Teaching background analysis Teaching materials analysis This lesson is from Unit 9 of PEP English Go for it, the second semester of Grade Seven. The topic of this unit is about physical appearance. Students will learn to describe people’s looks. Section A (1a-2c) is the listening and speaking part of this unit. The target language of this class is the basis of learning other content of this unit, so it’s very important for students to master this lesson well.
Students analysis In the process of learning, students will need to use What-questions, alternative questions and some certain adjectives to describe people’s looks. Students of Grade Seven have learned a lot pf adjectives, so it won’t be a very big challenge for them to master this unit. And also, the topic of this lesson is so related to their daily life, that they will be very much interested in this it.
Teaching objectives Knowledge and skill objects: ①Students will be able to use the adjectives describing people’s appearance.. ②Students can use the alternative questions. Process and method objects: Students can use the expressions to describe the weather fluently. Emotion, attitude and value objects: ①It’s not polite to judge people’s appearance. So some words shouldn’t be used to describe people’s appearance, for example: It’s OK to say a person is heavy, but never use fat to describe anyone. ②Appearance is not everything, everyone is unique.

Play a video of Taylor Swift and ask students about her. Body shape: ①Show pictures of different people, ask students to compare them. ②Present the words describing appearance. ③Help students to describe the people in the pictures using sentences: He/ She is ( of ) ... Hairstyle: ①Show pictures of Taylor Swift in different hairstyles, ask students to compare each picture. ②Present the words describing hairstyles. ③Help students to describe the people in the pictures using sentences: He/ She has...hair. Play the audio and help students finish 1a and 1b. Pair-work: Ask students to work in pairs, ask and answer what their friends look like. Play the audio, help students finish 2a and 2b. Guessing game: Ask students to think of one classmate or teacher. And let others guess who the person is by asking Yes/ No questions or alternative questions. Help students to sum up what they’ve learned from this class. Draw a nice picture of anyone you like. (favorite actor, scientist, cartoon character...etc.) Describe what he or she looks like. Greet the teacher. Enjoy the video and say your impression of Taylor Swift. Look at the pictures and find the differences. Listen carefully and master the words describing the body shape. Practice describing people’s body shape using the sentence pare the pictures. Learn the adjectives describing people’s hair. Practice describing people’s hair using the sentence patterns. Work on 1 a and 1b. Work in pairs and make the conversation. Listen to the audio carefully and work on 2a and 2b. Use Yes/ No questions and alternative questions to ask questions. Enjoy the game and try to find out the answer. Review the knowledge, try to sum up what they have learned withe the teacher’s help. Think of a certain someone. Draw a picture of him/ her.
