科罗拉多大峡谷位于美国亚利桑那州(Arizona)西北部，科罗拉多高原西南部。大峡谷全长446千米，平均宽度16千米，最深处2133米，平均深度超过1500米，总面积为2724平方千米。
1919年，威尔逊总统将大峡谷地区辟为"大峡谷国家公园"(Grand Canyon National Park)。
大峡谷是科罗拉多河的杰作。这条河发源于科罗拉多州的落基山，洪流奔泻，经犹他州、亚利桑那州，由加利福尼亚州的加利福尼亚湾入海，全长2320千米。"科罗拉多"，在西班牙语中，意为"红河"，这是由于河中夹带大量泥沙，河水常显红色，故有此名，在大峡谷中，有75种哺乳动物、50种两栖和爬行动物、25种鱼类和超过300种的鸟类生存。整个国家公园是许多动物的乐园。
