Version 1
With his eyes fixed on Peter’s pocket, he wondered what Peter would do. Watching Shirley’s smile fading away, Peter frowned. After a while, he seemed to make up his mind. He took out all the shells from his pocket, giving them to the shopkeeper, who took them and started to count as if he had been counting the money. Then he looked at Peter. Peter asked him, “Is it enough now ” The shopkeeper replied, “These are more than the cost.” Saying so, he kept only two shells and returned the remaining and the money. Peter put those shells back into his pocket very happily, leaving with Shirley holding the doll tightly.
Seeing Peter leaving happily with his sister holding the doll tightly, an assistant in that shop got surprised. He asked the shopkeeper, “Sir! You only charge them for 2 shells !” The shopkeeper said with a smile, “For us these are shells, but for the boy they are treasures. His love for his sister is the most precious.” Watching the lovely kids until they were out of sight, he continued, “When he grows up, he will remember he purchased a doll for his sister with the shells from a shopkeeper. He will cherish love and warmth in life--cherish every little shining sea shell in his heart.”(196词)
Version 2
With his eyes fixed on Peter’s pocket, he wondered what Peter would do. Hesitantly taking out the treasured sea shells in his pockets, Peter asked in a low voice, “Sir, can these help cover the cost ” Watching the 5-year- old carefully lay down all his shining shells on the counter, the man was somewhat touched, but he just pretended to be counting the shells seriously, “Let me see, one, two…Ok. The shells are just enough. You can take the doll and save the money”. Hearing this, Peter felt truly amazed and thanked the shopkeeper, who actually wanted to thank the two little kids, especially when he saw a big smile quickly spread over the little girl’s innocent face. They said goodbye and left happily with the doll.
Seeing Peter leaving happily with his sister holding the doll tightly, an assistant in that shop got surprised. Since his boss had been in such a low mood recently that he seldom wore any smile and talked much. When the shopkeeper turned around and noticed the assistant’s surprised look, he said smilingly, “lovely kids, aren’t they When I see the little boy is willing to take all he has to buy a doll for his lovely sister, it really warms my heart.” The assistant replied thoughtfully, “When he grows up, he will remember he purchased a doll for his sister with the shells from a shopkeeper,
which will surely warm his heart, too.”(209词)

My husband made a little two-story house that mirrored our own in color and design for our Little Free Library, while I carefully selected books from our shelves. The idea struck us immediately—instead of loading boxes into the car for yet another used book sale, we could simply walk them to the roadside.
Fifteen or so years later, it’s safe to say that thousands of books, as well as the occasional DVDs, CDs and jigsaw puzzles have been shared through our little library. Located on a busy street just a few blocks from a subway station, our little library sees dozens, perhaps hundreds, of passers-by each day.
Many of those who use our library do not hesitate to share their love of this neighborhood resource. One gentleman regularly stops by to pick up books for a nearby retirement home. At other times, we have received cards and gifts, including chocolates and even a personalized sketch (素描) from a local artist.
Like the people who use our library, the books that come and go reflect the broad diversity of our city. Arabic, French and Russian books are the large part among the main English-language books. I have even collected favorite books of mine in languages I don’t understand, simply for the joy of adding another edition to my collection. Surprisingly, our library hasn’t solved our book storage problem-if anything, we now have more books than ever before.
I have heard some complaints that Little Free Libraries do not always serve the purpose of building community and may compete with our public libraries and independent bookstores. This has not been our experience. We continue to buy more books than we need and we are very loyal users of the public system. Our Little Free Library has increased our love of reading and has connected us to a community of book lovers in the heart of our busy neighborhood.
24. Why did the author and her husband build the Little Free Library at first
A. To prepare for used book sales. B. To make friends with book lovers.
C. To deal with their unwanted books. D. To make use of community resources.
25. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. People’s care for the elderly.
B. The friendship between library users.
C. People’s love for the Little Free Library.
D. The exploration of the community resources.
26. What does the Little Free Library reflect about the neighborhood
A. Its cultural diversity. B. Its storage problems.
C. Readers’ preferences. D. People’s reading habits.
27. How has the Little Free Library impacted the community
A. It has strengthened neighborhood connections.
B. It has become a meeting place for local artists.
C. It has weakened public libraries to some degree.
D. It has promoted the rise of independent bookstores.

BEIJING—Wang Yaping, a taikonaut onboard China’s space station core module (舱), offered people on Earth a zero-gravity musical performance on Tuesday evening to celebrate the Lantern Festival. The space show was shared via a video released at an annual TV gala (晚会) for the festival celebration. In the video, Wang was seen floating in the space module while playing a guzheng, or Chinese zither. She played a part of the popular Chinese folk song “Jasmine Flower” (茉莉花).
The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar. People usually hang colorful lanterns, play riddle games and express their wishes and hopes for the future.
The members, who traveled to the space station core module on the Shenzhou-13 mission, kept some festive traditions alive as they continued to rotate around the Earth. Zhai Zhigang wrote riddles on red paper with a brush pen. He displayed the calligraphy together with taikonaut Ye Guangfu and sent festival greetings to the audience. They also sent wishes to athletes at the Beijing Winter Olympics: “We hope that you all achieve success, gain friendship and harvest your best Olympic experience.”
The video of the space performance was received with much enthusiasm after it was shared on social media platforms. It drew nearly 2 million clicks in one hour after several national media outlets (机构) posted it on the Chinese micro-blogging site Sina Weibo. The Weibo account (账号) of Zhurong, China’s first rover (漫游车) on Mars, reposted the video, commenting, “The music was so beautiful, and it made me homesick, too.”
The Lantern Festival also marks the last day of the lunar New Year celebration. Though far from home, the festive atmosphere in space is the same. The China Manned Space Agency released a video on social media platforms on Tuesday, showing that the taikonauts had decorated the orbiting core module with red lanterns and paper-cutting decorations. Wearing new clothes, the trio (三人小组) enjoyed the traditions of eating dumplings and posting spring couplets on walls. During the Chinese New Year holiday, they were also spotted watching the Winter Olympics and doing workouts in orbit.

D. By watching a video posted online by Wang Yaping herself.

Stories of immigrants attract me a lot, especially the life stories of Italians who have come to America since the 1700s. In each of these stories I see elements of my own story, that of leaving my birthplace and family and creating a new life in a different culture and in a different language.
The child of Italian immigrants and an award-winning scholar of Italian literature, in the book My Two Italies, Joseph Luzzi struggled to create or find his own identity from an early age. Even more problematic for him was “which” Italy to “choose,” the one he received from his family, poor and linked to old traditions and customs he finds rude and somewhat cruel, or the one he finds in literature and art books that show him a country with a modern literary culture.
The choice becomes even sadder as in his professional life he becomes a scholar of Italian literature and culture. He describes experiences of his youth that show the clash between the first and the second generation immigrants that are both funny and tragicomic (悲喜剧式的). These experiences show the daily customs his parents brought from their hometown that are opposite to Joseph’s desire to “fit in” the American culture. Joseph’s visits to Italy as a student and then as a scholar deepen the divide between his two Italies and strengthen his quest for identity.
The author’s personal changes are full of quotes and comments on the cultural and political landscape of Italy. I find that his understandings on contemporary (当代的) Italian cultural and political events are particularly interesting. In this book, Joseph touches or comments in depth about several issues about Italian life, such as the relationship between dialects and the official “Italian” language, and the Southern “question” or the uneasy communication between Northern and Southern Italians.
I enjoyed reading this book. It is personal, moving, educational and entertainment. I hope you will enjoy it too!
Why is the author interested in stories of immigrants
He left his birthplace to go to America. B. He was a child of Italian immigrants.
C. He lived in America as an immigrant. D. He likes to learn the Italian language.
33. Which of the following is more difficult for Joseph to deal with
A. Seeking out the true Italian within himself.
B. Receiving traditions and customs from his family.
C. Bridging the gap between the rude and modern culture.
D. Finding the country with a modern literacy culture.
34. What does the underlined word “clash” mean in paragraph 3
A. Collection. B. Judge. C. Difference. D. Fight.
35. What can we learn from Joseph’s life
A. He developed the desire of fitting in American culture after his first visit to Italy.
B. Deep understanding of Italian culture and politics helped him settle inner changes.
C. Joseph’s parents hardly required him to receive traditional Italian culture and customs.
D. Issues about Italian life had a positive impact on the relation within his family.

第二节:读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Peter, a 5-year-old boy, showed such great interest in sea shells that he would rush to pick them up with his 3-year-old sister, Shirley. They screamed out their joy as Peter collected his treasure into his pockets. For Peter, sea shells lay shinning on the peaceful beach, waiting for him, just like stars twinkling (闪烁) in the sky. As waves touched them, they seemed to be flowers blooming (绽放) in gentle wind.
One day, Peter was wandering through market with Shirley, with some shells in his pocket. Suddenly Peter found his younger sister was lagging(落后)behind. He stopped and looked back, finding Shirley was standing in front of a toy shop and was staring at something with great interest.
The boy went back to her and asked, “What do you want ” Shirley pointed at the doll, wearing a smile on her innocent face. Peter held his younger sister’s tiny hand, walking into the shop. He tiptoed(踮起脚尖)to reach for the doll, and like a responsible elder brother, gave the precious doll to Shirley. Holding tightly the doll, the sister was very happy.
The shopkeeper was watching everything and getting amused to see the matured (成熟的) behaviour of the boy. Now the boy came to the counter and asked the shopkeeper, “How much does this doll cost, Sir ”
The shopkeeper was a cool man, who had suffered from something in his life. So he asked the boy with love and affection, “Well, what can you pay ” Peter reached into his clothes for money that was intended for these two little guys’ breakfast. Having counted the money, Peter put it carefully on the counter, asking again, “Sir, is it enough for my little sister’s doll ”
The amusing scene just in front of the shopkeeper eventually brought a smile on his face. Shaking his head slightly, he replied, “My boy, I am afraid it seems not to be enough.”
