Once upon a time, a king dressed up and went to a local village.He placed a large stone in the middle of the main road and hid gold coins under the stone.Then he hid behind a huge tree and watched.

本句是while引导的时间状语从句,表示从句正在进行某动作时,主句动作同时进行,必须用延续性动词。
while的用法
连词,意为“当……的时候”,引导时间状语从句,表示正在进行某一动作时,发生了另一动作。while后的动作往往是延续性的动作,多用进行时态表达。

易混点 while和when
共同点 都引导时间状语从句,意为“当……的时候”
不同点 while只指一段时间。while从句中的动词必须是延续性动词,而且多用进行时态。while 强调主句的动作发生在从句动作发生的过程中或主从句两个动作同时发生 When the teacher came in, we were talking.=While we were talking, the teacher came in. 我们正在谈话的时候,老师走了进来。
when既指时间点,也可指一段时间。when引导的时间状语从句中的动词可以是终止性动词,也可以是延续性动词。从句的时态一般是一般现在时或一般过去时
