Officials have uncovered the gold, silver and bronze medals that will be awarded at this summer’s Olympic games in Paris, and each one contains a unique souvenir: a fragment (碎片) of waste iron from the Eiffel Tower.
“It’s the opportunity for the athletes to bring back a piece of Paris with them,” Thierry Reboul, creative director of Paris 2024, told reporters last week. “The absolute symbol of Paris and France is the Eiffel Tower.”
The Eiffel Tower opened in 1889 and during the later repair work, some of the original iron was cut off and preserved over time. Now, some of those preserved metal fragments have found new homes.
Each new Olympic medal features a piece of Eiffel Tower iron — though the signature “Eiffel Tower brown” paint has been removed. These pieces have been shaped into hexagons (六边形), which is the “shape of France”. Besides, there are words “Paris 2024”, the Olympic rings and the Games logo, which looks like a flame or the face of a woman with a bob haircut.
How did they think of such an idea Joachim Roncin, head of design at the Paris Games organizing committee told the press, “We talked about the design many times and realized that there’s one symbol known across the world, which is the Eiffel Tower. We said to ourselves, ‘Hey, what if we approached the Eiffel Tower Operating Company to see if it’s possible to get a bit of the Eiffel Tower to integrate (融入) into the medal ’”
When the Eiffel Tower Operating Company agreed to volunteer pieces of original iron, “the dream became reality,” adds Roncin.
The medals, designed by the luxury Paris jewelry house Chaumet, make people think of the Eiffel Tower in several other ways. The pieces of iron are protected by what looks like special nails that hold the structure together, and the medals’ ribbons are decorated with patterns of the tower’s latticework structure.
The iron fragments are set in recycled silver, gold and bronze disks. Over 5,000 medals are being made.
28.What does Thierry mean by saying “bring back a piece of Paris”
A.Part of the athletes’ medal is from the symbol of Paris.
B.The athletes will buy souvenirs about Paris.
C.The athletes will take many photos of Paris.
D.The Eiffel Tower will be left in the athletes’ memory.
29.What is mainly talked about in paragraph 4

B.The design of the Eiffel Tower iron fragment on the medal.
C.The shape and material of the Olympic medal.
D.The processing technique of the Eiffel Tower iron pieces.
30.How did the designers get the idea of adding the waste iron
A.By asking for the public. B.Through their discussion.
C.By studying the Eiffel Tower. D.From a strange dream.
31.What can we infer about the new Olympic medals
A.They have six sides. B.They are light.

A shadowy figure sits alone in a room, his face dimly lit by a computer screen. With a smile, he types in a series of computer commands, and in the blink of an eye, someone’s bank account is drained to zero.
In today’s digital age, cyberattacks like this happen thousands of times per day. Hackers can steal money, information, or completely take control of a machine from anywhere in the world. However, not all hackers are villains.
Some hackers, called white hat or ethical hackers, are individuals who make good use of their hacking skills to find safety vulnerabilities (漏洞) in hardware, software and networks. Their job is important in preventing cyberattacks and safeguarding sensitive information. The term “white hat” originated from old cowboy movies, where heroes wore white hats and villains wore black ones. Like the heroes in cowboy movies, white
hats seek to stop the bad guys and save the day.
White hat hackers only seek vulnerabilities legally, often working on open-source software or with official access to systems. Once these weak spots are found, companies or individuals can take steps to prevent serious breaches and losses. White hat hackers use a variety of different techniques to keep the internet safe. Penetration testing, for example, allows them to imitate cyberattacks and uncover system weaknesses. Safety scanning tools allow white hats to find holes in a network’s security systems. Simulating denial-of-service attacks (DoS attacks) helps companies prepare for attacks against their websites.
Many of the world’s top white hat hackers began their journeys on the wrong side of the law. A typical example is Kevin Mitnick. This notorious hacker once held the title of “most wanted hacker” in the U. S. due to his cybercriminal activities in 1995. However, after being caught and spending five years in prison, his life took a remarkable turn. Mitnick decided to use his hacking skills for positive purposes, finally building his own cybersafety consulting company.
If you long to be a white hat hacker, start by building a strong foundation in computer and network fundamentals. Good luck, computer cowboy!
32.What does the underlined word “villains” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.victims. B.heroes. C.evil-doers. D.attackers.
33.What can we learn about white hat hackers
A.They find vulnerabilities for personal gain without doing harm.
B.They do everything to safeguard people’s information.
C.They wear white hats in cowboy movies.
D.They legally use their professional skills to help people.
34.People skilled in computer and network can’t be top white hat hackers unless
______.
A.they take measures to stop serious losses
B.they follow the law
C.they find security weak points
D.they build their own cybersafety consulting companies
35.What is the purpose of the text
A.To introduce defenders of the digital world.
B.To teach us how to stay safe online.
C.To warn us of the dangers of cyberattacks.
D.To tell us how to be top white hackers.
第二节.根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
What Is a Boy
Between the innocence of babyhood and the seriousness of manhood we find a delightful creature called a “boy”. 36 They all believe that the pleasure of life is to enjoy every second of every minute of every hour of every day and to fill the air with noise until the adult males pack them off to bed at night.
37 When you want him to make a good impression, his brain turns to jelly, or else he becomes a wild creature destroying the world and himself with it.
38 He has the stomach of a horse, the digestion of stones and sand, the energy of an atomic bomb, the curiosity of a cat, the imagination of a superman, the shyness of a sweet girl, the brave nature of a bull, the violence of a firecracker, but when you ask him to make something, he has five thumbs (拇指) on each hand.
He likes ice cream, knives, saws, Christmas, comic books, woods, water (in its natural habitat). 39 He is not much for Sunday schools, company, schools, books without pictures, music lessons, neckties, barbers, girls, overcoats, adults, or bedtime.
40 Nobody else gets so much fun out of trees, dogs and breezes. Nobody else can put into one pocket a rusty knife, a half eaten apple, a three-feet rope, six cents and some unknown things. A boy is a magical creature — he is your headache but when you come home at night with only broken pieces of your hopes and dreams, he can mend them like new with two magic words, “Hi, Dad!”
A.Boys came in different sizes, weights, and colors, but all boys have the same belief.
B.In fact a boy is a mixture.
C.Nobody else is so early to rise, or so late to supper.
D.Boys will feel it uncomfortable if they are controlled too strictly.
E.Girls are more active and intelligent than boys sometimes.
F.He also has a preference for large animals, Dad, trains, Saturday mornings, and fire engines.
G.When you are busy, a boy is a trouble-maker and a noise.

Dear Editor,
I'm Li Hua, a high school student. Recently a conflict occurred between my deskmate and me. I 'm writing to ask you for help.
Last Thursday, our school held a sports meeting. My deskmate and I both participated in the 100-meter race. I accidentally knocked him over when racing towards the finish line, leaving his right leg injured. I sincerely apologized to him, but he wouldn’t forgive me. What's worse, since then, he has been completely ignoring me, which really makes me upset. With this always in my mind, I can't concentrate on the study. I'm at a total loss what to do. I'd appreciate it if you could help me out of the trouble.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
