A group of young people in San Antonio is changing plastic bags into sleeping mats(睡垫)for the city’s homeless people. Led by Teens Give Back SATX, these young people are making a real difference for those who need help.
“We often forget how lucky we are to have a bed to sleep in at night after a long day of work or school, and how nice it feels. Homeless people have no shelters(避难所) or even no beds,” said Addie Roberts from Teens Give Back SATX. With this in mind, Roberts and her friends decided to use old grocery bags to make something valuable for San Antonio’s homeless people.
Making these sleeping mats takes time, hard work, and teamwork. Each mat needs about 700 to 900 plastic bags, and it can take 15—20 hours to finish one. Even though the project is a lot of work, the young people are determined to help their community.
“In some weather conditions, these mats can save lives by keeping people off the cold ground,” said Rex Brien, Vice President of Emergency Services for SAMMinistries. Just providing a barrier between people and the weather can really help those who have nowhere else to sleep.
In the past year, Teens Give Back SATX has made around 50 mats, showing how committed(尽心尽力的) they are to helping San Antonio’s homeless people. As the young people keep working to turn trash(垃圾) into treasure, they invite others to join them and make a difference.
24. What is the main goal of Teens Give Back SATX in the text
A. To teach about trash. B. To help homeless people.

C. Public health awareness. D. The sense of satisfaction.

This is a video interview. An AI interviewer is on the screen. It asks: “From your resume(简历), we know you took part in an activity; please talk about the role you played in it. “Unlike real people who would size you up in past interviews, this interviewer’s body movements still have a somewhat mechanical(机械的) feeling, so you’re not as nervous as before.
As AI technology gradually becomes wide-ranging, more and more companies start using AI to improve recruitment(招聘) efficiency, handling tasks such as job matching, intelligent interviews, etc. Some job seekers can also use AI tools for resume preparing, interview practice, and instant feedback.
In the future, will HR(人力资源) be replaced In response to the question, CEO Ye Xiangyu believes: “As technology develops, the originally inefficient work of HR will be made more efficient. In the vast field of human resources, after AI handles some tool-type tasks, it can free up time for HR to accomplish more and more important other tasks. Above all else, AI will likely extend the capabilities of HR professionals rather than replacing them entirely.
Perhaps in the future, this industry will experience a brief period of growing pains, but according to existing research data, the majority of job seekers still value human decision-making in hiring processes.
For companies, seizing the AI opportunity and truly improving efficiency with AI technology has become a test they must face. However, the road for AI to empower the recruitment industry is still very long, with software development and technical advancements continually evolving. AI offers guidelines, and downloading insights from AI systems can enhance decision-making, but human’s judgment remains important.
28. How will you be if you are receiving a video interview by AI according to paragraph 1
A. Less nervous. B. More confident. C. In low spirits. D. More curious.
29. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “handling” in the second paragraph
A. bringing up B. speeding up C. dealing with D. getting rid of
30. What does CEO Ye Xiangyu think about AI and HR
A. AI will make HR jobs useless.
B. Al will allow HR to do more important stuff.
C. HR people will have to do different jobs.
D. AI will do all HR work.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. AI: A Long Way to the Future B. AI: The Role in Recruitment
C. AI: The Replacement of Humans D. AI: The End of Human Decision-Making
D
Celebrities(名人) have all sorts of strange diets. One of the latest diets among celebrities is the “OMAD”. Instead of only fasting on certain days or only eating your meals during a specific time window, people following OMAD eat all their day’s calories in one single, large meal.
One study so far has looked at the effect of OMAD in humans. In this study, participants(参与者) were given the same number of calories to eat each day. For half of the study, participants ate these calories in a single meal, before switching(转换) and eating their daily calories in three meals. Each meal pattern was only followed for an 11-day period-not very long at all. The one meal was taken between 5 p. m. and 7 p. m., ensuring a particular flavour to the timing. Only 11 participants completed the study, suggesting a limited results.
When participants ate just one meal per day, they saw a greater reduction in their body weight, indicating a potential association between OMAD and weight loss. However, participants also experienced greater reductions in bone density(密度) when eating just one meal a day, suggesting a need to vary the diet for health. This could lead to reduced muscle function and greater risk of bone fractures(骨折) if the diet was to be followed for a longer period.
While these results may indicate that OMAD could have benefits for some aspects of health, there’s still a lot we don’t know about it. It will be important for future studies to investigate(调查) the effect of OMAD in a larger number of participants and in other groups of people, as this study only included thin, young adults. It will also be important for studies to look at the effect of OMAD over a longer period of time, and to conduct these trials in a real-life setting.
32. What is the primary characteristic of the OMAD diet according to the text
A. One large meal per day. B. Low calorie eating.
C. Plain flavour. D. Multiple small meals.
33. According to the study mentioned, what effect did the OMAD diet have on participants
A. Weight gain. B. Weight loss. C. Increase in fat. D. Increase in height.
34. Which group of people were involved in the study discussed in the text
A. Elderly people. B. Overweight adults. C. Young people. D. Children.
35. What does the text suggest about future research on the OMAD diet
A. Stopping unnecessary studies. B. Reducing participants.
C. Exploring long-term effects. D. Testing only in the lab.

When I was eight years old, my family moved from Japan to Canada. In Japan, I was a lively girl who enjoyed sharing my dolls and jokes and loved making people laugh with my jokes and creating imaginative games to play with my friends. However, when we settled in Canada, I struggled to adapt. I was born shy and wasn’t good at making new friends. During my first days at school I looked at others who were talking in groups happily. How I wish I were one of them!
We settled in a comfortable house with a nice garden where we grew vegetables—my responsibility. While I enjoyed looking after them, I often daydreamed about having a great garden like my classmate Alice’s, with its roses. Despite living in the same neighborhood, Alice and I hardly talked.
It was a hurricane that brought Alice and I closer.
The hurricane struck on an afternoon. The gentle wind turned into a heavy storm, and the sky became dark with thick gray clouds. Gradually, the hurricane took shape. My entire family gathered in the bathroom, seeking shelter from the storm. Frightened, I sat close to my mom, knees in my chest. After the storm had passed, our worries and fears were replaced by relief that we were unharmed and that our house had remained undamaged.
As I stepped outside, I witnessed(见证) the extent of the damage the hurricane had caused to our neighborhood. Across the street, a tall tree had fallen, crushing(严重破坏) Alice’s garden in front of her yellow house. We hurried over to check on it. Fortunately, none of her family was injured. However, her once-beautiful garden was in ruins, with the fallen tree destroying the roses and debris(碎片) spread everywhere. The roses that Alice used to be proud of were gone.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I was imagining how heartbroken Alice must feel seeing this when she appeared in the garden.

30.B。细节理解题。根据第三段中CEO Ye Xiangyu 说的话“As technology develops, the originally inefficient work of HR will be made more efficient. In the vast field of human resources, after AI handles some tool-type tasks, it can free up time for HR to accomplish more and more important other tasks.(随着技术的发展,原本效率低下的人力资源工作将变得更加高效。在广阔的人力资源领域,人工智能在处理了一些工具型的任务后,可以为人力资源部门腾出时间来完成越来越重要的其他任务。)”可知B项正确。

[名人有各种奇怪的饮食习惯。名人们最新的饮食方式之一是‘OMAD(一日一餐)’。与只在特定的日子里禁食或只在特定的时间内进食不同,遵循OMAD饮食方式的人在一顿大餐中摄入了一天中所有的卡路里。]”可知A项正确。
33.B。细节理解题。根据第三段第一句话“When participants ate just one meal per day, they saw a greater reduction in their body weight, indicating a potential association between OMAD and weight loss.(当参与者每天只吃一顿饭时,他们的体重下降幅度更大,这表明OMAD和体重减轻之间存在潜在的联系。)”可知B项正确。
34. C。细节理解题。根据最后一段第二句话“It will be important for future studies to investigate(调查) the effect of OMAD in a larger number of participants and in other groups of people, as this study only included thin, young adults.(对于未来的研究来说,调查OMAD对更多参与者和其他人群的影响是很重要的,因为这项研究只包括瘦削的年轻人。)”可知答案为C。
35.C。细节理解题。根据最后一段最后一句话“It will also be important for studies to look at the effect of OMAD over a longer period of time, and to conduct these trials in a real-life setting.(在更长的一段时间内观察 OMAD的影响以及在现实环境中进行这些试验也很重要。)”可知答案为C。

37. G。G项“The safest place during an earthquake is likely an open field with no trees around.(地震时最安全的地方可能是周围没有树木的开阔地带。)”与第二段最后一句照应。本段开始讲地震的时候在室外怎么做,然后再引出地震时在室内怎么做,并引出下文。所以G正确。
38. A。上文“When you feel the ground shaking or something crashing, get down on your hands and knees.(当你感觉到地面震动或有东西坠落时,趴在地上。)”告诉我们感到震动时要趴下,可推知选A项,说明趴下的好处。故选A。
39.D。D项里面的“if…”从句与下文的“if not…”照应,故选D。

Animals Protection, Everyone’s Duty
Dear Friends,
Wild animals are in trouble. They’re losing their homes, facing hunters, and struggling with climate change.
But we can help. We need to do a few things to keep animals safe. We can make more places where they can live without being bothered. We should also stop people from hunting them illegally and selling them. And we can try to use things that don’t hurt animals’ homes. Saving animals isn’t just about keeping cute animals around. It’s about keeping the world in balance. Every animal helps keep things working right. So let’s all do our part to help animals. We can tell others about the problem, help groups that save animals, and make choices that are good for the Earth.
Let’s work together to make sure animals stay safe. Protecting wildlife is something we all need to do.

I was imagining how heartbroken Alice must feel seeing this when she appeared in the garden. Alice stood there, her eyes filled with tears as she surveyed the garden. Without hesitation, I rushed to her side, offering a comforting hug. “I’m so sorry, Alice,” I murmured, unsure of what else to say. She looked at me, her expression a mix of sadness and gratitude. Together, we began clearing the debris, restoring what we could from the destruction. After a while, our parents also joined us. We formed a team, uniting our efforts to rebuild what the hurricane had destroyed. As we worked side by side, laughter and conversation filled the air, easing the weight of the tragedy that had fallen on us.
Looking at the restored garden, we could imagine attractive roses next spring. Alice expressed her gratitude, her eyes shining with tears of appreciation as she hugged me tightly. In that moment, I felt a warmth spreading through me, knowing that our friendship had deepened through shared adversity. The restored garden was not just a witness to our hard work, but also a reminder of the bond that had blossomed between us. As we stood side by side, surveying our handiwork, I realized that sometimes, it takes a storm to reveal the true beauty of friendship.

Text 1
M: Look at the sky, Jane. How clear it is now!
W: Yes. Luckily, the wind in the afternoon blew away those dark clouds, but the weather report says it’s going to rain in 12 hours.
Text 2
W: Aren’t you afraid of getting sick It’s cold out there.
M: No way. This material is stronger than it looks and it’s quite warm.
W: OK, but I worry about you. Make sure to tell me if you’re getting cold.
Text 3
W: I’m so looking forward to going on holiday and taking photos, but I need to get a new passport first.
M: It’s very easy. There is an online form that you can fill out and then upload your own photograph.
Text 4
W: How was your appointment, dear
M: Well, unfortunately, the doctor thinks I need to start wearing glasses.
W: That’s no surprise. You hold the newspaper right up to your face when you read it. I’ve been saying that you need glasses for years!
Text 5
W: George, it’s boring to stay at home. Why don’t we play basketball outside
M: I’d like to, but it’s too cold today. Look, it’s snowing! It’s all white. Do you like snow I think we can make a snowman now.
W: Let’s go!
Text 6
W: The department store has reduced all its prices by forty percent during the sale. Don’t you think it’s time to replace our sofa We’ve had it for a long time!
M: Do you think so I think it’s comfortable enough. What we really need is a proper lamp to go on the table next to the sofa. It’s impossible to sit and read there at the moment.
W: Let’s move one of the lamps down from the bedroom then. The blue one would look good on that table.
M: You’re right.
Text 7
W: The sharing economy is really convenient for me.
M: Oh, really
W: Yes, I guess I can’t live without it. I ride a shared bike to work every day. And when my mobile phone is dead, I’d like to use the shared charger. Sometimes when it rains while I don’t have an umbrella, I would rent a shared umbrella.
M: Speaking of that, I remember that last weekend I was outside when it rained hard suddenly. So I used a shared umbrella. I held the umbrella for only ten minutes and then it was broken. I didn’t know what happened.
W: Oh, you poor thing. Maybe you didn’t do it in the right way. Let me teach you.
Text 8
M: Hi, Fiona! I heard that you got a job in the Good-luck Company. Is that so
W: Yes, Mike. It is a part-time job, just answering the phone and greeting visitors.
M: Is it interesting
W: Yeah, actually it is a good learning experience for me.
M: So what have you learned
W: My communication skills have improved. You know, I meet a lot of different people every day.
M: Do you like the boss here
W: Well, my boss is really nice and open-minded. My other colleagues are very friendly.
M: Good for you!
W: Yeah, but sometimes I feel stressed. You know, it is hard to balance study and work at the same time.
M: Come on! You’ve got lots of experience. That’s important.
W: Right. Well, I’m afraid I have to go now. I’ll be late.
M: Take care! Bye.
Text 9
W: Our guest today is Chef Michael Wilson. Thanks again for joining us, Mr. Wilson.
M: Oh, it’s my pleasure. And please call me Mike.
W: OK, Mike, you’ve been cooking since you were a child, and you’ve been a professional chef for over twenty years. What is it about cooking that you love so much
M: It’s the best way for people to communicate, in my opinion. You don’t need language. You don’t have to have anything in common. It’s easy to make new friends when you share a meal together.
W: So, what are some of the differences in the food of different countries
M: Well, in the West, people eat a lot of bread, while in Asia, rice and noodles are more common. Beef is very common in countries like the United States, but it’s not as popular in Northern Europe.
W: What do you think is the most important factor in cooking
M: I think that fresh local foods are the most important part of any type of cooking.
Text 10
M: Hi, Cathy, this is Pitt. I heard that during the Chinese Spring Festival holiday you won’t go back to your hometown in the States and will go to Germany for some traveling and then come back to China. I’m leaving you this voice message to invite you to come to our family’s Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner tomorrow. My mother and I will start making dumplings around 4 p. m and we’ll probably start having dinner at 6 p. m. If you’re interested in making dumplings, feel free to join us at 4 p. m. I’m afraid there will be very few buses or taxis running tomorrow afternoon. My father is happy to pick you up from your place. Just send me your address and tell me when you can come. After dinner, we will watch some Spring Festival shows on TV. The most interesting show starts at around 8 p. m. We usually stay up very late, so don’t worry about staying too long. Just let me know when you want to go back to your place. Looking forward to your earliest reply.
