The Three Best Cities to Visit in France

Biarritz
If you're looking for somewhere with a different atmosphere, you'll find it in the resort city of Biarritz. The Atlantic waves have made this a peaceful place for surfers from France. This part of France loves its rugby, and the local team, Biarritz Olympique, is very popular there.
Rouen
Much of its history can still be seen in the city today, making it a breathing museum on the banks of the Seine. Modern-day Rouen is still one of the best cities to visit in France.

I turned off the classroom light, only to find a tearful Laura outside the door. “Sister Jo, can I talk to you Do you have time ” I smiled. “I always have time for you, honey.” We sat in the empty classroom as she described the effect her dad's alcoholism was having. After half an hour, she said. “I know you can't do anything about it, but thanks for listening. My mom keeps saying, ‘He's sick! Alcoholism is a disease!’ ” I gave her a hug. Then it hit me. Why hadn't I taken Laura out walking with me
The next day was just as lovely. At 3: 00 p. m. , Brian was at the door. “Hi, can I talk to you ” “Sure”, I answered. “But it's such perfect weather. Can we go for a walk ” We circled the lake near our school and talked about helping troubled kids.
On Laura's next visit, she accepted my invitation to walk. I had a surprise for her. Classmate Tom had given me brochures from Alateen. “Someone in your class said his dad has the same problem.” I told Laura. “If I may share your story, he'll drive you to Alateen meetings.” The skills in the book inspired Laura. “Okay. My mom will let me ride with him.” Laura wasn't the only teen with an alcoholic parent.

Too little sleep is making us sick. In an interview with the Guardian, Matthew Walker explains how.
Through his work, he's determined that people who don't get enough sleep tend to be less healthy and have lower energy levels than those who get the recommended amount of sleep per night. After analyzing the results of 20 separate studies, he's found a strong connection between how much people sleep and how long they live.
This is a problem, particularly because many of us are used to equating sleep with laziness. “We want to seem busy, and one way we express that is by showing how little sleep we're getting,” he told the Guardian.
In one study, adults age 45 and older that slept less than 6 hours each night were 200% more likely to have a heart attack or stroke during their lifetime compared to participants who got seven or eight hours. In other studies, sleeping less has been associated with an increased risk of weight gain, and relapses(旧病复发). On a basic level, lack of sleep also lowered participants' immune(免疫的) systems.
“I'm not going to say that the obesity crisis is caused by the sleep-loss illness alone,” says Walker. “It's not. However, processed food and sedentary(久坐不动的) lifestyles do not enough explain its rise. People use alarms to wake up. So why don't we have a bedtime alarm to tell us we've got half an hour before going to bed ”
8. What conclusion did Walker draw according to Paragraph 2
A. Too much sleep is equal to laziness. B. Not enough sleep is involved with weight loss.
C. Enough sleep is good for health.
9. Why do we show how little sleep we're getting according to Walker
A. To make us respected. B. To make us appear busy. C. To be very popular.
10. What does the fourth paragraph mainly tell us
A. The harm of sleeping less. B. The benefits of sleep. C. The length of sleep each night.
11. What can we know from the last Paragraph
A. Using alarms to wake up is proper. B. A bedtime alarm should be necessary.
C. Processed food is the leading cause of obesity.
D
While the start of a new school year is always exciting, this year was even more so for some elementary school students in Auckland, New Zealand. They became the world's first kids to be “taught” by a digital teacher, Will. Wil is just an avatar(用户头像) that pops up on the student's desktop, tablet, or smartphone screen, not a human-like robot walking around the classroom.
The animation(动画制作) platform has been modeled after the human brain and nervous system, allowing it to show human-like behavior. Launched in 2005, the award-winning program, previously taught by humans, is designed to educate kids about energy use, and the different forms of renewable(可再生的) energy such as solar and wind.
Just like the humans it replaced, Will is able to instantly react to the students' responses to the topic. Thanks to a webcam and microphone, the avatar not only responds to questions the kids may have, but also picks up non-verbal cues.
The program, in place since August 2018, has been a great success thus far. Ravishankar says, “What was fascinating to me was the reaction of the children to Will. The way they look at the world is so creative and different, and Will really captured(引起) their attention.”
However, regardless of how popular it becomes, Will is unlikely to replace human educators anytime soon.
12. What does the underlined phrase “pops up” in Paragraph 1 mean
A. Appears. B. Dances. C. Responds.
13. Why was Will modeled after human's brain system
A. To make it popular. B. To behavior like humans. C. To educate the program vividly.
14. What if students ask Will questions in class
A. It responds to them at once. B. It picks up its microphone. C. It gives them smiles first.
15. What happened when students saw Will in class
A. They felt shocked. B. They reacted strangely.
C. They focused their attention on Will.
