Micro blogs like Weibo are nothing new for the young Chinese. A newspaper in Chengdu did a survey last

Early rising is helpful in more than one way. First, it helps us to have good health. We all need fresh air. It makes
our health better to take morning exercises. The air is never so fresh as early in the morning. Early rising helps us
in our studies. In the morning we learn more quickly and find it easy to learn something by heart. Early rising
makes people able to plan the work for the day. We can’t work well without a good plan. Just as the plan for the
year should be made in spring, the plan for a day should be made in the morning. Early rising gives us enough
time to get ready for our work, such as to wash our hands and eat our breakfast. So the popular saying says, “Early
to bed and early to rise make a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”

Utopia is a perfect place. It is a place without war, hunger, poverty, or crime. All of the people are equal in
Utopia, and the laws are all fair.
Utopia is not a new place. Plato, the ancient Greek philosopher, described a perfect society in his famous
dialogue The Republic. In Plato’s Republic, every person had a Zplace in the society. In 1516, Sir Thomas More
wrote about an island in the Pacific Ocean where everything was perfect. He named the island “Utopia.” In 1872,
Samuel Butler wrote a novel about a perfect country.
Many people came to the New World to find Utopia. Rapp, a German farmer came to the United States in
1804 to start a Utopian community. In 1815, Rapp and his followers bought land for their community in
Harmony, and they made the things they needed with machines. In 1824, they sold the community to Owen, who
started the Utopian community of New Harmony there. In New Harmony, everything belonged to everyone and
men and women were equal, but New Harmony lasted only two years. Then Francis Wright began Nashoba, a
community where white people and black people could live and work together. Nashoba lasted from 1825 to
1830. A group of intellectuals founded Brook Farm, a Utopian farming community, in 1841. However, they did
not have many farming skills, so the farm closed in 1847.
Utopia is a perfect place. There is no money in Utopia because people do not need money. They do not have
personal possessions because everything belongs to everyone, but it is not a real place. Most “real” Utopias last
only a short time. This is because everyone wants to live in Utopia, but no one knows how to make it work. As a
result, when we say something is “Utopian” today, we mean that it is a good idea, but it is not realistic.
32.According to the passage, ________ was the turst person to call a place “Utopia”.
A.Plato B.Thomas More C.Samuel Butler D.Rapp
33.The underlined word “possessions” means ________ .
A.pressure B.trouble C.wealth D.knowledge

A.All the triers found that Utopia also had disadvantages.
B.People spent a lot of money on Utopian communities.
C.Utopian communities made these triers very satisfied
D.None of the tryouts of Utopian communities succeeded.
35.Which of the following persons is “Utopian”
A.Amy, a middle school student who likes to write novels about a perfect world.

If you miss out a meal, do you ever notice yourself starting to get angry or annoyed very easily Well, this is
often known as being “hangry” or being angry because you are very hungry.
It’s not just a funny phrase, but is scientifically true! Scientists found this feeling of anger usually comes
from having low glucose (葡萄糖) levels in the blood. Glucose is put into the body after you eat.
The brain also needs this to work correctly. When the body is low in glucose, the brain sends hormones (激
素) to increase the amount of glucose in the body. Brenda Bustillos, a dietitian at Texas A&M University, the
US, says, “Hunger leads to high stress hormones, which make it hard to manage our feelings.”
Amanda Salis, PhD, University of Sydney, says that we may also be able to thank our ancestors (祖先) for
our “hanger”. Salis says that long ago when there was not much food, people had to be aggressive to eat as much
as they could to get enough food to live. So even now when most people have enough food to eat, there is still that

Micro blogs like Weibo are nothing new for the young Chinese. A newspaper in Chengdu did a survey last
month. It found that 90 percent of junior high school students use micro blogs.
They give students an outlet (出口) for emotion. “I use micro blogs to record my life. I let everyone ‘see’ my
feelings and complaints (抱怨),” said Liu Fangyue, 14, from Xiamen No. 1 Middle School. They have fun with
classmates even after school. “I would send a message to praise someone who came first in the exam,” said Liu.
Teachers also join in the fun. “When I sit down to talk to my students, they may not tell me their real
thoughts,” said Lu Dongping at Nanning No. 2 Middle School. “But on micro blogs, they are more relaxed. They
even make fun of me.”
You would be wrong if you think micro blogs are all about fun. Zhong Yun from Xiamen Haicang
Experimental School sees it as a tool (工具) to learn English. The 13-year-old girl follows foreign stars such as
Avril Lavigne and Justin Bieber.
“In order to understand their English posts, I have to check the dictionary and learn many new words,” said
Zhong.
“Micro blogs widen students’ perspectives (观点 ), but there are rules to follow,” said Shi Zhongying, a
professor from Beijing Normal University. He shares some of them with micro bloggers.
“Manage your time, and don’t let micro-blogging affect your studies and health,” said Shi. “Don’t give out
your name, family address or phone number on micro blogs. You should also respect (尊重 ) truth and other

33.The underlined word “possessions” means ________ .

A.All the triers found that Utopia also had disadvantages.

C.Utopian communities made these triers very satisfied
D.None of the tryouts of Utopian communities succeeded.
35.Which of the following persons is “Utopian”
A.Amy, a middle school student who likes to write novels about a perfect world.
B.Mia, who wants to have a bright future but doesn't know how to go for it.
C.Tim, who dreams to be a presenter and makes his effort to get a job in CCTV.
D.Bush, a teenager who studies hard to realize his dream of becoming an engineer.
