps the only people who would press such a sorry-looking weed.” After all these years, I often look back on our lunchtimes together, bathed in the soft midday light. For this, I am forever grateful, because my mother helps me fully appreciate that every flower can give pleasure in its own way and so can I.

W: We have to send our film to the competition office before the 12th of June, and they’ll post the winner on their website on the 19th of June. Then, they’ll show the winning film at a film festival on the 30th of June.
M: Right. Where is the film festival Is it at the cinema in town
W: Not this year. It’s at the new film school. It’s not far from the arts centre.

(Text 10)
Some people prefer the traditional way of learning — in a classroom, with a teacher and other students. However, more people are turning to studying online. Jimmy was one of these. He wanted to study business in English. He thought it was expensive to study at college. To save money, he began an online course at first. Jimmy says his online teacher was good, but he doesn’t think studying on his own is as enjoyable as being with his friends in class. After three months’ studying online, Jimmy went to study at college. Although he had thought the online and college courses were similar, he found it difficult to study online in English as he is Spanish. In the classroom, with English students, it was easier. Sally has another opinion. Sometimes she got to lessons early or stayed on after they finished, because it was difficult for her to study with so much happening in the classroom. She likes the people in class with her, but says that studying online is more peaceful.

22. A。 No experience is required and detailed instruction
will be provided和The Analects of Confucius Course中的No experience is required but you need to bring a computer with Internet connection可知,这两门课程均适合初学者。
23. A。 Click here to get more information可知,这篇材料可能来自某个网站。
根据第三段第一句中的he feared the idea of calling his local physician only to wait days or
even a week for an appointment, or to wait in a long line for an emergency appointment及Latuske所说的I just needed to be seen without messing around with long lines of people 可知,Latuske 很发愁看医生,因为
Latuske’s wife showed him a private medical app with which he could see a doctor within the hour—virtually可知,Latuske的妻子给他推荐了一款私人医疗应用程序。
26. C。 根据第六段第一句中的he didn’t trust such a service and questioned the credentials of doctors available through it及Latuske所说的But I was in great need of a doctor可知,起初,Latuske并不信赖妻子推荐的哪款应用程序。
27. A。 Within 20 minutes, he was speaking with a doctor, who soon diagnosed him
Within the hour, he was at his nearest pharmacy, collecting medicines及最后一段中Latuske说说的I was impressed by the efficiency of the whole thing可知,通过妻子推荐的医疗应用程序,Latuske很快就弄清楚了自己的病情,并且买到了药。
28. A。 由文章第一段“Blood may be thicker than water when it comes to human relationships and it appears that the same is true of jackdaws (寒鸦) after scientists found they readily switch friends to gain food but stick with family even at the risk of going hungry.(在人际关系中,血浓于水,寒鸦似乎也是如此。科学家发现,它们为了获得食物,很容易换朋友,但即使冒着挨饿的风险,也会坚持与家人在一起。)”可知,对寒鸦来说最重要的是 他们的家庭。故选A。
29. D。 由文章第二段“Alex Thornton,…, said, “We monitor hundreds of wild jackdaws, each of
which is fitted with a tiny PIT tag like the chips (芯片)…—embedded in (嵌入) a leg ring. In this experiment we randomly divided jackdaws into two groups — A or B — and programmed a pair of computer-controlled devices to provide worms only if individuals from the same group (AA or BB) visited together.” If birds from different groups arrived together—A with B—the feeders would remain closed. Single birds would get grain, but not the more desirable worms.(认知进化教授亚历克斯·桑顿说:“我们对数百只野生寒鸦进行了监测,每只寒鸦身上都装有一个微型PIT标签,就像宠物猫和狗的芯片一样,嵌入腿环中。
由文章第二段 “We follow hundreds of wild jackdaws, each of which is fitted with a tiny PIT tag like the chips (芯片)…programmed a pair of computer-controlled devices(装置) to provide worms only if individuals from the same group (AA or BB) visited together.”
31. A。 由文章最后一段中“These results help our understanding-of the development of learning ability as they show that being able to track and remember information about social partners can bring good.(这些结果有助我们理解智力的进化,因为它们表明能够追踪和记住有关社交对象的信息可以带来好处。)” 故选A。
I remember looking in admiration at two bears in a cage可知,作者看到被关在笼子里的两只熊时表现出了惊讶。
33. A。 Sometimes they hold and protect endangered animals可知,在合理保护濒危动物方面,动物园做得不够。
34. D。 Virtual-reality(VR) glasses and movies about wildlife are worthwhile, but not the same...To love the jungle, you need to smell the jungle可知,观看有关野生动物的虚拟现实的电影是值得的,但是和身临其境去观看野生动物不一样,想要爱上丛林,你需要去闻它的气味,由此可推知,作者朋友的话表示身临其境去观看在大自然中生活的动物是有必要的。

39. B。后文“Does your child love sports Math helps them keep track of their performance and improve. Figure out a way to take the current math they are working on in school and then apply it to something they like. This may take some homework on your part, but it will pay off in no time!
40. F。前文“With advancement in technology, math games have become designed to teach entire lessons and concepts rather than simple problems like the games of days past.(随着科技的进步,数学游戏已经被设计成教授整个课程和概念,而不是像过去的游戏那样简单的问题)”介绍数学游戏因为科技进步而变成课程和概念,空处作为段尾句,应该承接前文,可能与这样情况的结果相关,因此F项“Your kids will explore a different world while playing math games(你的孩子会在玩数学游戏的时候探索一个不同的世界)”符合语境,其中的math games 在前文有同词复现。故选F。
